This was our first visit to rural Italy and we were as poorly prepared as always with our Italian just about stretching to good day and yes we set of into this very unspoiled part of Italy. We are pretty good on maps and a satnav nut we failed to find Masseria Serio but a phone call to Annamaria brought her post haste to lead us the few kilometres we were short of getting the the farm.
The old white washed buildings took our breath away, Annamaria showed us into the smallest apartment which was perfectly adequate for us. It had tiled floors and white walls with very high ceilings on both bedroom and living area. Cooking facilities consisted of a four burner hob, fridge freezer and kitchen sink housed in a working surface about 3m long. There seemed to be plenty of crockery etc. for far more than just the two of us - I think it could have slept 5 in the two rooms. The toilet/shower was bijou with the shower over the toilet in a mini wet room. To speed our ablutions each morning I walked across to the showers below the pool. There was limitless hot water and good pressure for the showers.
I did find the water hard compared to our wonderful Welsh water and we found it better to use bottled water for our morning cuppa even though the water was fine to drink.
We only used to cooking facilities to breakfast or lunch, always great bread, fruit and local cheeses/meats washed down with the Grassi family wine or other ocal wines as well as the farm's own olive oil.
Being September we revelled in picking fresh figs and in the prepared prickly pear fruit delivered regularly by Mr Grassi Annamaria's father. There were also lemon, peach and other fruit trees around the apartment.
The pool was beautiful and we had unique use for a while as we were the only people there for a few days but there was loads of space and beds should all three apartments be occupied.
Please be aware that you are in rural Italy and wifi will not be up to city/urban UK speeds. Initially we struggled but Annamaria brought a booster which made things adequate, she asked us not to stream however, which we complied with, I believe their Internet runs off the 3G system so her request was reasonable.
We ate out in Locorotonda, about 5k away and were astounded by the quality and value. Do beware however that some establishments serve food suitable for local tastes and we struggled twice with cuts of meat which we considered poor but were obviously well received locally.
This is probably the longest review I've written, probably as Masseria Serio was a special place, a working farm (although the family lived about 2k away) in a lovely rural area. Each day the grandfather would arrive to potter around while the men of the family tended the animals. Our buon giornos were supplemented by sign language and laughter. Annamaria nad her family gave us a wonderful welcome and if you want to see the real Puglia this place must be as good as anywhere.

An amazing and peaceful place to enjoy the nature and relax by the pool. Very hospitable owners, they made our stay very pleasant. This small Trulli complex is located in the middle of the nature, we could observe olive trees and animals walking not far from the pool area. If you are looking for peacefulness this place is for you. We will certainly come back.
