Fukuzanso is an old style ryokan or minshuku (not sure which would be more accurate) in the centre of Tono. It is well located as you can walk from the station in about 10 minutes.

It feels a bit like going back in time. I doubt if much has changed in the past 30 or so years and it could do with a bit of an update, like maybe some sinks in rooms and private toilets, new bathrooms and some fresh paint. It wasn't bad, just tired.

All bathroom facilities are communal and you need to trek down the hall and stairs to brush you teeth etc and to take a bath. Something strange is that it seems there are long-term guests who keep their toiletries, hairbrushes etc in the bathrooms. I didn't like that and would have preferred the bathrooms be kept clear of other people's personal items. Bathrooms were communal with one for each sex. The men's bathroom was a lot nicer with a bath made to resemble an onsen with rocks etc. The women's bath was a normal domestic one and was...
