First of all, if you're a tourist in Japan and you've made it all the way out to Tono, congratulations...you're a real adventurer. Not even many Japanese make it out this far. It is a quiet rural area, surrounded by mountains. We stayed here during a tsunami relief volunteer trip since the volunteer organization headquarters was located in town. This hotel is very country cozy, the front desk people are friendly and they serve you breakfast in the mornings which is pretty nice. We were here in March...very cold and snowing. Wish I could've done more things around here but we were only here for one day. The hotel is part of the Tono train station, but don't worry you barely here them and they only come by once every half hour or an hour...you won't notice them. More

This hotel is part of the train station in Tono, so is right in the middle of town. There aren't many accomodation options in Tono anyway so this is probably the best - definitely the easiest and most accesible for people who don't speak Japanese and are not familiar with the Japanese way of life since the other places are more traditional. The rooms are western style and are very big by Japanese standards (apart from the miniscule but very Japanese bathroom. We had a twin room which had two beds and two sofas with a coffee table. The hotel is quite new and everything is clean and in good condition. Despite being right at the station, the room was very quiet and we were not bothered by noise from trains (which don't run at night anyway). Having said that, our room was at the front looking out onto town. The rooms at the back looking onto the train tracks might be noisier.
