We have just returned from a fabulous stay at this hotel. From check in to check out it was fantastic.
The room was a great size with a sofa bed, we had a fridge, kettle and bath with shower over.
The room was clean and well maintained. The views from the room were amazing!
Breakfast was also a highlight.
We will certainly be back!

Decided to take a few days in Alicante and this hotel seemed so central to everything .
I read some of the reviews and nearly changed the hotel so glad I didn’t .
On arrival Juan Carlos was really helpful with local info on restaurants etc .
We had a superior sea view room 1901 a high floor no noise from lifts at all .
The rooms are not completely sound proof as alluded to in other reviews but we had quiet neighbours however you do hear some low level noise .
Beds were firm as I like and really comfortable had great sleeps.crisp white linen.

The bathroom was very modern recently refurbished good fluffy towels and aromatherapy type shampoo conditioner and body wash.
Breakfast was from 7:30 to a later 11-30 great for lazy starters like us !
Now for restaurants nearby
Lunch definitely do Lizzaron for tapas on street beside hotel front door sit down wait for bell to ring for fresh hot tapas.
Dinner for high end do el portal behind hotel expect 100 euro plus .
For budget but amazing quality do La braseria on Calle San Francisco beside hotel San Francisco it’s only 13 euro set menu and the food is absolutely amazing and freshly prepared it’s only 4 minutes walk from hotel .
Do the castle for stunning views only 2 euro on the lift up from the beach free into castle .
Do a day trip to Altea on the tram it’s only about 10 e return pleasant sea front tram journey most of the way .
Breakfast in hotel is fairly good could be warmer was only complaint.
Top tip definitely go for superior or above room on a higher floor less chance of elevators annoying you .
Had no problem with the slow lifts like others did hey I’m on holiday not hurrying to work !!

The way I would describe this hotel is “you get what you pay for” the rooms are fairly cheap so don’t expect luxury. The rooms are tired and very dated. We booked a superior room which had a tv and small fridge if you wanted to put drinks in there. No iron or tea/coffee machine, no water or mini bar etc… no extra pillows or anything like that although I’m sure if you asked at reception they would have obliged with anything you needed.

My 2 biggest issues with this hotel though, that everyone should be aware of.

1. Do not expect to get any sleep at all, ever! We were on the 9th floor and thanks to the “furniture moving olympics” which took place every night between 1am and 6am you will not get any sleep. I’m not sure if the staff clean the rooms or what during the night but my wife and I had to sleep with headphones in listening to music or podcast it was so bad.

2. The worst issue. - I’m not sure if there is a problem with the drains or the sewage but the smell was sometimes overpowering, it was raw sewage and the hallways and at some points our room stunk to high heavens! From reading other reviews here I see other guests have had similar issues.

The rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels etc… also we never had a problem with hot water or anything like that.
Over bath shower with a rain shower head.

For the price we paid, I’d say it is what it is. Last year we stayed at the far more superior Melia hotel not too far away but that was more expensive.

This hotel is in a fabulous position a few yards from the marina and the town hall and is ideally positioned for exploring the sea front and the town. Our "superior" room was spacious, clean and had a bathroom with shower and bath. We had a great balcony but sadly no tea/coffee making facilities . The bed was very comfortable (actually two singles pushed together) and we had a sofa and coffee table as well as a desk and office type chair. We were on the 14th floor with fantastic views of the marina and the castle. We booked on a half board basis and while the breakfast buffet was very good the dinner left something to be desired. The choice was poor, largely fish and pork and no vegetarian option. Unsurprisingly the restaurant was barely used which is a shame as it's on the 26th floor with spectacular views. While we were there a number of people came in, had a drink at the bar, took advantage of the views then left.
The staff were English speaking, friendly and helpful.
I'd stay there again but on a B & B basis only.

Thank you for this complete review, Photofanatic7! We are delighted of having been chosen and of having had the opportunity to share this TRYP experience with you. As you confirm, our location in the city is the most suitable to discover Alicante, next to the Old Town, in front of the promenade and on a short walking distance to the marina, museums, shops, bars and restaurants area. Our tea and coffee services are available on a Premium Room but you can contract this service in your Superior Room. If you need something in your next stay, you do not doubt contact with Serviexpress, available 24 hours 7 days a week. We agree with you and share your opinion about our Breakfast Buffet, with more than 70 references making a huge variety to start your day on the best way. Your comment about our restaurant CONVISTAS is very important for us to improve every day, we take note about this situation. If you could give to me more details about your meal in the restaurant, we will try solve it. Thank you so much for your nice comment about our team, they make an uniques experiences! I’m a HUGE fan of the Melia brand and I’m always really pleased with how clean, comfortable and stylish their rooms are. I wish I could say this hotel was no exception to that. But I can’t.

On first arrival, we were wowed by the location and the gorgeous lobby. Check in was fine but not super friendly.

After a late flight we were looking forward to seeing our room and getting a good night’s sleep.

Sadly, on entering our room, we were hit by the smell of drains/sewage. It was disgusting. We were super tired though, and the reason we were there is because I had a medical procedure booked in early the next morning, so we just decided to let a little fresh air in and go to bed.

Now, onto the beds! Melia beds are normally so so comfy but these were that hard (and we like a firm bed but not THIS firm!) that the next day we woke up feeling like we had done 12 rounds with Mike Tyson. We were stiff and aching all over.

Then to add insult to injury, after my medical procedure I needed to rest so I went back to bed and the noise was just ridiculous. I could hear everything the people in the next room were saying and our room was right next to the lifts so all I could hear were the lifts going up and down. The walls are just far too thin for any sort of privacy or comfort.

I complained about everything and all they did was spray air freshener in the room and give us a mattress topper (which helped slightly to be fair).

We only stayed for 2 nights but after checking out on the day of our departure, we needed a decent sleep that much that we actually paid to stay at a hostel down the road just to sleep for a few hours. The hostel (which I will also review at some point) was perfect and wayyyyy cleaner, more accommodating and comfier than the Gran Sol!

All in all I think I can safely say I would avoid this hotel like the plague!!

This hotel is in a perfect location, close to bars, restaurants, beach, shopping etc. The reception staff were extremely welcoming & helpful with really good English. Our room was on the 4th floor and could be quiet noisy at times. No English channels on the TV, so we used our tablet to watch movies. The room was clean but the beds were extremely uncomfortable, honestly like sleeping on a sheet of MDF. Rooms were cleaned everyday but we got woken by a cleaner at around 9am, who knocked 3 times & then let herself into our room.

I will say the aircon in the room was a god sent and worked really well, which I haven't seen mentioned in any reviews!

The rooftop bar had great views but the cocktails were like a syrup consistency & the menu wasn't appealing, so we went on the hunt for lunch elsewhere.

Overall its in a great location but wouldn't be pushed to come back.

Wonderful hotel with great views of the marina or downtown. I highly recommend this hotel. It represented great value for money with two rooms in each suite with plenty of room to spread out or ideal for families travelling with children. The breakfast buffet was extensive and represents great value for money if you add it at the time of booking.

We decided to spend Christmas in Alicante this year and carefully chose our accommodation and the Tryp Alicante Gran Sol Hotel did not disappoint. We chose a premium room with incredible views of the sea, harbour and castle. The room was spacious and well equipped....the iron and ironing board is so simple but so great!

We were on the 21st floor and on the 26th they the CONVISTAS Bar what a place to enjoy a lovely drink with friends! Even a nighttime the lights give a very good view.

Price wise I think we git a very good deal. It is ideally located with many bars and restaurants around it it...some very good restaurants less than 20 minutes walk away

We shall certainly be booking again and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

First off the location of this hotel could not be better really, close to all local restaurants, marina, beach. The staff were all very kind and helpful, some with limited English but my Spanish is terrible too so no issues there. We booked a superior double room which is definitely worth it as these rooms are on the corner so you get a double aspect view. Wasn't happy that the 'double' bed was actually two singles pushed together, easily pushed apart and I like to cuddle before sleeping. The room had a double sofa bed if required. Only about 6 regular hangers and 3-4 trouser hangers in the wardrobe so if you are staying a while it makes it difficult to hang everything but the room had storage shelves and a small fridge. You need to request and iron/board. Hairdryer in bathroom was really good, not a lot of counter space to lay you your toiletries, especially if you are more than two people.
No slip mat in the bath/shower, need to request. Be sure to ask if they have walk in showers available if you don't want to have to set into a bath to have a shower.
Breakfast is quite good, selection of contintental cheeses/meats/yoghurts/fruits etc and cooked breakfast plus pastries. There are also lots of restaurants within two mins walk that also serve breakfast so don't need to pay for breakfast at the hotel if you don't want to. If you want to book the hotel restaurant make sure you book at least a week in advance. It has the most amazing views and is definitely worth it. Sunbeds at the local beach fill up quickly and are 27euros per day for two sunbeds and a parasol. We saved money by buying a parasol from a local shop for about 17euros. We found the middle section of the beach better, the sea closest to the town often got sea grass and other stuff lining the water's edge.
The local shop near the hotel (turn right immediately as you exit and it is just on the corner within a minute) really nice Chinese owner and stocked everything you could need.
Tarbaca Island is lovely, we took a speedboat and went snorkelling off shore, swam ashore to look around and then back again.
We visited the castle, I would recommend visiting first or last thing because although you take a lift to a certain point, there is some uphill walking to do so wear sensible shoes and bring water because we found it extremely hot.
The one big complaint I had was nothing to do with the hotel, there was lots of roadworks going on around the hotel, up and down the promenade which spoilt the aesthetics, why the mayor thought it was good to start this going into high season only he/she will understand. They are working fast, but will be into August before completed I am sure.
One thing I would do differently next time is hire a car for 2/3 days to visit more areas, although the public transport is really good.

Booking half board does not entitle you to fully enjoy the restaurant's normal menu. You are given a limited menu from which to choose one of three pared down starters, main and dessert. To eat the restaurant's normal cuisine, you are required to pay the listed ala care prices or pay an additional €25 per person. There is no credit given for your "half board".

Dear Mike0472, First of all, we would like to thank you for choosing us on your stay in Alicante and for taking the time to transmitting us your comments about the recent stay in our establishment; knowing all details about our guest experiences gives us the chance to improve on our day-to-day service. Let me inform you that the half board service based in a menu served in our CONVISTAS restaurant includes 1 starter, 1 main and 1 dessert that you choose previously between 3 differents meals and all the proposals change every day. In addition, as we offered you as per every half board guest, you can pay additional an extra service with a cost 25€ per person if you decide to upgrade your experience and change your service to "a la carte service", being as we said this payment optional. As you know , our GUEX Experience staff and myself talked with you with the aim to give you the closest proposal to your expectations, also the chef and the maître of CONVISTAS offer you a customized menu with your own preferences without any extra charge for be your experience the more pleasant possible. But finally you decided to upgrade the half board to the service à la carte with its extra cost. As long as we are completely in love to our CONVISTAS bar and rooftop restaurant with its stunning views in 26th floor in our hotel and we offer a different half board service excluding the typical buffet, we think that is a good opportunity for all our passionate travellers to have the chance to enjoy their dinner service in this unusual place, but do not doubt that we take your comments with its sume importance to increase your experiences during your stays. We hope you will keep continuing trust in our more than 350 Melia International Hotels around the world. Kind regards, Miryam Aliaga Guest Experience Hotel TRYP Alicante Gran Sol

Hi yes there is a kettle provided. I am assuming tea and coffee too, however I always take the instant coffee sachets so I’m not sure if they provided any. I am not sure about beach towels but there were plenty of towels in the room so you could use one from there. Do go to the roof top bar, lovely views. Enjoy your stay :)

Check on their website. The premium ones don't, but the superior rooms with views (which we always choose) have a wrap round balcony- door between the tv and the sofa on the pic on their website. If you have sea view room booked, you will be on a higher floor so you get the views.
