We spent three nights at the Ibis Budget Alicante, which is located right beside the Ibis Alicante. You check in at the Ibis Alicante and then the "Budget" is right across the parking lot. The Ibis Budget is considerably cheaper, but I am not sure if the Ibis Alicante is worth the extra. Certainly, if you are looking for a place to rest your head for a few days, having this cheaper option will suffice. We had free parking, wifi was included, the room is small, but clean. The beds are comfortable and the washroom allows you to do what you need to do. I believe that there was also a television in the room, needed or otherwise.
Check in at the main reception went smoothly and it is here that there is a small restaurant, that serves a nice menu, akin to what you would find in a cafe. It was also here, that for a reasonable cost, you could have a buffet style breakfast.
The hotel is ideally located, just off N-322, and is basically, only about a five minute drive from the city centre. We drove this for several days and parking was never problem, once we were at our destination.
We were visiting Alicante in late April, the weather was very mild, bordering on hot. No surprise really, as Alicante is one the sunniest, warmest daytime winter temperature cities on Mainland Europe. Alicante is a very beautiful city, filled with many historical buildings, churches, museums, etc. The most obvious feature, being, the Castillo de Santa Barbara. This 9th century fortress sits on top of Mount Benacantil, which rises 166 metres above the old town. You can get to the top either by accessing a rather steep pathway or you can take the lift, which is installed inside the mountain. The cost is, I believe, 2.70 Euro, over 65, gratis. There is no admission cost to the Castello. Once at the top, you can take a nominally priced guided tour or just wander on your own. There are refreshments and such available at the top. Check out their website for updates and opening hours. This is a must do, the views of the surrounding area is quite spectacular.
We spent one day at the main beach in the town, Playa del Postiguet. This lovely beach borders the famous promenade, Esplanada de Espana. This Palm tree lined walkway is paved with 6.5 million marble tiles set in a mesmerizing wavy pattern and runs from the Port of Alicante to Gran Via. There are shops and booths, restaurants, lining it and appears to be a perfect spot where people can gather to socialize.
There are many reasons to find, that make this area so enjoyable and, if all that is needed, is access to a home base, why not stay at the Ibis Budget Alicante or, if you wish, upgrade to the Ibis Alicante.

The Budget hotel was great value as usual, but the restaurant at the adjacent Ibis was understaffed and tables were not even set out. Food was not presented well; School dinner-ish and no table service. The one member of staff (at the bar) taking orders also had to deal with bar orders. Because the tables were grouped together there was not enough seating for diners. One at our table had to separate the tables for social distancing - there was no member of staff who showed any interest. Completed orders were shouted for from the bar area. Contrast this with Barcelona the night before. Why so different?

There is a big difference between the two buildings, Ibis budget and Ibis hotel.

The reception staff are great and really helpful.

Unfortunately we lasted two nights before changing to the main Ibis hotel ( other side of car park)

Pros of both:

Lovely staff
Good location ( no shops or anything around but near the airport and if you aren’t hiring, there is a bus stop to either city or airport outside)
Good little cafe on site
Main Ibis hotel is lovely (€20 euros difference a night)

Cons of Ibis budget:

Weed smell a lot on the 1st floor
Noise in corridors
I think they’re housing single people there on a long time basis ( not a problem but use rooms as homes and there’s a lot of noise)
Room was clean but not decorated nicely
Smell in doorways and landings

I would stay again, but not in the Budget hotel, only the main building

Good lord where do you start on this one. This was an enforced stay due to a missed flight for a family of 3 and I will go from start to finish. Taxi journey from airport is about €10 until the driver pushes a magic button that flashes up €15 which subsequently disappears.

Once outside the taxi we had to wait for the maximum security stockade gate to roll back as we entered the carpark and then the lobby. Lobby was well decorated in a cool contemporary feel with what looked like the cast of the "Hills have Eyes" populating the lobby. Having been given the key cards for the rooms we asceneded the elevator to Floor 2 where next door rooms 212 and 214 were ours.

Upon entering the rooms its became clear the only way to not see or notice the stains on the carpet was to become registered blind!! The TV had this amazing habit of switching on and off like the 80s thriller Poltergeist. This was funny to start until it happened at 3am!!

The walls are officially made of balsa wood and paper mache! The windows are pvc but with optional air gaps and the air conditioning is akin to being breathed on by asthmatic pensioner with an ice cube in their mouth, cooling but smelling of wee!

The initial noise we experienced and sadly had to explain was the amorous embraces of the couple across the hall ( I say couple but to be fair the noise was more like that of multiple partners giving their best efforts to please if you know what I mean ) I explained this to my daughter as possibly being tv noise of wildlife programmes in Spanish and not sure she believed me.

The noise of the hotel as a whole was ridiculous and every step in the corridors could be heard even after midnight and thankfully they dissipated when the delivery lorries next door arrived to bring in laundry. What a relief to not hear people's conversations and footsteps to the low hum of diesel engines and metal wracks being unloaded by what sounded like Spanish Pirates.

A sleepless night was followed by a sumptuous €5 a head breakfast with tongs provided for lifting croissants, pain au chocolate and toast that were at face height and directly in front of other breathing customers. Yay Covid.

Checkout was swift.....as we are good runners and once we got out of the stockade we raced to the airport 4hrs early rather than stay in Wormwood Scrubs.

Please please please stay elsewhere unless you want to explain live porn noises and love the low hum of diesel engines.

As a side note once home we had to get 2 tubes of cream for insect bites that we never had in 3 weeks I'm Spain and only got on the last night in the IBIS.

This hotel is not central, its near nothing, it has nothing, offers nothing and sadly cost €190 for what amounted to a homeless shelter. Sad that a chain hotel can offer so little.

PS my skin is still crawling after the stay.

The hotel is spot on especially for what you pay. I had a good night’s sleep on a relatively comfortable bed, no complaints there. For approximately £30 a night, who can complain? Outside of the hotel there are some quite nice views, depending on which way you’re facing. There was a smell of sewage outside which wasn’t very pleasant, but luckily, you couldn’t smell it from indoors.

Bed was very comfortable, Jose was absolutely amazing with us! Nothing was too much trouble.
Anna, I remember her from my last visit in July and she was still smiling as always! Very happy and polite lady! Draught lager , bottled beers, nice pizza, overall great service from the staff! Didn’t stop for breakfast, but from what it looked, it’s full continental, cold meats, croissants, cheese etc.
Looking forward to staying here again next year!

If you like a ‘prison vibe’ then this is the place for you.
The staff at reception were pleasant enough however the ladies in the cafe enjoyed shouting and pointing which only added to the full incarceration experience…. If that’s your kinda thing.
The whole place was kind of reminiscent of a popular Australian 80’s show ‘prisoner cell block H’
Food was poor, experience was pretty grim.
The huge reinforced metal gates securing the whole containment were sufficient to complete the prisoner experience 😊
On a plus point, I had a great sleep, and I escaped unharmed.

We've just returned from a tour of southern Spain and stayed one night at the Etap in Alicante. The room was just horrible, and the bathroom reminded of an automated public toilet cabin. When we used the shower the water ran all over the floor as there was nothing to stop it. No soap or shower gel were provided at all. Only one towel. No phone in the room. Paint was falling off the walls (which appeared to be made of paper) and the doors, the carpet was dirty, the remote for the TV didn't work and the lighting was horrible. Noisy from the corridors. There were some prostitutes hanging around near the hotel!! The only positive point is its close location to the sea. Don't stay there because you will leave as a depressed vegetable.

I have to say this before I give my review that this is not a complaint merely an observation.Ibis Budget Hotel is a great concept, it is great for the traveller to get their heads down in preparation for that early start/ early flight. Brilliant, my observation is that when you arrive in the evening as I and my wife did from the pre check in service on the app, we had to go to the main Ibis hotel which is on the same complex as the Ibis Budget Hotel, to check in as the budget hotel reception was closed, the commotion that greeted us was simply unnecessary, 3 staff at reception, 3 clients checking in where's the problem, each was doing each others jobs, I ask you. Finally we were booked in, easy process really, the we went to our room, dumped the bags and went back to the restaurant in the main hotel, as the budget hotel was closed, well the commotion there as well, 3 staff waiting including the chef, (if I can call him that), dirty tables, dirty floors, crockery and plates everywhere, and not any one knowing what they were doing, it took me and my wife to clear our own table, then catch the eye of the waiter that was more interested in talking to the cook than serving us.
