Liked · The view from the room was amazing, looking directly out onto the ocean, and in the evening straight onto the sunset. The room is spacious. The staff on reception were friendly and very competent. The breakfast was quite nice and offered a good variety. Good to have access to the spa. The rock pools are a pleasant 10 minute walk downhill. The small port is a 15 minute walk. The location is fantastic and I would definitely return.

I love going to the north of the island. It's much more authentic than the typical touristic areas of the south, The food is great. I think this is my favourite part of the island. The landscape is so impressive here too with no high-rise hotels spoiling the the view or the surroundings.

Disliked · The room though spacious is bit bare on the decoration side, it could really benefit from a painting or picture on the walls. There is no tea/coffee facilities. The restaurant was fully booked so I could not have dinner, nor was there an option to order food or even dine in room from the buffet. They were not very accommodating on this front.
There was only one person on reception which meant a bit of a wait for most queries.

The staff in Roca Negra are exceptional and very friendly and helpful.
The setting is idyllic with panoramic views across volcanic mountain ranges, down to the see and across to Tenerife on a clear day.
The rooms are thoroughly cleaned daily and the grounds and rooms are well maintained.
The nearest town, about 20 minutes walk, by the port, is an authentic fishing village with a real Canarian flavour and has 2 spars a pharmacy, lots of restaurants and a small number of other shops. Las Salinas rock pools are a short walk down a very steep hill (with scenic spots with benches en route) and are really pleasant to swim in.
This is a perfect hotel and location if you want a quiet but friendly holiday and are fit enough to enjoy hill walking or biking. Otherwise, you’ll need a car because the walk back from the town is a tough climb with no local bus stop and only a limited number of taxis.
The Pool area is well maintained and there is no shortage or hogging of the sunbeds.
It is one of the few hotels where I felt completely accepted, welcomed and valued as a solo traveler.
Negatives
The buffet food which is perfectly fine can get a bit samey after a while and I would like to be able to get more than snack food, such as a nice salad, for lunch. Water can only be bought in small bottles at the hotel and it is a trek to bring back the larger ones from the shop.
Shower fills more quickly than it drains.
The balconies are not in the sun which was not an issue for me because it is the price paid for the amazing view.
I wasn’t given advance notice about the €107 New Year’s Eve gala dinner so my choice was to pay it or eat snacks from the vending machine as it was too late to organise an alternative meal on the night.
The pool is in the shade for much of the day so the water is very cold in January but it was always empty enough to get a few laps in. Las Salinas pools are close and much warmer.
If you struggle to climb steep hills, you cannot stay here without a car.
Overall the negatives are small and are far outweighed by the positives and I really enjoyed my stay. I would have given 4.5 if the option was there.

Our room was super comfortable and the reception staff were efficient and friendly. The food was outstanding and restaurant staff were all very personable and friendly.
There are hand sanitising stations all over the hotel and processes have been put in place to keep everyone at distance.

The hotel offers a relaxed atmosphere to kick back and relax. There is none of the hectic and holiday stress I experience in bigger hotels or other locations. Check out the rock pools and the idyllic town and it’s restaurants. The sunset over the rock pools (which are warmer than the hotels pool in January) is fantastic. The sun hits the pool area all day but because of the north-west facing direction of the balconies they get little to no sunlight. The breakfast spread is divine if you enjoy fresh fruit, pastries and continental food. It’s simple but a great variety. Dinner was equally diverse but sometimes lacked in culinary depth. We decided to have dinners on and off at the hotel and other local places. The staff of the hotel is super lovely and welcoming. Overall a great stay (but we also had a car to explore other places).
One thing I would love to see change is the use of single-use plastics in the hotel. Instead maybe use paper or bamboo based straws for instance.

Spent 3 days at this lovely hotel. Really beautiful location with stunning views of the sea and mountains . It’s perfect for a 2-3 day getaway.... pool area outside is large and offers enough space.
Rooms could use some improvements here and there, but overall not bad at all. Spacious, which is important and large balconies.

Now to the bad:
- charging 20,00€ per person for use of indoor pool and sauna is unacceptable! It’s expected to pay for massage treatments but not for use of a thermal pool. No wonder it was empty!! I have visited enough hotels with same and / or better facilities and never had to pay extra for use of an indoor pool!

- food! Oh boy, where to start?! 2 out of 3 dinners we had there were a complete disaster. First night I was served raw fish! After sending it back, all I got in return was a whole lot of confused staff with noone really knowing how to rectify the problem. My husbands meat was covered in sauce with fat floating on surface... the chef took offense to our complaints!
Second night, there was so much confusion and disorganization in the restaurant, it took 20 minutes to just get the wine served, then 45 minutes between each course. Many guests ended up leaving before getting their desserts because they were fed up with waiting. And all this while restaurant was only 1/3 full.

Overall dissatisfied with the service...

This hotel has a great location on top of the rocks over the natural pools (salinas) down by the ocean and from the rooftop you can enjoy the views over the mountains (the Dragon's Tail). If you like spicy food then it is advisable not to go for half board as the dishes are rather restrained in terms of flavours. The swimming pools at the hotel are unfortunately not heated unlike some place else on the Canaries so if you go off-season then expect cool water temperatures.

Cordial Roca Negra:
True 4 star hotel which deserves 5 star review. It was our first time here, staying in honeymoon suite as family of three for one week just before Christmas. It was very delightful stay from start to finish. We were very pleased with staff services, all of them without exception were very friendly and helpful, always smiling and being very polite. My special thanks to Hektar: his friendly manners and cocktails at Rock Top Sky Bar were top class! Our room was comfortable with huge terrace facing west and north with lots of outdoor furniture including Balinese sun bed. Inside we had comfy bed and sofa bed for our boy, modern bathroom, probably too romantic for a family with just glass door dividing shower cubicle and bedroom. Room cleaned regularly and kept tidy. Choice of food in a restaurant was adequate for 4 star small hotel and food quality was very good. Location was perfect for relaxing break: surroundings were quiet and very peaceful. Had my usual morning runs along promenade and did a hike on nearby hills. Didn’t venture to dip down to natural pools this time, appeared to be a little bit cold, will try next time. Although water in the hotel’s main swimming pool was perfect for relaxing and also for swimming workout. We enjoyed snacks and drinks from pool bar.
Overall it was a perfect getaway and I would like to say big thank you to all staff at Cordial Roca Negra for looking after us so well. We already booked our next trip here: will be coming shortly and looking forward to our next holidays in Gran Canaria.

A really mixed bag and some very disappointing issues. Amazing location and very convenient for the port and sea pools. However.. the spacious room has very poor storage.. not one single drawer! Not particularly clean. A weird light above the bed glows all night.. very bad sleep quality. Air conditioning not working - we got engineer out but he said all the hotel affected. The room smelt really damp and horrible.. I put laundry detergent down the sink and flushed it out with hot water which improved it a bit. We therefore had to sleep with the door open but really bad light pollution from outside.. could not get room dark. Offhand staff in reception, very complicated voucher/checking in, a major effort to actually get a towel for the pool. Pool a great size but despite sign saying no entry until 10am which is very late.. we were told no entry until 11am! Crazy. Very few parasols about. Food - nice breakfasts with lots of lovely fresh fruit, lots of choice. Dinner a bit odd - a real mish mash of everything. The Juncal Restaurant is more like a canteen and reminded me of an underground car park! Very warm and humid. Lovely waitresses but rest of staff very offhand and not helpful.

Stayed on 23rd Dec in Junior Suite (room 103) for my husband's birthday. Really large living area emphasised by its total lack of character and furniture one small square table in entrance hall area and a small 2 seater sofa a wall mounted TVand a shelf over a small fridge in living room - cold and univiiting. Thermostat set at 19 degrees room was c old as was the bedroom with no heating available only air conditioning. Junior Suite no robes no slippers and towels were some of the thinnest and worn we have ever had. Wi fi was non existent in the room despite complaining to the front desk who said it would be checked. No a la carte menu in the restaurant for dinner and buffet choices were basic bland and cold

I know everyone’s experience is different, but I can’t understand why anyone would say anything majorly negative about this beautiful hotel. I’ll get my only gripe out of the way first. The WiFi in my room was simply not strong enough for what I needed, and I often had to use my own data plan, which can be expensive. It was fine in other areas of the hotel though. The breakfast was magnificent, with an incredible choice, but some of the items could have been a little hotter.
Now on to the good stuff. The hotel’s location is stunning and the views are breathtaking. The walk to and from the town takes you on a winding journey of beauty, such that you don’t really notice you’re walking uphill on the way back!
The hotel is extremely well designed and the double room I had was amazing, with a nice touch of a swing chair to relax and watch tv at the end of the day. You can use your own Netflix account, which was handy. Some people have complained about the waste of space but I liked it, and it gave the room a nice ambiance.
The bed was enormous and the pillows were the best I’ve ever experienced in a hotel.
I know I paid over the odds for my stay, but I booked it very last minute so I’m not really complaining.
Overall, I really think people should seriously think about staying here when they visit Gran Canaria. It’s a beautiful part of the island, far away from the hustle and bustle of Las Palmas. The town itself is akin to the old town look and the buildings are wonderful. Lots and lots of restaurant choice and the food was authentic and tasty. Thanks for making my trip so relaxing and memorable. I’ll be back!
