We stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful stay with friends. Cortemilia is a small and charming place, but I would not have picked this place myself. The hotel is great and the food in the restaurant excellent. Great vine cellar. Ask for a tour. The pool in the garden was nice, but not heated. Cold water in september....

Thank you Fahlvik for your review. It is important our clients share their impression... especially because, as you said, we live in a small "charming" town far away from big tourism.

We stayed two nights at the start of a walking holiday and were very impressed. The restaurant was outstanding as were the wines including a lovely vintage Barolo. Weather was very warm and relaxing in the lovely garden with pool was a bonus. Family owners / chef are very friendly and would certainly recommend.

Stayed here twice at start and end of a walking tour in the region; firstly with another couple, and in a group of 14 people at the end of the walk. Having visited Italy more than a dozen times, including living and travelling in Italy for 6 months, I think that this is one of the best two hotels at...

We visited this hotel twice over a ten day period. The second time we were a group of 14 completing a walking tour. Like other hotels in the Piedmont region, San Carlo is run by a family. It is obvious that this hotel is exudes professionalism. The rooms are very well maintained with great hot water and pressure. San Carlo...

Stayed here in July 2016 with the family. We drove down to Cortemilia after a visit to the Langhe area. The town of Cortemilia is ok, but there are many other more interesting towns in this area. The hotel is also ok. A bit old and out of date though. We had to talk to the front desk several times...

The family who run this hotel and its restaurant are true professionals. They obviously love their work. They must have hundreds of guests each year but they made us feel like special visitors, covering every detail to ensure a comfortable and relaxed stay. Dinner was like a birthday treat, not just another evening meal. It was a privilege stay here...

The hotel was built in the 1980's and has been renovated since. Carlo, the owner / operator is a celebrated chef and event organiser and the dinner was amazing. He also was a qualified sommelier and has a great wine cellar and knowledge of wine. If we had more time, I would have happily spent another few days here and...

We, two couples, spent the night at this delightful inn. Large comfortable lobby, clean, good size room and bathroom. Dinner was superb with extensive wine choices. Carlo showed us his 9,000 bottle wine cellar as well. Carlo and the rest of the family are wonderfully warm and helpful.

We stayed at the Hotel in September of 2015 where we started a walking holiday for seven days. The warmth shown by Carlo and his team was sincere and homely. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Villa San Carlo The Zarri family opened the "San Carlo" hotel and restaurant in the 1981 and recently renewed. It has always been a favourite stop for famouse italians and international visitors who came to Piedmont looking for a confortable stay in a fine hotel with traditional cooking linked to local produce. The "San Carlo" can offer a wide range of attractions such as : The restaurant : has got the nomination to the national price "Hotel of the Year" in the 1995 for the best restaurant. The cooking is based on traditional regional recipes sometimes offered with a touch of phantasy. Our specialities with hazelnuts are way to promote the symbol of Cortemilia. The charming dining-room "Gourmet" is romantically equipped with chimney and piano; during the summer we serve dinner under the stars in the garden by the pool. The wine-cellar : offers about 1000 great wines coming mainly from Piedmont. Wines from other italian regions and countries such as the Great Chateau de France or the new Chilean, American and South African are personally selected. In the year 2000, the wine list of San Carlo restaurant has been voted as one of the best 30 in Italy. The following year, in the 2001, Carlo Zarri has been named "Ambassador of italian wines". The bar : open only to hotel guests. A good way to relax before or after dinner or to enjoy refreshments on the terrace or by the pool during the warm summer days. The garden : hotel guests can find a garden of about 2500 square meters in the back of the house. An original Giant Sequoia from California grows among the over 100 different species of flowers and plants that are personally cared by the family. The swimming-pool : open for hotel guests only from the beginning of May to the end of September. It is ideally located in the garden, sun-lit from sunrise to sundown. Mountain-bikes : hotel offers to the guests mountain bikes free of charge to discover beautyful paths through the woods among the hills of the Langhe. ... more   less
