The surroundings were very beautiful, a slightly steep hill down to the warm clear lake & boathouse. Room basic but comfortable. The shower was superb and Molton Brown toiletries gave the added touch of excellence. Breakfast was good with Ssmoked salmon and good selection of breads, cold meats and cheese.

Had the chance to attend a wedding at Hotel La Villa. The service was attentive and nice. People were helpful. The food was simply delicious! I can recommend it to anyone who would like to spend some time at Starnberger see or just want to have dinner here.

The hotel has a great view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Very quiet and peaceful place. Even though the hotel is older the rooms are all new and fresh and modern. The outside has places just to relax and watch the lake. The service was spot on and very attentive. The breakfast in the moring was very good...

This isn't a hotel in the traditional sense as you don't just stop by for lunch or dinner as they operate more as a guesthouse. Perfect. And as a guest of the house, there is never a question that can't be answered or a problem that can't be solved. Excellent. I was there for six nights with a tour group...

The location of this hotel is both stunning and a challenge. I was there for a business conference. The cost of taxi from Munich airport is approx €125. The other option is the S Bahn which takes about 2 hours I am told. While it's much cheaper than a taxi, it wasn't an option as there was a rail strike...

This hotel is set in a beautiful historic building on a hilltop above the Lake, with broad sweeping views down the lawns to the water's edge. The staff was extremely friendly, international, and professional. They put my wife and myself in the wrong room the first night, but made up for it by giving us a lovely room for the...

Was there for a 24h business seminar. Very nice facility and beautiful grounds and views of the lake. The food was very attractive and tasty and offering great variety for breakfast, tailoring the many nationalities in our group. The only drawback was lack of noise insulation between rooms in one of the quaint pavilions for examples or my room in...

I stayed at this hotel for a business meeting and then a year end celebration. The facilities are very nice with a spectacular view of Lake Starnberg. The good: The facilities are well maintained. The room was comfortable and well heated. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The internet is included in the room rate. A relatively simple breakfast...

I stayed in Hotel La Villa for a business meeting, and whilst the hotel had a lot of plus points it also had a couple of big negative ones. On the plus side, the setting is wonderful with lawns stretching down to the lake, the service is very friendly and the food is also very good. But for me there...

We stayed one day at La Villa and it's by far the most beautiful hotel I've seen in the region. The service was absolutely warm and welcoming - we were greeted by a really nice staff member who helped us with the luggage. The hotel is distributed into multiple houses. Even though we had a room without any views to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
King Ludwig I of Bavaria presented the lake-front property to the merchant Angelo Knorr in 18TK as a sign of his gratitude for Knorr’s provision of flour during a famine. In the years from 1853 to 1855 Knorr had a country villa in the Italian style built on the site, to a design of Arnold Zenetti—who with this project became the founder of Lake Starnberg’s renowned "villa culture".Through the years, while many of the area’s elegant old villas were torn down or completely rebuilt in a modern style, the diminutive "Knorr palace" was lucky, for it retained its original features. Having been sensitively restored according to historical-preservation guidelines, La Villa conveys to the modern visitor the extraordinary charm of these elegant old villas. All the modern comforts are provided, but without intruding on the character of the historic ensemble. ... more   less
