We have 2 fabulous outside secluded lodges overlooking the spring fed lake. They have china, cutlery, 2 easy chairs, dining table and chairs with shower en-suite. Plus 1 bedroom with shower en-suite within the beautiful thatched house. Superb gardens around the lake, which you are free to enjoy, have a pi-nic , glass of wine or two or just simply enjoy and relax. Breakfast is served in the dining area overlooking the lake, traditional full English breakfast plus a choice of fish dishes, buffet table, with freshly prepared fruit, homemade preserves and homemade bread. Dry cured bacon and sausages from our butcher and eggs from our own chickens. Truly a breakfast to enjoy. A retreat with instant access onto the forest, ideally situated to park your car in our gated secure grounds and go walking , cycling or horse riding and we can recommend a superb drive across the forest to the coast, leaving the main roads behind. Come and enjoy. The Gardeners Lodge has recently been refurbished.

Such a beautiful perfect location. We stayed in the Gardeners Lodge ( the retreat overlooking the lake) which was a relaxing and extremely peaceful walking and cycling break over 5 days. The Lodge was clean and ample space with bed, kitchenette , dining table , tv , wardrobe and two comfy rocking chairs . Every detail catered for down to a sweet little sewing kit . Bathroom and walk-in shower spotless. Many hours spent relaxing and reading around the lake . Perfect spot. Supplies on arrival so thoughtful. Both Chrissy and Martyn are such lovely hosts who were always on hand for a friendly chat or a suggestion or two for a walk or best eatery. Thank you both for an amazing break .

A very pleasant spot, particularly the lake and the ducks which came to visit every afternoon. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and a lot of food is provided to make breakfasts. The location, just outside Fordingbridge, is very convenient for the area.

What a beautiful little place. Me and my Partner stayed here in December and although a little chilly on arrival-plug in heater was turned low-once turned up the hayloft was sooo cosy. A lovely big, comfortable bed with a skylight above. A view of the pond from the other one. And a nice hot shower.
We had a very generous fridge of goodies (fruit, yogurt, croissants, bread, jams, milk) considering we were only there for 2 nights as well!

There is a pub about a 5 minute cycle away. We only popped in for a quick bite but seemed friendly (and an amazing bowl of dirty fries!).

I most definitely feel I need to go back and stay again during spring/summer to really appreciate this wonderful property and its surroundings.

Finally, I have to say a big thank you to Martyn for his hospitality. Martyn was so incredibly friendly, approachable and more than happy to make our stay as comfortable as possible. But overall, he left us to our own devices to come and go as we pleased. We were also lucky enough to see some of the weddings cars he has and it was lovely to share stories over coffee. Although, we only met for a short period, Martyn holds a very special place in my heart and I would definitely return and recommend to others. Thank you.

The title says it all. This is an incredibly peaceful place to stay. The retreat is essentially a studio room. It is perfect for a couple, wanting a few days away to enjoy the New Forest. It is well equipped and Martyn, the owner, stocks the fridge with breakfast items. There’s cereal, milk, yogurt, bread, crumpets and fruit. The location is perfect and Martyn knows the area well. We’ve been twice and will happily return.

We stayed in The Retreat for 3 nights but would have liked to stay longer.

Perfect host, friendly and very helpful.

Cottage was clean, tidy and well stocked with supplies for making your own breakfast.

Really comfortable bed... mmm

Peaceful location and good pub ( Foresters ) within walking distance.

Would highly recommend.

Just spent a wonderful weekend with kingfisher retreat,
The gardens are superb, the rooms are spotless(really made you feel it would be rude to keep your shoes on!)
They have everything you would want, very well thought out, and all the fittings are in perfect condition.
Breakfasts were superb with quality ingredients, cooked while you enjoyed cereal and juices.
We have stayed in many b&bs over the years, and I can't say I remember a better one.
Very comfortable and perfect for visiting the forest. We would even consider staying if we were further afield, simply because how nice it is, and how nice Martin and Chrissy are.
Thank you both for making our weekend truly memorable.

Stayed for 3 nights with my wife, we stayed in the gardeners lodge which was very homely and comfortable. The setting of the whole place is great and set within great walks and nice pubs, all of which Chrissy and Martyn will advise you on. We spent a couple of afternoons relaxing by the lake. Breakfast was really tasty, thank you Chrissy and Martyn for a lovely stay....we will return!

Just got back from a long weekend at the Kingfisher Retreat, normally i dont bother with reviews but felt I had to leave one for this truely spectacular B&B. First thing that hits you is the warm welcome you get from Chrissy and Martyn, such great friendly people that make you feel right at home. Then you are hit by the stunning house, out buildings and last but not least the gardens surrounding. All their hard work really does show. We stayed in The Gardeners Lodge, its so cute and very clean with everything you need. Overall a top quality B&B with fantastic owners that provide a great breakfast ! This is the perfect place to go for a relaxing getaway and we will definitely be back. Thanks again Chrissy and Martyn for everything - forgot to leave a note so hope you found the bottle of wine we left in the fridge for you, enjoy and hope to see you again...
