Friendly and helpful owners whose English is way better than my Japanese. Basic breakfast of toast and tea/coffee. The single room was perfect with an ensuite bigger than I expected in Japan. Futon was comfy and the doona soft and warm. Reasonably close to the local rail station and then it's only one stop to the JR.

The Family Inn Saiko is a very good choice if you don´t want to stay in typical big anonymous Tokyo Hotel. The Saiko offers a nice athmosphere in the beautiful downtown of Ikebukuro. The staff is super friendly, the rooms in a typical japanese style. The trainstation is about 10 minutes walk away so you have a fast ride to...

We spent three weeks in Japan, and we found that we had the best sleep at the Family Inn Saiko. The best thing is that you have your own air conditioning unit. We always get overheated at the other places, and the bedding is too warm, but here we could turn off the heating overnight and were able to sleep...

Great introduction to Tokyo. Lovely hosts who helped us arrange our days. Clean room with traditional bedding. Quiet neighbourhood not far from subway (15min) or main JR station (30min). Highly recommended and excellent value for money.

My first taste of Japan was with the Family Inn Saiko, and it didn't disappoint. The hospitality and generosity shown by the staff here made me feel more like a visiting family member than a guest. Information was clearly available on using the amenities, such serving yourself unlimited tea or coffee, and booking the private use of the bath upstairs...

The inn is run by personable hosts who will take care of you and your needs, offer travel and dining options, and are just lovely all around. It is homey and then rooms are spacious for the price. Conveniently located between two different train lines, each a short trip away from Ikebukuro station. I really enjoyed the fact that it...

It was a great stay at Family Inn Saiko. The owners are really friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand to introduce where to go, food to eat and how to get to places. Love how cosy the feeling of the inn is. The room is simple and nice (though small, not surprising for any rooms in Tokyo).

Just returned from a 2 week family vacation to Japan(1st timers) & spent our 1st 5 nights there. Wanted to experience a traditional Ryokan before moving on to a 5 star type of accommodation. Have to admit it was as good if not better than the more " glitzy" hotels we stayed at. Reasons? 1). After spending all day in...

We loved staying in a quieter neighborhood in Tokyo, especially once we figured out that we could take the Seibu line train to a neighborhood stop rather than walk the 30 minutes from the Ikebukuro subway station. The neighborhood had many good restaurants, shops and a great bakery, and gave a less touristy view of Tokyo; few shopkeepers spoke English....

“They will likely assign the rooms. But this is a good place to stay after trying other Ryokans out. Very clean (like most Ryokans) but the in-room bathroom adds to comfort and convenience. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, but is still close to major subway stations and has a lot of delicious food.”
