Stayed here last week with a big group of students from my university. The room wasn't that big, but it was still clean and comfortable. The hotel provides many amenities such as hairbrushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc, and like many other Japanese hotels the toilet is pretty high-tech with different flush options and things like that. The location was great- there...

The hotel was part of a tour package. The room was very ordinary, quite outdated decor in fact. The shower didn't really work very well, the water was either too hot or too cold. The minibar was empty. Cleanliness was of course not a problem as with most other hotels in Japan. Everything was sparkling clean. What redeemed the hotel...

Stayed here for 4N as a base to set out and explore Tokyo after 6N in Hakuba. Booked a non smoking king room through Expedia, but on check in they said that a non smoking room was not available and offered me an upgrade to the Metropolitan Room for 2100Yen/N. The check in was swift and painless. Checked the smoking...

We had booked a superior queen room for six nights at this hotel, on booking.com at a very reasonable price. On arrival, we were upgraded to a superior king room. It was evening when we arrived, so we were delighted to finally get to our room. And what a room! We had heard that a lot of hotel rooms in...

Decent hotel, very convenient near the station, couple of places to eat around. The double bedroom is way too small, the twin is not much more expensive and is nearly double the size with both beds of the same dimension than the double bedroom. My Internet connection was faulty in the first room, then when I changed to another room,...

This hotel was my only choice for my most recent trip to Tokyo and it was the best decision I made. Just as the others have stated, the standard rooms were indeed small by American standards, but all the necessary amenities are there like tv (flat screen), toiletries (shaver, toothbrush/paste, shower cap, cotton buds, plenty of shampoo, soap, and conditioner,...

We stayed here for 5 nights. The room is pretty small but it's acceptable. The service is great. The staffs are very helpful and polite. The location of this hotel is excellent only a few minutes walk to subway station.

I decided to treat myself for my birthday and take a trip to Tokyo. This was my first trip outside the United States. I read several forums and travel books on places to stay and decided on Ikebukuro. The Hotel Metropolitan is rated number one on this site for the area and I was not disappointed in any way. I...

We stayed here for two nights and would recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff are all very nice & speak English very well - they could answer most of our questions from directions to booking us a Limousine bus back to the airport. Check-in was very efficient - we booked at Expedia and we didn't have any problems. The...

We booked this hotel as part of Cathy Pacific holidays. The hotel room was big in Japanese standard. The room was kept very clean though the decor is starting to get a little old. It's quite so we slept well. The location was excellent, within walking distance to the lkebukuro train station and lots of eating places and department stores....

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
