Looking for an inexpensive hotel to stay in Tokyo in December I stumbled upon this one. Everything looked fine at the first glance: reasonable price, convenient location, interesting neighbourhood and a lot of positive reviews on the 'net. And indeed, finding the hotel was an easy task even though I've never been around the place before. Getting to the Ark...

I stayed here for 4 nights. We had the economy room, so they told us which date they would clean our room. However, every morning you can place your used towels outside and garbage and they will pick it up/give a new set of towels and garbage bag. The room was very spacious, especially given that we are in Tokyo....

If you check the map properly before trying to locate the hotel, it is really easy to find. It is within easy walking distance from Ikebukuro Station. The immediate surroundings may not be particularly nice, but if you walk for five minutes at the most, you are in a nice area with shops and restaurants. We really appreciated the breakfast.

The hotel is just a minute away from shopping and local restaurants and entertainments. Just like other hotels in toyko, the rooms are small. But the one i stayed was cozy and clean. I also appreciate the staff quick response to my enquiries. One suggestion to the hotel is giving bottle water for room guests.

I opted for Ark Hotel mainly because of its location. It only takes about 8 minutes to walk from the hotel to Ikebukuro Station, where large shopping malls and pedestrian zones are around the corner. Similar to other budget hotels in Japan, the rooms are typically small. It adheres to an environmentally friendly rule that the housekeepers only tidy up...

This hotel is as small as is typical for budget hotels in Tokyo, but is very comfy and clean. It's in the middle of the places I wanted to go to: Animate, Tokyu Hands, Otome Road. And like anywhere in Tokyo, the staff are really kind and helpful.

I just completed a 10-day stay at the Ark Hotel in Ikebukuro. Having stayed in many hotels in the surrounding area, this was one of the nicest for the price. The hotel is located adjacent to the elevated expressway but for my stay the room was on the opposite of the hotel and amazingly quiet. Many smaller "hotels" can be...

The personnel is very kind, even though they speak almost no english they wil try to help you in everyway they can't.

We stayed in the Ark Hotel for 2 days at the begining of our holiday and again for 4 at the end. It was located at the end of the main street in Ikebukuro and very close to Sunshine City, a huge shopping mall. Its about 5/10 mins walk from ikebukuro station and although isn't the most convienent lacation in...

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.

“I'd opt for an "east" side room if possible to avoid the early morning traffic noise that can affect the noise level for rooms in this hotel.”
