I found this hostel when researching some places to have a unique accomodation experience in tokyo. my boyfriend and i stayed in a co ed 6 bed dorm for two nights and it was a great stay. compared to most hostels which have several bunks shoved into one room and a party vibe, this hostel was peaceful with its cute...

I've traveled as a solo backpacker for almost a year now. Stayed in hostels in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Singapore, and Melbourne but this is the best hostel I've ever been in. It is located within walking distance of two train stations (including JR!) and convenience stores. I would arrive home at night and always felt safe. There is a complimentary...

The hostel is located conveniently by Iriya Station, a quiet, pretty suburb. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. You will easily meet friends over the 300 yen traditional breakfast and your complimentary evening drink. The house, built in the 1920s, wraps around a stunning traditional garden. The hostel itself has been designed in a manner very sensitive to the...

Location: This hostel is very conveniently located in a quiet area, but just steps away from the excitement of Tokyo. Ueno is only a stop away! The staff will very happily help you find your way and the hostel maps are very useful. Lots of yummy food is located right next to the hostel (best ramen in Tokyo- ask at...

This guesthouse is very popular, so I was lucky to be able to make a booking! I was warmly welcomed by the staff (and people from the neighbourhood and those staying at the hostel) when I arrived. The welcome drink was a nice surprise. I enjoyed talking with other travellers and locals who visit the TOCO Bar for a drink...

This guesthouse is by far,the best hostel I've ever stayed. The place itself is just amazing, which is almost 100 year old traditional Japanese house. The staffs working here are very friendly , shower rooms and bathrooms are also kept very clean. Even though it is extremely hard to make a reservation here, since it is so popular, I always...

It's a lovely place to stay and the staff is really nice. They have some activities in the reception of the hostel where you can meet other guests and people from the neighborhood, the first time that we stayed we learned how to cook gyozas.

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
