I would recommend this place for an experienced traveler but probably not for someone making there first international visits. I don't expect every on to speak English but there was no real way to communicate at all with the staff without help. It could also be difficult to find if you did not have experience tracking places down from previous...

We took a triple room even if we were just 2 persons, to get more space to put our futons and our bags ... and we could not even fit properly (and we are not large/fat). Our bathroom (small shower and toilet) was so tiny that we recommend persons higher than 1m70 and bigger than 90kg not to come here....

Had a safe and convenient stay with a small child. They have Western style as well as Japanese rooms - tried both and the family room. All were very clean and tidy. While the regular rooms are rather small, the family room is enormous with separate bathroom and toilets. Baby got a bed for free. Common fridges are placed in...

This lodging looks the part, with lovely photos of Japan scattered throughout. But the room we booked was quite small for Western preferences, the entire floor shared a toilet and I'm still not even sure if I used the correct men's shower two nights in a row. We had to do some laundry, the owner said okay, but both the...

On a recent 2 week trip to Japan we stayed 3 nights at Sakura as part of a tour. We had already been in Tokyo for 3 nights at another hotel and had been very impressed with Japanese culture in particular cleanliness, and civility. We did not find this at Sakura. The owner was grumpy and the kitchen was dirty....

My husband and I stayed only one night in the western room on a last minute booking. The rate was very reasonable. Location is not very ideal if you are planning to visit many of the major tourist attractions. It is north of city centre and about 650km from the closest subway station, IRIYA. It seemed to be family ran...

They have very clean rooms. They serve very nice Japanese breakfast, value for money in-term of taste and volume. The amount is too much for us expect my husband, we cannot finish the food. The location is good with a few good restaurants, a family-mart just a minute away and there is one more 7 eleven store nearby and a supermarket...

Staff were very friendly, the man stayed up till 9pm and waited for me when I was due to arrive in Tokyo. Clean rooms and nice wash-room (with a lock) with large bath. The door is open all day and night so there are no curfews. The ryokan also had a small lift which was handy with my heavy bags.

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
