The Avalon is extremely well located by the beach front offering easy access to the fabulous sandy beach. It was very comfortable and clean with friendly, helpful owners. The beach want too busy and the beachfront restaurants and cafes were great. We had a lovely stay here - brilliant for a short UK beach break.

Just returned from a great two day break at The Avalon. Steve and Anne are the nicest couple. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was beautifully clean with lovely fluffy white towels, the bed was super cumfy didn't want to leave it after a great nights sleep. The location was perfect, two minutes walk and you were on the beautiful sandy beach. Gorleston has so much to offer. Give the Avalon a try, you won't be disappointed and I'm sure you will return, I certainly will. Thanks Steve and Anne.

We arrived 4pm with a hospitable welcome and disabled so was offered the ground floor accessible room with a wet room. There was super ample space with a double and a single bed. Very comfy with tea/coffee making facilities and branded tea, biscuits and coffee etc. Husband went to get us a take-away as not doing food this time of year as very quiet.

Lots of clean, fluffy towels and decent toiletries.

It was a little loud when people walked up and down the stairs, but being on the ground floor and next to the dining room...was expected and not too bad. I always sleep with earplug anyway. Good quality TV in room with free view and the hosts were very helpful and informative. They were also very considerate with my care needs.

Breakfast was great! We had the whole dining room to ourselves and was adequately stocked with all branded cereal, grapefruit segments, juices, yogurts etc. We were offered tea or coffee and what we wanted for breakfast. OH had bacon, poached eggs, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms. I had bacon, fried egg, beans and 1 toast. Could have had lots more, but I have no appetite due to illnesses. There was also plenty of jam/marmalade choices! All cooked well and not cheap ingredients.

This is the 2nd time we've visited in the last 5 years and this visit did not fail us and we will return again once Im a bit better hopefully heath-wise.

This bargain night cost £45 for the 2 of us including the breakfast and was booked through booking.com.

Definitely come and visit them! You'll love it and the beautiful location.

Two nights accommodation booked costing £130. Advised on arrival that shower not working properly in our room and could only be activated from a power switch outside the bathroom. Breakfast basic and unappealing. Decor tired and worn. Exterior floodlights left on to shine into our first floor bedroom until 4.30am and therefore hard to sleep. Not recommended.

Stayed two nights. No-one to welcome us and no-one ever enquired wether we were comfortable. Key stuck to front door. Decor in our room tired and dated and faulty shower. No toiletries. Lots of noise from workman outside room and we had to squeeze passed his gear.He said no-one had told him our room was occupied.
Breakfast was indifferent. Made the mistake of ordering tomatoes which were tinned and swimming in juice.Room was not serviced overnight and tea/coffee/ biscuits not replenished. For the price this was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in.

We were visiting the town for a night out and booked the Avalon as the local hotel was full and there weren't a lot of others advertised.

The decor is straight out of the 80's and you need to like pine. Especially if it comes in the form of squeaky and uncomfortable bed with a tired mattress. The bathroom is a pod in the corner of the room that offers almost no privacy. The breakfast that we sorely needed after a heavy night was made up of very cheap ingredients and not very appetising.

All in all it's not somewhere I'd recommend

Stayed here for just one night with friends. We were very surprised when we turned up that an envelope was stuck on the front door with our names and the keys to the house and rooms - never ever had that happen before. There was no welcome as apparently the owners do not live on site. Our rooms were on the top floor and we had 2 beds in our room. We had tea making facilities but the toileteries just consisted of a minute box with a bar of soap, the size of a 10p coin! Just as well we bought our own shower gel. There was no hairdryer and when I asked the next morning if they supplied one, I was told it was in the bedside cabinet but there wasn't one supplied in either of our rooms. The bathroom was very old and tired and the cupboard was plastic and well past its sell-buy date - dirty yellow!
We did have dinner in the evening at the B&B which was very nice and the the bar stayed open until 10pm after which we went to another local hotel.
Breakfast was fine but very meagre and whilst we were asked if we would like full english etc, the mushrooms and baked beans portions would only just fill a teaspoon.
I know that B&B's are catagorised in a different way to hotels, but there is no way that this B&B is a 4 star. It's very tired and needs a complete makeover as some of the updating is just 'make-do' which for the cost of the rooms is not good enough. The up-side is that it within walking distance of the town.
When we left and gave back our keys we were not even asked if we'd enjoyed our stay and if everything was to our satisfaction, which we thought was very poor.

We were surprisingly disappointed with our stay here given its previous reviews. There were some positives, but given all the negatives, we struggled to focus on them. The location is great, for a start - right next to the peaceful, clean Gorleston beach. We arrived at about 6pm and our key was left outside for us, which is fine, but not the welcome that we would have liked. I think we may have got the short straw on rooms - a large room on the ground floor with disabled access-toilet. It was a bit grubby in places (dusty), had dated decor and had a musty smell because of the en-suite being a wet-room with little ventilation. The beds were comfy but no-one serviced the room during our stay which would have been nice to make the beds, give us clean mugs, replace tea/biscuits, etc. We would have liked an info pack, as seems normal in B&Bs, with some info about the B&B/wi-fi access/local info. There wasn't even a bar of soap in the bathroom which is pretty unusual. The toilet stopped flushing half way through our stay, and, although the owner fixed it quickly when we told her, it was just another thing to add to the list which we feel dampened our stay here and shouldn't really happen. Breakfast was okay...just. There was cereal, toast, and full-english available. But little things, like, tinned tomatoes instead of fresh, not much choice of fruit, nothing advertised for vegetarians (there was likely something available but a menu would have been nice so we could see the options) meant it was really nothing special. There just seemed to be a lack of any real personal touch/endeavour to make things comfortable for us. Overall, our stay was fine, but not good enough to make us feel like we were somewhere nice on holiday and, as such, we wouldn't return here.

Had a lovely weekend in Gorleston. The Avalon isn’t an amazing B&B but was fine for us. Stayed in Room 11 on ground floor, large spacious family room with disabled access, Tea & Coffee making facilities, TV with full FreeView channels.

Room cleaned, beds made & clean towels everyday.

Our Bed was a bit uncomfortable, felt like it may have been a bit collapsed on the right hand side. My back is shot to bits anyway but was worse after sleeping in the Bed there. Bathroom was a wetroom, had a bad smell in it to start with, just a damp smell, I put bleach down all the plugholes, toilet etc then realised when we used the Shower that the plughole was blocked & the Water was running across the bathroom & rotting a wooden cabinet the otherside. I spoke to the staff about it as didn’t want to flood their room & soak the Carpet, they were very helpful & seemingly it was sorted out.
The Breakfasts were fine; Cereals, Toast, Cooked Breakfasts, Yoghurts etc some of the Fruit was past it’s best.

Windbreakers, Beach Mats etc available to borrow for the Day, lots of leaflets & info in hallway on local attractions & places to visit.
They have a great balance between guests given privacy but knowing there’s someone only a bellring away should anyone need anything. No curfews so you can come & go as you please - whatever time. Was lovely & quiet when we were there.

Only downside WiFi doesn’t work anywhere in the B&B 😕

Hi. No there is no parking to this hotel and it is only street parking and I must say it was a little difficult when we came back late one night to park in the actual road the hotel is in. There is also parking on the seafront with not too much of a walk.
