Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Alfie (Lurcher dog) and I had a wonderful stay here for three nights. The staff are truly wonderful, the food is superb and the location on a typical French square is second to none. The ambience is palpable and you can really feel the heady racing days especially given the fact I stayed in the Sterling Moss suite. I highly recommend a visit but you need to know one night is not enough ! I’ll definitely be back.

A professionally run and welcoming business that provides most of what we seek in a Logis. Situated in the charming central square yet not suffering undue noise. The hotel has an interesting motor sport leaning which contributes further to the history of what is a lovely period building. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable and spotless and the whole establishment avoids the otherwise relentless temptation to 'contemporise' into the so common garish replacement to the original style that provides unique character.

Hotel de France I really love this hotel, you pull up outside to what looks like a remnant of the glory days of the twenties (1920's not 2020's cos that would be silly) the reception staff found our online reservation quickly and efficiently and even offered to carry our bag. (Don't get that anywhere else at this price!) The room has had it's motoring heritage tamed slightly and is redolent in an almost 'fin de siecle' vibe with its large double windows, heavy drapes, gilt mirrors and dark solid furniture it's a real delight. Clean, comfy and well equipped it's everything you would ever want. Every member of staff we ran across was friendly and so, so helpful. Top marks. Sit outside with a pastis and watch the comings and goings for an hour or two, watch the world come and go and keep a watch for the inevitable piece of motoring exotica till it's time for dinner. Which is, unfortunate? The menu is sparce and uninspiring and the service was, well, challenging at best. Nice young people trying hard but obviously lacking in meaningful training with one or two out of their depth. This is not their fault but management should do better. The food was disappointing, under seasoned, and apparently with more concerns with cost than eating pleasure. Guys! Come on! France is the home of gastronomy, the sauce capital of the world! Where was the butter? The cream? The champignons? The flavour? My duck hadn't been rested properly so bled into my sweet potato, basic stuff. My aperitif arrived after the first course which is minor but irritating. I know it's not easy, I really do but I can hold my hand up and say I have eaten better in a cheap café in a side street in Marseille than I did here. And no, it's not a one off, it was the same last time I came. It's a real shame as the hotel itself is a delight but the food stops it being the true gem that it has the potential to be.

Loved it A perfect end to our holiday in the South. Graham Hill room was fabulous. Spotlessly clean. Friendly check in/out with reception. Glass of wine outside on the terrace in the sunshine. Plenty of free parking. Beautiful village. Loved it.

This hotel and excellent restaurant are in the central square of a small and typical French village on the river Loir. It appears to be English family run and certainly there are plenty of English guests as well as French regulars. The hotel has a Le Mans racing history but this dates from the 1950/60s so you are unlikely to see Lewis Hamilton at the bar. What you will see in the bar are loads of photographs from that previous era where racing teams stayed at the hotel. There is plenty of seemingly safe and free parking outside the hotel on the square where you may also see vintage cars. Sitting outside with a drink watching cars and locals is a pleasure. So the scene is set from a bygone and gentler earlier era with the furnishings reflecting this although, of course, modernisation has taken place. Our room was in the annex a few steps from the hotel entrance. On entering the building there was a faint smell which reminded me of cigarette smoke but this was not in our bedroom. The place is clean but not fastidiously so. We had a twin bedroom with bath and period dark furniture. It was comfortable and reasonably priced (€110) but there are larger rooms available. The staff and service is exemplary with all prepared to chat. Breakfast was not included with our room rate and it is taken in the bar, again a pleasant experience. The highlight was dinner in the atmospheric and very French dining room. Grenadin de Veal steak was beautifully cooked and tender as was Filet Daurade Beurre Vert. This restaurant must be well known as it was full - mainly with locals. The hotel is a good stopping off venue if you are travelling west or south but equally suitable for a short stay. It will be particularly attractive to those who are interested in cars or motorsports and want to sample French village life. There are other restaurants in the village but also a great bakery where you can stock up for your journey. Not much more to see apart from, strangely, a large number of shops selling vintage items. We shall look forward to returning.

Stopped off gere on the way south. The hotel is a lovely old French auberge with decent rooms and a great location in a lovely small town. The hotel is a centre for motorsport heritage and has a fascinating history. The restaurant was good too. If in this area it is well worth a stay.

Step back in time to this homage to the heady days of Le Mans racing in the 1950s and 1960s. Steve McQueen, Graham Hill, Derek Bell...and me have stayed here The food was good but it is not and does not pretend to be Michelin starred. What IS starred are the staff who could not have been more friendly and helpful. It is dog friendly Room was good everything worked

The hotel offers period quaintness, comfortable rooms of character without the often too accompanying idiosyncrasies. Everything in our room was functionally designed and worked. The bar and restaurant are equally charming. The food and drink was limited in choice but of the plentiful well cooked variety albeit perhaps a little pricey for it and other than potatoes were were some vegetables! The rooms however were reasonably priced and reasonably quiet. All who worked here were extremely pleasant and we enjoyed our stay.

I only stayed here the one night as a stop-over... I wished I'd stayed longer! My heart sank when I was told I was in an annex... But what an annex!A great size room, quiet, good size en-suite and the comfiest of beds... And the towels! Wow! So soft! The evening meal was just delicious... the wine superb! The breakfast was excellent too... The staff are absolutely lovely. And the bonus... a decent sized swimming pool with towels (more towels!) provided for pool use. I will definitely be returning.

Easy parking in the town square in front of the hotel. This is an interesting hotel which has been associated with Le Mans 24 hr race and has pictures of many famous drivers who have stayed at the hotel on the wall in the bar. All rooms are named after drivers, as a family of 4 we stayed in the Roy Salvadori room which had a view onto the square. Room was immaculately clean and everything worked as it should. Staff were welcoming and very professional. We ate dinning in the restaurant and it was perfect in every way. Service could not have been better, this is a great hotel and we will visit again.
