Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The House was beautifully appointed and spacious, it offered everything we needed. The location was 780 Mtrs above a beautiful valley and with vistas of the Alps to die for. We loved the pool and swam every day. The setting of which was
amazing and one we will remember.
Once we arrived, everything was just perfect. If you want peace and quiet, it is here, hard put to find better. Annick and Charles were perfect hosts.
Getting to the property from Nice was not the easiest after two delayed fights , but the challenge was well worth it.
Eating out is no problem, we took Charles's advice and were very happy.

We have just returned from a third stay at Vieil Aiglun. This place is surrounded by wonderful natural scenery with remarkable views. The cottage is spacious, comfortable and very well maintained. The owners are charming and welcome you with attention.
An experience to be repeated without hesitation.

Vieil Aiglun is absolutely the most wonderful place we have stayed. Charles and Annick are incredibly welcoming, and the views are just stunning. The pool is gorgeous, the area is beautiful, and the accommodation is first rate. Make sure you make it to Aiglun market to try the incredible ice cream! We have been twice and one thing we loved this year was exploring Digne les Bains which is a really wonderful working town with a lovely, relaxed atmosphere . Lac St Croix is gorgeous and the gorges of Trevan and Verdun very close. Also the UNESCO geological sites are amazing- worth the short hike up to see the Ichthyosaurus!

We arrived at a rainy day and the surrounding had a touch of mystic atmosphere.
The little church and the peaks of the mountains wrapped in clouds…phantastic moments.

The house we stayed in, Gîte du Levant, is a dream of a cottage. Kids room with gallery and lovely arranged beds
Superior parents room with breathtaking look over the hills and mountains.
The whole property including the pool was in very good condition.
We will love to come back to this little piece of heaven…
Thank you very much Annick and Charles

Very pleasant, clean and comfortable house at the top of Aiglun. Magnificent view of the snow-capped peaks. Charming and attentive hosts. A very good stay on all levels.
The place is isolated and quiet. You can take your first hikes directly from the house. Perfect.

We were lucky enough to find Le Vieil Aiglun while looking through websites of hotels in Provence and we couldn't have asked for more. The place is absolutely stunning. Pictures we had seen were nice, but nothing compared to being there for real.

The town where the hotel is located is about 5 minutes from Digne Les Bains, 45 from Aix-en-Provence and also close to the beautiful Gorges du Verdon.

The hosts were really nice, the room was impeccable, the breakfast and dinner delicious. We are promising ourselves to go back there one day.

My 8 year old son and I stayed here for five days over Easter and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The house is set amongst the fascinating ruins of an abandoned village and overlooked by an impressive church which is floodlit at night. The house, the guest rooms and gites have been well restored and are extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean and very tastefully furnished and decorated.
The place is located in a very rural setting at the top of a hill reached by a rather winding, narrow lane, but it is still close to Digne les Bains and Sisteron which have the usual facilities of any small French towns. Many tourist sites are within easy access, and if you don;t fancy driving then there's plenty of good walking to be had for which the owners are more than happy to advise on. Or you could just sit by the pool and ponder the amazing views, play boules, or if you really want to sit inside there is a small but lovely guest sitting room with a selection of games, books, TV (albeit Fremch only) and wifi internet access point.
Tasty dinners are served twice a week in a huge barrel vaulted room with the biggest fireplace I have ever seen, and on the nights when food is not being served and you don't fancy driving you can either use the kitchen facility which is available to guests (with fridge, microwave ovens, crockery, etc), or alternatively there is a local chef who delivers 3 course meals which you can heat up at your leisure. the hosts will even provide picnics on request - great of you are off hiking. Breakfasts are buffet style served in the same huge dining room and comprise a selection of cheeses, breads, fruit, yoghurt, juices, etc. as well as good quality chocolate - the owners, Annick and Charles, are Belgians after all!!
For animal lovers, there a couple of very cute rabbits and a dog, Ferdinand, who never failed to put a smile on people's faces with his friendliness. There are funky little bird houses hidden in the strangest of places, and if that's not enough to keep the kids fascinated, there is also a small play area, table tennis as well as the aforementioned boules and parlour games.
All in all a tip top place to stay and i will definitely return as soon as I get the chance.

I was reviewing our trip in 2009 recently and for some reason I had overlooked writing a review for this wonderful place. I must say although we only stayed 1 night (in spring) and arrived late, due to a long drive from our previous accomodation, it was by far the most memorable place of our trip through France. The hosts were wonderful to deal with, very accomodating and helpful. We awoke in the morning to the sound of cuckoo birds and a magnificent 360 degree view of the French Alps atop of the little hill where Le Vieil Aiglun is poised. We had a lovely breakfast which was all part of the experience and went for a short stroll up the hill, led by the hosts extremely friendly dog. If you are looking for natural beauty, tranquility, peace and a relaxing experience, don't look any further. Hope to spend a little more time there on our next adventure.
