The House was beautifully appointed and spacious, it offered everything we needed. The location was 780 Mtrs above a beautiful valley and with vistas of the Alps to die for. We loved the pool and swam every day. The setting of which was amazing and one we will remember. Once we arrived, everything was just perfect. If you want peace and quiet, it is here, hard put to find better. Annick and Charles were perfect hosts. Getting to the property from Nice was not the easiest after two delayed fights , but the challenge was well worth it. Eating out is no problem, we took Charles's advice and were very happy.

Property's Favourite Review
Vieil Aiglun is absolutely the most wonderful place we have stayed. Charles and Annick are incredibly welcoming, and the views are just stunning. The pool is gorgeous, the area is beautiful, and the accommodation is first rate. Make sure you make it to Aiglun market to try the incredible ice cream! We have been twice and one thing we loved this year was exploring Digne les Bains which is a really wonderful working town with a lovely, relaxed atmosphere . Lac St Croix is gorgeous and the gorges of Trevan and Verdun very close. Also the UNESCO geological sites are amazing- worth the short hike up to see the Ichthyosaurus!

We arrived at a rainy day and the surrounding had a touch of mystic atmosphere. The little church and the peaks of the mountains wrapped in clouds…phantastic moments. The house we stayed in, Gîte du Levant, is a dream of a cottage. Kids room with gallery and lovely arranged beds Superior parents room with breathtaking look over the hills and mountains. The whole property including the pool was in very good condition. We will love to come back to this little piece of heaven… Thank you very much Annick and Charles

Paradise may not be achievable on earth, but this place enables you to get right alongside it. Charles and Annick Speth have restored the four restorable houses in a long-deserted Provencal hilltop village, overlooked by the still operating 16th century church. One house they live in themselves, the others they rent out. We were 8 plus a baby in the Gite de Midi, billeted in four gracious and spacious double bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. I am not sure where to start in singing the praises of the Gite and its environs - and indeed the incredibly helpful owners. The huge views to the high Alps to the East are every bit as astounding as in the picture above. Nearer at hand, on all sides, rolling hills offering wonderful walks up hills, through forests, down gorges (and you don't have to go as far as the tourist-choked Verdon gorge) and through the alleyways of ancient hilltop villages. Given the nine hairpin bends on the steep lane leading to the village, it is tempting to while away days doing little, swimming in a pool with a vista reminiscent of the terazza d'infinita at Ravello, reading in hammocks slung between pines in the extensive grounds, playing on the boule pitch, enjoying a traffic-free silence filled only with birdsong and a night sky such as one rarely sees, so remote is this corner of Provence. I hope you get the message.

I was surprised about the wonderful location, the great view over the hills and mountains, the buildings, the pool, the nice rooms. The atmoshere was relaxing and I will come back definately. You can see and feel how much love and care it might have demanded to create such an environment out of old buildings somewhere in the nature of the provence. Congratulations on your engagement for your visitors in the past and present. I really appreciated my stay at "Le Vieil Aiglun".

We stayed in Gite Levant for a fortnight in September: we loved the property, location, and surrounding area. We four friends from Scotland met at the Gite and spent the next fortnight exploring the surrounding hills and towns and villages, Andy Goldsworthy art, playing petanque each evening (with or without one of the owners dog or cat monitoring us!), and swimming in THE pool with a view. Cooking facilities were excellent allowing many a convivial evening of food and wine. A pizza van with on board woodfired oven comes to the bottom of the hill on a Tuesday (at the local market): great pizzas! The property was clean and tidy upon arrival with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. It was our first time in the Haute Provence and won't be our last: we loved exploring the area and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the gite in the evenings/at night. The twisty road up to the gites is worth the effort although it does take some getting used to! Ferdinand, dog, and Cousson, cat, are gentle companions should you welcome their company. Charles and Annick are discrete but helpful hosts. There if you need them but they keep their distance should you require privacy: thanks for the amazing pears by the way! Local markets are a must as are, if you are used to hillwalking, the hikes in the locality: Cousson, Esclangon, and the Gorges de Trevans were highlights: sturdy footwear required. Charles is ever helpful with tips and maps (and even as a guide) should you require.

I was reviewing our trip in 2009 recently and for some reason I had overlooked writing a review for this wonderful place. I must say although we only stayed 1 night (in spring) and arrived late, due to a long drive from our previous accomodation, it was by far the most memorable place of our trip through France. The hosts were wonderful to deal with, very accomodating and helpful. We awoke in the morning to the sound of cuckoo birds and a magnificent 360 degree view of the French Alps atop of the little hill where Le Vieil Aiglun is poised. We had a lovely breakfast which was all part of the experience and went for a short stroll up the hill, led by the hosts extremely friendly dog. If you are looking for natural beauty, tranquility, peace and a relaxing experience, don't look any further. Hope to spend a little more time there on our next adventure.

What a splendid time we had in this place, solitary on the top of a hill, near an ancient and evocative church! Everything inside the "gite" was perfect, clean and really refined. If you like peace and unspoiled landscape, this is the perfect place. The only caution is the steep road, which can be arduous with ice and snow.

Haute Provence has the wow factor but staying in a beautiful and comfortable gite at Le Viel Aiglun makes a holiday here an unforgettable experience. The attention to detail for both comfort and style make leaving the gite difficult! The owners are attentive but discrete - nothing was too much trouble. We will return!
