We have just returned from staying in the westside woodshed and absolutely loved every minute. The woodshed is beautifully decorated and so clean, comfortable and cosy, and set in stunning scenery which we enjoyed doing different walks around. Perfect location for getting into Edinburgh but also for travelling further out to see more of beautiful Scotland. The hot tub was amazing and definitely worth the time waiting to heat up. Will be recommending Eastside Cottages to all of our friends and family, and we can't wait to come back for another stay!

Clear directions meant the accommodation was easy to find, the cottage was warm on arrival and instructions and useful information were all easily found.
The wood burning stove was a wonderful focal point as well as a source of heat, the rooms were all clean and well furnished, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped with crockery and utensils.
It was only a short walk out to the Pentland Path Network and the sheep encountered were friendly - the farm and cottages are in a lovely setting with extensive panoramic views from nearby hilltops

The only (minor) negatives were that not all local TV channels were available ( signals from English regional stations prevailed over STV) and the downstairs shower door and sealant were "tired".
Overall a lovely time was spent there and day excursions into Edinburgh were easily managed

Our stay was everything we hoped for and more. We were looking for what we call “smart luxury in a rural setting” where we could take in the essence of a working farm in Scotland without having to actually wear muck boots! In contrast, the ultra modern and brilliant design of the property and cottages, Cartshed and Wash House, where a friend and I stayed, provided the peaceful atmosphere we desired with nature surrounding us yet with all the simple luxuries needed, including sustainable and smart living features that are so important to us that we never thought we could enjoy while traveling! The modern design of our cottages made us think “Tiny Houses” but larger, high quality and a tons of light — all nestled inside what I believe was an 18th century stone building? Just amazing. We both agreed we could have lived there for months!

I can’t stress enough how extremely clean and well maintained this property is with thoughtful touches throughout. And to discover the incredibly sauna and cold plunge just down the path was a treat. Hikes right out the door with simply unbelievable views that live up to every one of those images on their website, as do the images of the cottages. There is a sense of comfort staying here that is not often found.

The proximity to some unknown treasures in surrounding towns made the trip even more special. Some of those are listed on their website. If you’re looking to find a special spot that will immerse you in Scotland without feeling any sense of tourism, despite having other guests on property nearby, this is the place! While there are so many charming and excellent eats within driving distance, we had as much fun visiting local markets and bringing our bounty back home to the cottages which were perfectly stocked with only what one would need. Side note: internet worked brilliantly as did cell phone coverage at the property. Television was thoughtfully hidden behind such a smart design, though we preferred to disconnect and take in the quiet and sounds of the sheep bleating in the distance.

As important to note, our hosts Jenny and Susan were so responsive, gracious and respectful of guest privacy. We enjoyed the now and then glimpses of farm and family life on the property while at the same time having complete privacy and no expectations to interact. One really feels transported back in time or to the country despite being less than an hour away from Edinburgh and just minutes to local shops. We not only have recommended this to others but hope to return ourselves soon! Thank you for sharing this special property with others!

The whole stay/experience was amazing.
The Steading cottage where we stayed was spotless and inviting when we first arrived which was a wonderful first impression.
The kitchen was equipped with everything you need for cooking, meals and drinks.
The beds were very comfortable.
We loved the wood burning stove and there was plenty of dry wood to top it up.
The owners were very pleasant and didn't intrude on our stay but always there if needed.
The wood fired yurt sauna was incredible. All organised in time for our booked slot. The sauna was a very welcome part of our stay and was a first for us.
The countryside surrounding the cottages was amazing.
All in all a wonderful memorable experience.

We had a week stay at the Byre at Eastside just a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it! Our 5 year old son said it was his best holiday ever, better even than Disneyland! The setting is just perfect. There are horses, chickens, sheep. Jenny was amazing with our son and he got to feed the horses and stroke the chickens. He also watched her as she checked the sheep’s eyes and she explained to him what she was doing. You just have to step out your door and there are magnificent views. The Kips are on the doorstep for high level walking with wonderful views across the Pentland Hills. You really couldn’t ask for a better location. The cottage itself was lovely and exceptionally clean. The log burner made it cosy in the evening and just outside the cottage was a fire pit which was great for toasting marshmallows! In the morning we just looked out our window and saw the sheep. It was absolutely brilliant and we can’t wait to return!

Wow better than Disney land is high praise indeed! Thank you so much for your lovely review, we are so glad you enjoyed our menagerie of animals including the rather bad tempered chickens! Please come back sometime, the horses will be awaiting their number 1 helper. Xx

We stayed at the Byre Cottage for a week. It was my daughters 21st Birthday so wanted it to be special and it didn’t disappoint. The cottage was beautiful with every possible need catered for. There was lots of snow and it was very cold but the cottage was lovely and warm and the log burning stove made us want to just cosy by the fire and read. You can see the beautiful landscape from all windows from the cottage and this was enhanced by the thick covering of snow which enticed us to use the sledges provided. The hosts couldn’t have been more helpful, ensuring we had everything we needed and even ringing us when we were out to give us advice following snow fall. It was one of our most magical holidays and would love to return for another visit in the future.

Wonderous location with beautiful walks right out of the farm, right up to the highest point in the Pentlands - stunning blowy views. Our 2 dogs and our children, based in Edinburgh and visiting us a few times, loved it. Beautiful well designed and equipped cottage. The sauna, which we had not considered at all before staying, was a real asset - we used it twice - comfortable, plenty hot enough, and with the nice ritual of feeding your own wood. Owners unobtrusive but friendly and welcoming. Charge points for electric cars. Just the sounds of the countryside.

This was third time we stayed at Eastside Steading for Christmas and it was as wonderful as ever. The remote setting is just perfect for us and the hill walking readily available. We have nothing but praise for the location and Jenny/Susan looked after us very well. The only challenge is the one mile access track but we managed with our small car by just taking it very slowly! Penicuik taxis will pick directly from the door which was perfect for our Boxing Day trip to the Dome (also highly recommended).

The April weather was a bit grim but that can't be helped and it didn't matter! Even staying inside here is relaxing and calming.

Half an hour into Edinburgh for some rainy day activities with the kids, ten minutes from a Tesco to stock up on treats yet pretty much on a farm in the middle of nowhere.

Some lovely walks just outside your front door so you could easily dodge the rain showers and this time, clouds aside, a perfect spot to maybe catch the Northern Lights.
