We spent a very relaxing and sociable 5 days here followed by a stay in Granada. Emma & David were warm, hospitable and knowledgeable hosts, the Andalucian-inspired food was delicious, the mountain walking and views were outstanding. The rooms and communal spaces are comfortable, very clean and authentically decorated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to my friends and family and would love to return - perhaps on one of their cookery or yoga courses

Stayed at Las Chimeneas as ther last leg of a week long tour, hosted by David and Emma Illsley. We visted Seville, Cordoba and Granada to experience the history, culture, tapas and fine wines. The last 3 nights were at the splendid Las Chimeneas. Each day David or Emma took us on escorted walks into the hills or nearby white washed villages. We stayed in snug, comfortable converted Spanish village cottages and dined every evening at their outstanding restaurant. It was a wonderful week and can't recommend it highly enough. Vist before the sectret gets out!

I stayed in the studio. A beautifully cool living room during hot days, with a small kitchen and bedroom above. Stunning views over the valley from the rooftop terrace leading from the bedroom. Spacious, airy, clean, and a very comfy bed. The food did not disappoint and so I was there for every meal to join the convivial atmosphere and enjoy the delicious cooking with amazing fresh ingredients often from their own organic farm.
My room was cleaned every day and I was always well catered for and made to feel extremely welcome.
On walks, recent rains meant the wildflowers were out. Emma and David's thoughtful and knowledgeable recommendations for local walks were tailored to individuals. Some routes easier to follow than others but I had no trouble, I was hiking on my own, and always enjoyed the little adventures.
Since I got home my friends and colleagues have said I'm not the same: relaxed, smiling. This is truly a wonderful place to visit.

We stayed as a group at Las Chimeneas for four nights at the conclusion of a great week visiting Seville, Cordoba and Grenada. The peaceful and friendly village surroundings of Mairena would be hard to beat, with Las Chimeneas' rooms within easy distances from the main hotel. Our room was comfortable and well equipped, and included separate kitchen and seating space if needed for relaxation, but the highlight was always the excellent and innovative food served by friendly and cheerful staff and enjoyed with a wide range of quality affordable wines. David and Emma are superb hosts with deep knowledge of the region, its history and the people, all of which they are always happy to share. We learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the excellent walking in the area. Highly recommended.

I went on a baking week here and was so disappointed with the accommodation. I was really cold the whole time.Reading the other reviews it is hard to believe I went to the same place.
I was in a small cottage (with another guest ) which they said had just been renovated but it was really not ready for visitors. There was almost no heating in the sitting room unless you managed to light and constantly feed a wood stove. The bedroom was tiny and had hot air heating which only worked intermittently. They did bring me a portable heater but it was not very effective. I was wearing 2 jumpers and a jacket indoors all the time. The en-suite shower water went everywhere and the toilet was uncomfortably close to the bed with only a plank of wood as a door. There was not internet in the cottage unless you stood right up against the window. The cottage was not cleaned at all during my stay.
The common room in the main house was also v cold despite a log fire and also made it difficult to get the bread to rise.
This was such a shame because the actual baking lessons run by E5 of Hackney were fine and the evening meals were lovely.
I found the walking too challenging and would have liked much more information about the level of difficulty in advance.
I did catch covid on day 5 which was not the fault of the hotel but did make my visit even more uncomfortable.

We very much enjoyed our tour of Seville, Cordoba and Granada (run once a year by Las Chimeneas), there were 17 in our group. The last four nights of the week were spent at Las Chimeneas, what a lovely place. A very peaceful village with great views. Our accommodation was in a cottage in the village a short walk from the main house, but we had access to a shared lounge and patio. The food was excellent - a choice of three starters/main course/deserts - but everything was absolutely delicious, really good home cooking by local staff. One day we had a walk to the next village and a fantastic paella was cooked for lunch in an outdoor kitchen in a lovely garden there. David and Emma are great hosts, very knowledgeable and entertaining. A really memorable week, I’m sure we will return.

We only stayed for 1 night, but could have well stayed here for a month or two. Very tastefully decorated spaces, traditional, cozy, details being looked after, etc. It is really rare to find a hotel with this much character. It makes you feel like you are part of the village, but with enough space for privacy. The views were stunning. David and Emma brilliant hosts. The food was very impressive. We had a vegetarian dinner delivered to our room/house due to Covid restrictions and this worked out really well. We hope to be back at some stage for that 1 month stay!

We’d always wanted to take our motorbike up into the winding roads of the Alpujarras, and found Las Chimeneas by chance on-line. Very glad we did as, although we arrived somewhat damp after the first rains of the autumn, we were given a wonderfully hospitable welcome, followed by a fabulous dinner washed down with some great local wine.
David and Emma are brilliant hosts. We will certainly be back.

I was lucky to spend a week relaxing here. The owners go the extra mile to welcome guests and share their expert knowledge of the region and cuisine. Food was delicious and healthy.
Transfer from Malaga is lengthy (2.5 hours) and winding to get into mountains, but as a result, the village is authentic and traditional.
Breathtaking sunrises and walks in the hills.
I've come home rejuvenated and relaxed - a true break from the stresses and strains of everyday life.

A beautiful property in the heart of the village owned and run by Emma and David Illsley. Many local walks radiate out into the mountains with Almond, Cherry and Mulberry trees amongst the vines. Their cuisine is excellent and based on the locality and everyone there loves what they are doing.
