The Slaughters Country Inn captivates guests with its picturesque grounds and quintessential Cotswolds charm, often chosen for its scenic location ideal for exploring. While the cleanliness and amenities, including a cozy bar and quality dining, earn praise, some guests have expressed concerns over value, citing overpriced offerings and rooms that fall short of expectations.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed for two nights and had a very enjoyable time. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, Our room was over the bar in the original Inn but there was no noise, only the creaking old floors!. It was well appointed with a comfortable king size bed, large TV with a wide selection of channels and tea and coffee making facilities. The outstanding feature of the room was a standalone bath overlooking the green, there was also a rain shower in the bathroom. The Inn is a ideal location for explpring the Cotswolds and there is a pleasant 25 minute walk in to Borton-on-the-Water,

A perfect choice for our family re-union get together! We were lucky to have chosen a date months ago and find that this hotel has recently re-opened after the enforced closure. New measures to ensure hygiene and health standards, were clear but unobtrusive, with staff working hard to make us confident and relaxed. The garden is superb for dining in fresh air and offers great play space for old and young alike. The Sunday lunch sandwich selection was disappointing compared to the main menu sandwich choices, and the beef was very tough to digest, though tasty.
Our room was spacious and comfortable, but a word of warning about staying on the ground floor of the recently built wings - the sound proofing from the first floor is not good and people moving about above us was obtrusive. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spotlessly clean.
Staying on a DBB basis, we were impressed to find a VAT reduction had been applied to our account, there were no menu supplements for dishes such as the Steak and the menu choice was extensive. The quality of the food served was excellent and the portion size plentiful. Our party of eight found the soup delicious, the pork pie very tasty, served with a great sauce, and the chicken caesar salad starter huge. The main course were equally impressive, with the Hake and Steak earning top ratings. Few of our party could manage desserts, but he raspberry sorbet and sticky toffee pudding were enjoyed.
Breakfast has had to be changed from buffet to table service, and this must be a challenge for the kitchen: it is one that they are meeting with great success and from a guest point of view it means that you get freshly prepared rather than tired food that has been on a hot plate. The breakfast menu was imaginative and extensive with the Arnold Bennett omelette being a personal favourite. The staff dealt well with personal tweaks to the menu and we left fully replete after a great stay at this lovely Country Inn: I would not be surprised to find that we return!!

Booked this hotel as a surprise for my wife on our wedding anniversary . A couple of friends joined us after a day out in nearby Bourton on the water. We arrived mid afternoon and were warmly welcomed by two ladies in reception , who escorted us to our rooms. Lovely comfortable rooms , huge beds , very nice bathroom with bath and walk in shower . Had a couple of drinks in the bar which was very clean , unpretentious and had a log fire burning . If you are tall watch out for the low beams. Evening meal was faultless , the waiter even brought out a board with an iced "happy anniversary " and sweets. If I were to be fussy I might say the menu could have had a bit more choice. The Inn has two rosettes and its sister Manor House across the road has three rosettes.
Breakfast was a choice of standard english fare or vast selection of continental . Food presentation was great and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, all of whom were a credit to their employer . Well tended gardens and very large grounds complemented this very , very nice INN/Hotel and we would definitely stay here again.

We visited during the Covid-19 pandemic so expected things would be a bit unusual and we were happy to make allowances.
We had a lovely room and the social distancing measures made us feel very safe but dinner and breakfast were distinctly underwhelming. The amended menu and the quality of food in the restaurant, left a lot to be desired. The choices were pretty basic pub options at inflated prices and everything was really salty. At breakfast, the ‘toast’ didn’t look like it had been anywhere near a toaster and was stone cold, the bacon was tough and the English muffin was so well done that it completely dominated the rest of the Eggs Benedict.
The Inn is perfectly located for a walk into Bourton on the Water and the public areas and grounds are well maintained, but with so many options available in the Cotswolds, we won’t be rushing back.

Location fantastic, staff friendly and professional, room great but food disappointing.
We had a cottage room (effectively a two story suite) which was perfect for our needs, very quiet and away from the main hotel building (which suited us given Covid concerns).
However, food experience was disappointing, both in the main restaurant and room service. At dinner, had to send one main course back (in fairness there was no argument on that from the staff, who were very professional). Room service breakfast portions not generous, and on both occasions we had to ring back to get the original order completed.

There are two possible reasons:
1/ Local management is inept, cannot manage their staffing budget or recruit and keep the right people
2/ Local management is not provided with the budget, resources and help needed to recruit, train and keep good staff
I strongly suspect the latter and I will try and ensure this is communicated to Andrew Broadsword Hotels group leadership.
This could be a stupidly long review so I’m going to generalise rather than discuss specific incidents. The main problem was restaurant and bar service – everything takes an age and very little was correct. When the right food arrived, it was often cold or as was the case for one breakfast, so inedible I had to spit out my bacon.
The place was incredibly busy the four days we were there. One day we arrived back from our walk at around 15:00 and the bar was covered in dirty glasses. Tables were not cleared of empty plates and glasses, and the staff were rude. I do not blame them and suspect that if it wasn’t for the current situation with the hospitality trade, they would all be off elsewhere. Tellingly, the company website shows just one vacancy for front of house and one for a chef. This is not enough of a shortfall to create what I witnessed, so it is not going to get better.
This company is without doubt focused on the bottom line only and greedily trying to recover lost income.
Other stuff:
I don’t normally call out cost but we paid £365 specifically for a ground floor suit with private outside space. It was not well kept and the furniture was dirty. The room was nice but dirty in places. Bath robes might have been nice. Get your WiFi working – thick walls is not an excuse – spend money or state it is flaky in your marketing.
We paid an extra £35 per head, per night for an evening meal for three nights. On the Wed they were fully booked. I suspect I found out why when a wedding party arrived – guests staying four nights had to suffer to accommodate them? The menu was a bar a dull bar menu and you could easily not spend the £35 (for transparency, we did). The food was not good bordering on inedible in the case of a chicken Caesar salad.
When we checked out and were asked whether we enjoyed the stay and replied no, the receptionist responded appropriately then went on to tell us about her terrible stay in a Hilton. I don’t care – I don’t work for Hilton.

My husband and parents stayed for a family reunion last night and I can firmly say I was bitterly disappointed.
To give some context I’m 6 months pregnant and had come away to see my parents and have a lovely weekend away.
The meal I was served for supper could have passed for a child’s meal, it was pathetically small and for £26, a total joke! 2 rosettes my arse! When I asked if I could get some more wild rice they brought it out in this butter dish which was about 2 tsp of rice!
I went to bed hungry and thankfully had a yoghurt and some nuts with me to keep me going. However at half 11 I was starving and I just didn’t know what to do. I rang up the reception, no reply. I rang up room service and this man answered telling me there was no room service. I asked if there was nothing he could do for me and he said no. I persisted and said I was pregnant and surely he could offer me some cereal or toast. He reluctantly said I could come to the kitchen and ‘see what he could do’. I was given a little jug of milk and some cereal he brought our two slices of bread. He looked at me in a funny way and said, ‘oh well i’ll eat that then’. I asked for toast and he then brought out some toast. He had the total cheek to say ‘he wouldn’t charge me’ and that as a country inn ‘they didn’t do room service’. I replied saying that’s pretty poor given that the price of the room per night is £200!!!
I felt so pissed off and I mean it felt like he just couldn’t even be bothered. Honestly crap customer service.
For any one looking to come here, come prepared and make sure you have food with you. It’s certainly NO COMFORT IN, more like a starvation inn!!! Prepare to be hungry!
I have never written a complaint before on trip advisor but I feel the management need to be made aware of this, especially given I’m pregnant.
If you don’t offer food service that should be noted in the information given in the room. And as for customer service the man who dealt with me should be properly trained re customer service.

Dear StephMark2929, Unfortunately we do not offer room service outside our dining times which is clearly stated within all room folders within every room, however we will always do everything we can for all requests. Our night porter very kindly did offer you what he could, our night porters are not trained to cook anything therefore this was a choice of cereal, toast or a sandwich. I am sorry to hear you felt the portion sizes we offer were not as big as you expected, we have not had any negative feedback regarding our portion sizes however I did ensure this was fed back to our head chef so he is now aware of your feedback, I am pleased that when you mentioned this to the team on the evening they were happy to provide you with more rice, and should you of asked for more this would of also been provided. I am also happy we were able to provide you with a complimentary late check out on the day of departure and also that our chefs were happy to cook you breakfast at midday which I do hope you enjoyed. I do hope you decide to give us another chance in the future and come and visit us once more Kind regards Steve

We stayed over two nights in the Mustians room . The bed was really comfortable and the room light and airy . Enjoyed our stay despite kitchen having difficulties due to broken equipment.
However we would not stay in the room again or near it due to stairs that need repair outside the room . The noise from people using them to access their rooms was not good ( very loud creaking and cracking noises ) . I am sure a good carpenter could repair or replace to ensure the occupants of the rooms were undisturbed .
Did report it to reception . She said it has been mentioned before ????

Given all that has gone on this year the hotel is still getting back up to speed so can understand some things not being up to their normal standard. There is a reduced menu which we were able to choose something from but I would give the pork pie starter a miss as it basically is a small pork pie cut into four with some sauce! Accepted that it was one of the hottest days of the year the rear garden/patio was fairly busy with residents and non residents and at one stage the bar had to stop serving drinks as they had no pint glasses left. The two rooms we had were large and comfortable and overall the staff were friendly. Issues apart it wouldn't stop me coming back again.

A nice hotel that needs to up its game to justify its prices. Although during Covid, demand probably allows them to price higher. Lots of niggly things, not least of all their lack of covid precautions e.g. tables not wiped down between customers, toilets not checked during the day (evidenced by 4 empty loo rolls in each cubicle each evening), we watched 4 staff walk past a discarded mask outside the hotel (it was still there on day 3), no masks by staff and visors were pushed up so of no use whatsoever. Food was good although only really “pub grub” was available. Service was patchy. (And I didn’t really appreciate being called “darling”! 🤣 ).
Generally, a lack of management around to make sure the little things got done (e.g. picking up napkins off the floor). Shame because there’s great potential but the little things will discourage repeat visits. Great location though!

No. You don’t need to wear face masks but can if you want. Most didn’t during our brief stay.
I can’t recall which is bad as my son’s vegan and I like to recommend places to him. Check with them direct as menus change.
Strongly recommend though.
