Situated in one of England’s prettiest villages, The Slaughters Manor House is a beautiful 17th Century manor house which combines contemporary interiors with country charm, attentive service and one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the Cotswolds. Spring 2016 saw the entire ground floor renovated to restore the character of the building, exposing and emphasising architectural details contrasted with a modern, vibrant interior design.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel is a wonderful Cotswolds Manor House in the fabulous unspoilt villages of the Slaughters. The hotel has been very tastefully restored and appointed. The staff on the whole tried their best to be helpful, responsive and friendly. However, I think the hotel maybe understaffed as many are following Brexit. Therefore, the service was slow, waiting fir example 15 mins for two glasses of wine and for getting breakfast menus. Also, for me the food was good but definitely not worth the cost. Also I had a chicken burger that was too tough to eat. Pity. As a tip, if you are a light sleeper don’t get one of the back facing bedrooms over the kitchen extractor fans etc

We stayed for just one night as Mother and daughters along with our chihuahua dogs. Beautiful setting and immaculately kept grounds. Quality property with charm. Alternative artwork which is rather to individual taste, would prefer more of the occasional traditional oils that have been retained personally. Staff exceptionally helpful as you would expect in this price bracket. Talking of which, you need a big purse to stay here. Housekeeping a bit sloppy in one of the bedrooms but resolved with immediate effect. Food absolutely faultless.

We just spent a week in the Cotswolds and it would be last on our list for dining. We had a group looking for a place to gather, and from booking to billing to dining, they were incredibly difficult. From staff to food to facility it all seems arrogant, stuffy and unaccommodating. There are lots of great places in the Cotswolds, I would skip this one.

Room Tip: Read the dining contract carefully if you have a group. Very unaccommodating.

A lovely relaxing afternoon tea in the pretty village of Lower Slaughter. Staff were helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed a Full Afternoon Tea with a good selection of sandwiches, a tempting array of dainty cakes and large freshly baked scones with ample clotted cream and jam.

Passed by The Manor House while at Lower Slaughter when we visited Cotswold on a weekday afternoon. The 17th century manor house has been transformed into a stunning hotel, with a well kept grounds. The building is simple in design but simply beautiful.

We didn’t stay there we stayed at it’s sister hotel but we dined there one evening. The setting is really stunning, the photos probably don’t do it justice and the staff were lovely, very attentive. However, the meal was overpriced and not up to the standard of the hotel, which is a shame as it could have been amazing. The food is very good but I would expect excellent in such a beautiful hotel. We also felt that, even though it was fine dining, that the portions were a tad small. Try the cocktails they are amazing.

After seeing the Manor on a previous trip to the Cotswolds, I dreamed of staying there someday. That day came in 2023 and it did not disappoint. From the beautiful grounds and Manor house itself to the large and comfortable bedrooms and incredible staff, it has everything one could want to make your stay a memorable one. Lower Slaughter is so quaint and a great place to base yourself while touring other villages near by. Bourton-on-the-Water is just 8 minutes away and Upper Slaughter is walkable or just a few minutes drive as well..

I would definitely recommend staying in this hotel though expect a few relatively minor issues and quirks. The staff was friendly, the rooms are very nice, and the location is hard to beat...but I wouldn't recommend the 85 pound dinner.

Stayed in the Beech room. Very spacious, full of character and well equipped. Breakfast was excellent but for the evening meal we found the sister hotel across the road (Country Inn) which is part of the same group had more choice on the menu and better for us. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lower Slaughter is one of the prettiest Cotswold villages so do have a wander round and see the Old Mill.

Disappointed to find the garden was NOT open, we think due to previous security issues. Decided we wouldn't waste this visit so were eventually able to order coffee outside on the lovely front lawn. At time of paying we were shocked to receive a bill of £7.50p each for coffee plus 12.5% service charge which we felt was rather excessive which didn't even include a biscuit!!
