We booked for 7 but stayed for 9 days we enjoyed ourselves so much. This strip of the island has the calmest water. We could swim right off the beach front. This was the best coral we have ever experienced. The all inclusive meals were particularly excellent. The island got a 24 hour generator which made our lives easier with lights and wifi. Their beer and pop fridge never worked properly so it was always warm. That said some cabins only have a fan and could get quite warm. January is their rainy season but it only rained 3 times at night...funny their was hardly any mosquitoes. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The property, rooms and dining area were always clean and tidy. They are in the process of moving the kitchen and dining area down by the beach. I would strongly recommend this place

I am Australian and over the years have been to many places on the Barrier Reef, however I have to say that I was very impressed with Bunaken Island and the diversity of corals and fish here. Being at Bunaken Beach Resort was the icing on the cake. The reef in front of the resort was clean and only a short swim out from the beach. Erny, the owner is so sweet and accomodating and provides three meals a day. The staff were friendly and happy and the whole experience was positive. It is a beautiful laid back vibe here on the island and I would recommend coming before the secret gets out!

The hotel is in a good location, a short walk out of the village which makes it a bit quieter and has its own small beach. The room was a bit dated and could have done with a good clean, and we stayed for 4 nights and our bed wasn’t made or towels changed, by this is reflected in the price compared to other resorts on the island. The food was absolutely fantastic, we didn’t have the same meal once in the entire time we were there (apart from breakfast). Meals are served at set times which were a little early for us but that is just personal preference. There were always fresh eggs however you liked them and fresh pancakes at breakfast, and a variety of different local food served at lunch and dinner. Food was served buffet style but there was always more than enough to go around and they were very accommodating that I am a vegetarian and would make me extra eggs at meal times when they were serving meat. There is a private boat offered from manado to the resort for 100k rupiah or you can get the private boat on the island for 50k rupiah. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and it is also possible to pay for your stay on credit card with an extra charge of 3% even though on booking.com it says cash only.

My wife and I spent 5 nights at BBR beginning Aug 2018. Some good points: located very close to a good bar with live music and good atmosphere, can snorkel from hotel (but need to swim 230m), some staff are very nice and smiley. But: Room: room is ok but no mosquito net, we were bitten a lot. Bathroom was a swimming pool as water evacuation was blocked (I noticed them but the problem was not fixed during 5 days). Food: cook was good and very friendly and helpful but we ate mainly veggies at lunch when everybody is hungry after diving. It's a fact: all guest were surprised and complained about the food (not the staff!) Diving: not good at all. Instructor and dive master were not nice at all and didn't give any information before diving about the place to go, equipment, environment etc... Atmosphere was really bad. We came from so far to meet this... ;( Equipment was old and really not safe: at least 1 BCD had a air leak, I noticed it and refused to use it. The day after they proposed it to my wife! I said NO again. Another tourist used it and said she was always moving up when diving, and her air was used much faster than other divers... so unsafe. A bottle separated from BCD during diving! I noticed it to dive master who immediately fixed it. My wife used to be afraid in deep blue and is not comfortable in water, although she had already dived. With BBR she cancelled her diving once in water because of BAD instruction and UNSAFE feeling. Snorkelling: Once again no information about where to go and about the strong current: my wife was pulled away hundreds of meters far from the boat and was so afraid and yelled at them to come to help. Our mood and feeling were just killed, while visiting this fantastic place... what a pity. CONCLUSION: our trip would have been much better if we went to another place ;(. For a better sleeping, eating, atmosphere and much better diving and snorkelling, please go to another place with real certified instructors. I guess the 4 and 5 star reviews come from visitors who loved Bunaken island and its incredible coral, not loved BBR and its divers, it's impossible.

The staff and location were perfect for our 3 day dive tour. 3 nights and 3 meals a day cost around $60 USD. Yes, $20/day. Your on the water with quick access to some of the best reef diving in the world.

The staff is very welcoming. The premises are kept clean daily. Food is good, and the bungalows are charming. Need to ask for Indonesian-level spicy food if you want to eat like a local, otherwise almost no chilies...

Stayed here several nights during the new year of 2017. BBR has a great location a short walk from the village. A nice quite location with a mangrovebeach. Close to BBR is the only "bar" on Bunaken... the Deco Stop. The good: The location, the owners and staff, the food, the garden, the area close to the beach. The not that great: As I am kind of warm the lack of working AC was a bit annoying but I managed with some open windows (almost no mosquitos). The rooms are simple... not dirty but very basic. If I go back to Bunaken I would stay here again.

We spent several days here at this hotel and have come away with mixed feelings. Now, since I relied on the reviews I read and believe some of them were a bit over-the-top, I will add my own experience here: which is that the hotel might disappoint many. For those not interested in diving, Bunaken island is probably in general not the ideal island anyway. So, here it goes: Location – about 15 mins. on foot from main village, mostly through a sort of jungle road (there’s not much there to find, but there are some basic convenience stores as well as a cafe/restaurant). The road is mostly paved, but there are still some muddy parts which are unpleasant when it rains. After it gets dark (around 6:30-7pm), you walk mostly in the dark – but I don’t think there’s any question of safety. The hotel is partly on the beach (the reception area and the two seaview bungalows and the other part (restaurant and other rooms) on the other side of the narrow road. Beach: The hotel is one of the few on this side of the island that offers a beach. However, the beach is neglected, fringed by litter and discarded items. The sea looks beautiful but when you go in, you discover the sand is murky, the seabed covered by seaweed and the water is shallow. It is true, there is a beautiful coral reef at this beach – the thing is that this coral reef cannot be accessed for many hours. The reason is that during low tide (which during our stay was somewhere between 10 am and 4 pm), the water is so shallow you cannot swim to the reef and that if you walk, you step on star fish and fresh corals (which you obviously don’t want to do). Furthermore, around 3 pm, the sea water starts to be covered with grimy, gray-brownish bubbles apparently coming from the main village and I wonder whether there’s not some sewage collector being released daily. Arrival: the hotel offers transfer from the mainland, but at a high price (400.000 IDR for two people, one way). You can go to the Manado jetty and see if you can share a ride with a boat already transferring people to Bunaken (we found a ride for 200.000 IDR for two). Just make sure to ask whether the boat docks close to Bunaken beach hotel. On the return, you can pop into other hotels and ask if anyone is leaving and willing to share (that way, we found a ride for 300.000 IDR). Check in: went smoothly, but consisted only of taking us to our room, without any further information (for instance, about meal times, diving prices, hotel policies, or the island). Room: we expected basic, but this was more than basic. • No electricity during the day, so also no fan – and the room turns incredibly hot. The AC in the room did not work. • No hot water (ok, and the water is salty). • Most windows had glass and a mosquito net, but the glass was broken at one and the net had holes. • Above one window in the room and in the bathroom, there are openings in the wall and NO glass and NO mosquito nets! I get that these are for better ventilation, but on a tropical island, you do get creepy-crawly visitors marching/crawling/ flying into the room through these openings during the night. • Sink in the bathroom was dripping throughout our stay. We informed staff, but they ignored us. Luckily there was a bucket available and we placed it under the sink. • Drainage in bath was blocked and water kept flooding the bathroom when we took a shower. Again, we informed staff, and nothing was done. • When staff entered the room to clean, they placed the broom they had used to swipe the floor on the fresh sheets. • Internet did usually not work at the designated are & time. • No toiletries provided, only one towel per person (though we did ask for more). Our seaview bungalow was also wall-to-wall with the next door hotel, so there was quite some noise from there. The owner was very sweet, but needs to understand that sweetness alone is not sufficient. The rooms need to be refurbished, the grounds on the side of the beach need to be cleaned. Meals: 3 meals are included. Meal times were 7:30, 12:30 and 6:30, but you could inform them you would be late and they usually set aside food (only one time, when the hotel was full, did we arrive around 7:30 for dinner and find only some pieces of food left). Breakfast was a bit basic (toast with butter and jam, plus pancakes), but overall, the meals were tasty, buffet style with around 4 different dishes offered (vegetarian meals made upon prior request). At lunch, a glass of fresh fruit juice was served. Hot water as well as coffee/tea sachets were available and complimentary throughout the day. Too bad there were no ice cubes though. Bar: the hotel did not have a bar – it just had some beers in the fridge, from what I saw. However, there is a nice bar right next to the hotel, which might serve only warm beer and some basic drinks, but it has a great atmosphere (and keep in mind that dinner ends the latest around 8 and then there’s not much to do – and there’s no TV around!). Dining area: has to be access via stairs. Unfortunately, only one large communal table on the balcony – so often, you need to sit inside where it is stuffy and the lighting is awful. Outside though, there were many bugs in the evening. Staff: Most were friendly, the owner was very sweet, but most also did not speak any English, which made communication difficult. Diving: I didn’t dive, but my partner did and he used the dive school of the hotel. Prices were good and the dive master was also very good. However, it takes some time to find someone in the dive shop – and since we couldn’t find anyone on the first day, my partner went to another dive school on the second day. Overall, Bunaken Beach is basic value for money as the hotel is quite basic and neglected, but also as the island itself is quite isolated and not a party island that can excuse high hotel prices (about 45 E/night). Manado is furthermore not that far away to be a reason for high transportation costs. I really wish I could write a better review, because our time on the island was lovely - but I also believe the hotel needs to realize that it needs to start fixing things when they break and not to just allow the hotel to gradually fall into a state of neglect.

It's located on the eastern part of the island with good coral view in front of the resort. But Bunaken is surrounded by Mangrove plantation so you have to swim about 100meter away from the beach to make sure you get to the coral part (and not the seagrass). Sometimes, if one is very very lucky, they get to see the manatee grazing through the seagrass (but not everyone is lucky though. I don't). There's a lot of orange starfish in the seagrass part. So if you're brave enough to go with at least 2 people to the coral part, it's actually a nice place to go. Don't snorkel by yourself as there's a bit of current and you can be drifting away from your original location if you're too excited looking underwater. The room is decent and considering you have 3 meals, it's actually cheap enough. Not the best of course, but not the worst. I stayed in the place with park view. Bring a mosquito repellent. The restaurant is located a bit high so there's no mosquito there. The relaxing part is by the beach where there's internet ( I didn't use it). The electricity is off in the afternoon sometimes but it happens across the island. The place doesn't have generator from what I can tell. They provide you with towel but not toiletries so bring your own. The floor is somehow always sticky-an impact of seawater I guess. When I checked in, they don't have a mat in front of the bathroom making it difficult. But a simple request and problem's solved. I went diving in Bunaken but didn't go with the guy here. I know that the dive masters are very friendly and their dive trips are cheaper compared to the 2FishDivers (the 5 star PADI dive center) that I went with. It's about 350k IDR cheaper - which would make it a big deal if you go on a week dive. You could also jump on their boat for 50k for snorkeling while the others are diving. Of course if there are dive trips that day. Do ask. Breakfast is ready at 7.30am, lunch at 12.30 and dinner at 7.30 pm. It seems like all resort provide food this way because there is no restaurant nearby. you eat where you stay.

We were excited to get to Bunaken and start diving. We arrived and settled into our simple room then went looking around for the dive shop. It doesn't really exist. There was a room that had bits and pieces of gear but no one sits in there to answer questions or help you with anything. When we went diving, I got the small bcd they had and my partner who is the same size had to wear one that was way too big (she got the small one another day and I got the big one). When I got in the water, I could hear air coming out of my tank. They replaced the o-ring quickly and off we went but I noticed bubbles coming out of a few tanks over my seven dives here. Of those seven dives (and of the 57 or so sites at Bunaken), we did one site 3 times, another site twice then two different sites. We paid about 63 euros per dive so when we pulled up to Siladen for the third time, I was annoyed. It might have been for the snorkellers on board but I didn't need to spend that much money to dive it a third time. The divemasters and captain had completely limited English skills so it was difficult to talk with them. I really felt let down about this experience because the staff and owner were very friendly: there was just a huge communication barrier and no one really managing the dive operations. The hotel was pleasant and the food was good. There are some older rooms that require some work but you can ask for a garden room or one near the water as they are newer. I would say stay here but dive down the road at Two Fish if this resort hasn't improved their dive shop. I write this with mixed feelings because the owner is really sweet and works hard at trying to please her guests.
