Absolutely stunning hotel. Friendly, warm and relaxing. Staff are professional and the food was delicious. Definitely would advise anyone to visit if they are passing through the area. Excellent private car park despite the business of the village. Gorgeous

Hotel's Favourite
We booked a getaway base here to go down memory lane visiting places and schools of my youth (many years ago) around Durham and Yorkshire, and we had just the most amazing and memorable time staying in this substantial character hotel standing proudly looking over the green. Our room Eskelleth was huge, wonderfully warm with a really cosy feel about it, bed just perfect with great mattress, crisply laundered linen attended to daily by friendly housekeeping with teas and coffees replenished we couldn’t have wanted for more. Food menus were exceptional and more than sufficient from the fullest English breakfast if you wanted it (the sausages were my favourite) to very expertly cooked and prepared early bird menus and evening dinners all I can say is they have quite a chef there – very skilled especially after the Baileys mouse – I was sold and sitting in the lounge chatting with some lovely fellow travellers afterwards in front of a crackling open fire with a 15 year old malt in hand I thought ‘it just doesn’t get better than this’. The management team were on the top of their game here who couldn’t have done more for us with Julie making that very special difference you seldom find today – she cared and the early shift gent carrying my case out to the car when we left over the snow-covered private car park when he saw me struggling made such a small gesture but very significant difference – thank you. This was a quality place and location with the hallmarks of solid customer care stamped all over and was quintessentially Yorkshire which was silent at night with very star-spangled ink-black skies – the likes of which I haven’t seen for many years – we loved it. Could this have been one of the best short breaks my wife and I have ever had – I think so. Linda and Roland

This smart hotel purports to be top notch in a really beautiful position in this pretty North Yorkshire village . It has been recently refurbished , disappointingly it doesn’t deliver due to sloppy & poorly trained staff . Although friendly they don’t understand how to look after guests, they gather round the bar chatting unaware of guests needs no one appeared to be overseeing the restaurant, this could /should be so much better for the price . We won’t be returning .

Arriving in the pretty village of Reeth is like a glimpse back in time. Beautiful old houses, shops and pubs surround the large village green. Taking pride of position is The Burgoyne. As soon as we walked into the hotel we were warmly greeted by Courtney who showed us around and to our room on the top floor. The views over the village and hills are stunning. The room itself was so comfortable and clean with everything you could need. We chose the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast option for two nights and so glad we did. We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in the lounge served by Cody. A beautiful comfy room with squidgy sofas and great décor. Chatted to a lovely couple who had already eaten, they were staying elsewhere in Reeth but had wished they were staying at The Burgoyne as a similar price but, they felt, far superior accommodation and food. Dinner was cooked by Chef Tom who totally wowed me with his vegan offerings for both nights. Celeriac velouté and Cauliflower steaks in particular were absolutely delicious. Husband had fish both nights and again thoroughly enjoyed his meals. The dining room is a relaxed affair so no need to dress to the nines – unless you want to. At breakfast we were looked after by Ann Marie, again exceptional service and great to have a chat. There is plenty of choice and the full English (vegan & veggie) were very tasty. Also some of the nicest coffee I’ve had in a long time. This hotel is really exceptional, comfortable and stylish with great customer service. It’s clearly popular with walkers, there are some circular walks but it’s also on the Coast to Coast walk. Simon the manager and Georgia assistant manager were both very professional but friendly and helpful. Apparently the hotel is due a refurb shortly which I hope won’t change the wonderful atmosphere and service. We are already looking at a pre Xmas visit.

The Burgoyne is often missed as a bit expensive, but can be a haven of peace and quality. Morning, coffee either on the lawn or in the lounge is very relaxing and the view's across the dale are gorgeous. Lunch, they do a great sarni and drink for a tenner, again lovely service and location. Evening, early bird menu in the 'bar' or on the lawn is good value. But what we enjoy is finishing our evening off with their cheeseboard with wine in the comfy lounge. Fab!! Thanks to all the staff👍

We will never stay or eat in this place again. The food was average, expensive for what it was and mainly badly cooked (for example; slimy pork terrine starter, tasteless fish on fashionably squashed boiled potatoes, over torched and burnt meringue tart). The breakfasts were especially bad (my seven year old grandson can cook scrambled or poached eggs better, it was so poor that I had to get a filled roll from the local excellent baker shop afterwards). The room and bathroom were not ‘Luxury’ as described (the bathrobes had torn ties so could not be tied, the water controls dangerously out of reach when in the bath and only alright if you want to use the bath for a shower), a water ingress stain on the ceiling, no fresh milk for making tea. The customer service and management were poor. Read on if you want to hear about a few of the issues we had. But basically, we would not recommend this place for food or a stay. We are not excessively picky but our expectations were guided by the website information. We went on 3rd, 4th and 5th August, prime holiday time in England. Reeth was busy, the green was full of parked cars and many people sitting around tables outside the pubs and cafes. We were taken in by the bright images and hyperbole of the website, promising so much excellence. In fact, the place is in need of an upgrade in many areas and there is no reception so you need to go looking for staff. The website offers excellent food, cooked well by “classically trained chefs”, "No fuss or obscure provenance, just simple food done exceptionally well.” It was not. Frankly, we were glad to leave and will never return. Unfortunately we had booked dinner there as well as bed and breakfast otherwise we would have eaten dinner elsewhere. In spite of the buzz in Reeth, we were the only guests at the time of arrival and still our stay was badly managed! It was creepily empty all the time we were there. Due to recent serious brain surgery for me, we were in need of a short break with comfort and good food. We received neither. We have many happy memories of Reeth so thought it a good place for us to relax. The team even lied in advance about having a lighter weight duvet that I really needed, if they had been honest and said they did not have one I would have taken my own, it was that important to me. When I told them it was a heavy 13.5 TOG duvet on the bed, they said they did not have a lighter one and offered to fill the cover with sheets and blankets instead! This was a Luxury Room at Luxury prices. Here is one small example of the poor value food. After our starters not arriving at all (and we were the only people ordering at the time), we ate the main course that had arrived. Then, as we had not received the ordered starters my husband ordered a pudding (a tiny portion of Sticky Toffee Pudding) and I ordered the Large Cheese Board to finish the meal. For £14 the cheese board was insulting. There were four tiny, 3 mm thick, narrow slivers of cheese, a sliced tiny section of an apple, red grapes that had seen better days as several were shriveled and the stalks had several empty ends on the hard and dried up stalk, three walnuts and lastly, some crackers. The few crackers were stale and soft. There could not have been more than fifty pence worth of supermarket local cheese, even at retail prices. Shockingly poor value. You may wonder why we did not complain loudly at the time. Well, due to my health we could not face the added distress this would bring, we had already had a few strange and uncomfortable exchanges with the staff. We complained to the Manager when we got home and after two weeks had had no response at all, so I contacted the MD of Maison Parfaite, the new Yorkshire based owners. This prompted a cursory reply from the hotel Manager “Apologies for the late response. I just wanted to say thank you for your email earlier this month. I have passed it on to the whole team here and hopefully it will help us to improve our service going forward." No apology or explanations regarding my complaints, no acceptance at all, just flippant rhetoric. Some of them were indisputable and undeniable. Contact again with the MD proved very disappointing as she too took no responsibility for their failures, indeed, turned them round on us by saying that others liked their food or “Thank you for your feedback”. There is a culture of denial throughout the management. I will have no respect for any rebuttal to this review by management as they did not engage honestly with my complaints nor take responsibility for any of their demonstrable mistakes. You can judge a company by how they handle complaints. This company denies or ignores all, even undeniable on

I'll keep it short and sweet like my trip. My son and I took a last-minute trip, midweek, to a very beautiful and peaceful part of the world, Reeth. The hotel's location is perfect and the view from both mine and my son's immaculate and spacious rooms framed the scenery perfectly. The service and the food was excellent! Whilst there's a lot to love about this charming hotel, for me, the best thing about it is the team who work there. From the warm welcome and friendly chat to the first-class service. Especially Georgia, who couldn't do enough to make our stay feel special I will definitely return.

The location is pleasant, the hotel is clean and staff polite (when you can find them). One of the two rooms (most expensive one) was spacious, well appointed and nicely decorated. The other rather crampt and quite basic. Signs of wear and tear present in many areas throught the hotel. However, the reason for the relatively low rating was the food. Expectations were high, but I'm afraid we were badly let down. The food was just unpleasant. The chef appears to have gone to the school of 'make it look nice, but ignore flavour' there was a lack of seasoning on all dishes and the fish (although well cooked) was absolutely overwhelmed with tarragon...to the point my tounge was going numb... The pork terrine starter was devoid of seasoning and was fatty and slimy. Only saving grace being minute quantity of wild garlic sauce. Cheese board (£14!) Was bland, apparently supermarket cheese and unremarkable biscuits. Breakfast managed to be unpleasant also...sausages were very sweet/strange and 'block' of super dense black pudding unpalatable. The truth is, even a so-so hotel can be saved by great food. The opposite however is not true. At almost £600 for one night (two twin rooms d,b&b) I would have to say, this was a very expensive and disappointing experience that I will not be repeating.

Had a fantastic overnight stay at the Burgoyne. The room (Fremington) was lovely and the evening meal was absolutely delicious as was the breakfast. Courtney was wonderful! She can certainly multi-task and does so with a huge smile and is so efficient and friendly. Reeth itself is a gorgeous hidden gem, what a beautiful village! The whole place had a lovely atmosphere and we will certainly return - soon hopefully!
