Enjoy exceptional views from this former shooting lodge on the southern slopes of Swaledale. The Coast to Coast walk passes close by and there are plenty of other good routes for walking holidays as well. Mountain bikers can head straight from the hostel and choose a challenge to suit. Historic Richmond is only 10 miles away and is well worth a visit. For something a bit different, try YHA's first camping pods at YHA Grinton. We have five pods available sleeping up to a family of four. To tempt you after your day of activities, tasty meals and drinks are available from the bar.

Beautiful, peaceful, rural location with outstanding views of the Yorkshire Dales. Walking to the local pub by torchlight was a fun mini adventure. Staff were friendly. Self catering facilities were adequate and clean. We only encountered 2 other people in the hostel on the

Lovely quiet and peaceful site. Excellent welcome upon arrival. All queries met with helpful attitude. Clean facilities. I would not recommend the Swale room for anyone disabled due to bathroom being up some steep steps but a lovely room for anyone without any mobility issues.

Youth hostels provide adequate, but basic, no frills accommodation at a really low price in really great locations. If you're a family you can get a room together like we did, but on your own you can usually get a bed in a single sex dorm at shorter notice. They also do

Hi Emily! Yes I believe there is a camp fire square in among the camping pods, that I assume you would be fine to use.

My wife and I just went here ourselves, but there is some play equipment on the property as well as a small football pitch. There is a retreat ground called Marrick Priory, probably about a 20 minute drive from the property that has a ropes course and does day excursions in the area. I thin they will take those who aren't staying on the property for a fee. As well, you could head down to Wensleydale to Hawes, I think it is, to the cheese factory there. It's a bit of a drive, but I've heard it's worth it.
