Helen was the perfect hostess. A easy check in to very clean unique and stylish accommodation. Wonderful touches such as the fresh eggs for breakfast. The pictures do not do it justice. Great bathroom, living area and bedroom, all the facilities you could wish for. But best of all, and priceless, was the location. Up on the bill overlooking the beach at Sandsend, and just a couple of miles along the beach from Whitby. The views of the beach and sea were wonderful, even from your bed. If you lucky, as we were, wake up to a wonderful colourful sunrise. Sandsend is obviously quieter than Whitby but has a top quality restaurant (Estbek House), cafes, shops and a great pub (The Hart). I recommend this place 100%.
We’ve been to the Porthole four times now and never get tired of its stunning location and the views from both inside and out. In the winter it provides a warm cosy bolthole from which to watch the sea crashing against the shore, and in the summer it’s lovely just to sit on the decking and soak up the sea air and sometimes even sun! Helen is a great host and nothing is ever too much trouble. We will no doubt be returning for another east coast adventure.
Love it! It's away from the madding crowds, tranquillity, fantastic views along the coast to Whitby, wonderful sunrises. Cosy accommodation, superb host in Helen, plenty of tips on where to go and what to see. Spotlessly clean, so relaxing. Walked to Mulgrave castle one day and along the beach to Whitby another, perfect for social distancing (strange times we're in?)
Our weekend stay at The Porthole was fabulous. A great one bedroom apartment with amazing views of the sea from the huge floor to ceiling living room and bedroom windows. The apartment is spacious yet cosy with all the creature comforts you need for a really relaxing stay. Underfloor heating in the bathroom is great after a luxurious bath. Helen the owner is lovely and really helpful. She supplies all you need for great breakfasts - freshly laid eggs and a fab egg boiler, cereal, juice, yoghurt, bread, jams and marmalade. The Porthole is situated in a prime spot in Sandsend and we will definitely be returning.
We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. The Porthole is very comfortable with everything you need, and has great views across the bay. It is a b&b but it feels like self catering as you can come and go as you wish. We would highly recommend staying here.
