We visit Estbek whenever we holiday on the Yorkshire coast. It’s now like visiting old friends and the team treat us in the same way.
The building is elegant and the two dining rooms are quite small and intimate but comfortable. Once a guest is seated, the table is not rebooked so the meal is leisurely and not rushed.
The food is sublime. The menu is based on fish but there are other choices.
We were treated to a very pleasant amuse bouche of tropical smoothie.
I started with pan fried scallops which were perfectly cooked. My husband had crab spring rolls which he also loved. We both had the fish pie which is not a sloppy mess under potato! It is a stack of perfectly prepared crayfish, scallops and white fish in a lovely seafood sauce. We usually have the winter menu when this dish is served with vegetables but this time we were able to catch the season for samphire and peas. This was dressed with crystallised lemon which lifted it to heaven!
The desserts are a triumph. Homemade mini desserts and ice creams - servings about the size of an espresso cup - meant we could choose a variety between us. I chose creme brulee, toffee Eton Mess and a steamed sponge with home made strawberry jam. He chose chocolate flake ice cream in a brandy snap basket and trifle. All gorgeous as they always are.
The food and ambiance are delightful but the stars are the team. Lovely lovely people who really care about what they do and want to share their commitment with their guests.
We’ll be back yet again next year.

We visited based on the numerous exceptional reviews this restaurant with rooms receives. We stayed for one night and can only add to the positive comments and completely understand guests and diners returning. We got home and quickly booked another stay in August. We loved everything about it.

Yes - it is not a particularly cheap place to eat but you get what you pay for; we were more than happy to pay an appropriate price for the location, surroundings, service and amazing fresh fish. The breakfast was also excellent.

We spent some time speaking with David, the co-owner, and got to understand just what a labour of love this place has been over the last 18 years. We had amazing food and a fantastic stay...and are looking forward to our next visit.

Gorgeous food, well presented, served efficiently. Was most impressed. had the Lobster and my partner had a Lobster starter which meant the bill was eye watering, but hard to complain given the outstanding quality.

Visited with my family and had a wonderful time. Service was very prompt and the menu varies depending on what is freshest. We had some beautifully cooked plaice with lemon butter which was lovely, as well as a selection of wonderful little puddings to share. They also offered us some wonderful treats at the start and end of the meal- a lovely carrot and honey soup to start and some fresh chocolates to finish. We'd highly recommend a visit.

We first booked Estbek House after reading a review in the Yorkshire magazine. That was about 2 years ago and then Covid struck so this weekend was the first chance we had to make it. It was absolutely worth the wait.

The phone call with David to fix things up, the welcome when we arrived and the Allum room we had were just excellent curtain raisers for the main event. The food and staff were simply perfect. Best piece of fresh cod I’ve had and my wife’s signature dish fish pie (like no other) was stunning. The service was friendly, efficient and always available without being over done and the wine list ideally rounded everything off. This place is a true gem run by partners David (front of house) and Tim (chef patron) who really go that extra step to make everything work. We shall certainly get back soon and not wait again.

WOW.. this is a fantastic place, the food is probably the best you will ever experience and with a very tentative team it delivers on all accounts.

Rooms are of a very high standard, and breakfast will set you up for the day ahead.

If your looking for a special place to spoil someone, then this is the place.

We had a fantastic stay at the Estbek House Hotel. The welcome we received felt warm and genuine and set the tone for the whole weekend. The room was great, and bed felt comfy. The food was absolutely fantastic, and had a very well put together wine list to compliment. The breakfast was also brilliant. We were staying for our first anniversary and would highly recommend to any couples wanting a weekend away by the coast

Visited in September and again in November on the last day of lockdown. Outstanding fine dining here consistent and high quality. Unobtrusive but exceptional service.
The legendary Fish pie is to die for and desserts if you still have room are unbelievable.
3 courses and a decent wine from an excellent list all for around £120 for 2.

Visiting Whitby for the first time and found Estbeck House online after searching restaurants in the area. Was blown away by the service, atmosphere and quality of food. Should we visit Whitby again, we will definitely be back. Outstanding!

Lovely little hotel in a nice location. The staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout the stay. We had booked a twin room but there had been a mistake meaning this was not available, however they kindly gave us two separate rooms. The rooms were very clean and well equipped but maybe slightly on the small side. The restaurant was brilliant- see separate review.
