Axos is a cozy and pleasant apartment hotel, in a beautiful location and with a great variety of services. Highly recommended as an alternative for those who want to explore majestic Rethymno and its surroundings but don't want to be confined within the city. Its name comes from the village ‘AXOS’ where the family that runs the hotel comes from, works since 1989 and been fully renovated in 2009. It is built in an L shape that encloses the pool and garden. There is also a gift/gold shop near the entrance where guests can benefit from an exclusive discount on every purchase. Axos is located in Platanias which is the most well known seaside village for the holidaymakers with restaurants, supermarkets, bars, stores with clothes or souvenirs and with a very good bus and taxi transport. To its guests it offers free Internet WI-FI at the public areas (lobby, pool, bar) (Wi-Fi) or they can use the PC provided in the lobby are and its target is the friendly atmosphere since it is a Family Run hotel. Last but not least, Axos is very pleased and proud to announce that the National Jury of programs ''GREEN KEY'' decided to reward ''Axos'' hotel, after having evaluated their application for participating in this ecological label for tourist units. So now Axos is officially a ''GREEN KEY'' hotel.''Axos hotel offers 44 Studios and Apartments that recently have been renovated (2009). Modern furnishing, spacious rooms and big balconies suitable decorated in a pleasant atmosphere. All rooms are equipped with central heating, self controlled air-condition, balcony, satellite Flat Screen TV, direct telephone line, radio, cooker with 2 rings, microwave, kitchen kettle, coffee & tea making facilities, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, wake up service, hair dryer, bath tabs and very relaxing bed mattresses with ISO certifications for you to enjoy.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel Axos is in an ideal location just outside of the main hub of Rethymnon in the quieter suburb of Platanias.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and all staff are super friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the area and its attractions.
The hotel is just a 5 minute walk from the sandy beach and situated among the shops, restaurants and bars - not that you will need to go to any other bar because this hotel has by far the best bar in town with a fabulous sound system playing a great selection of music.
All of the guests I spoke to at Axos were returning visitors which speaks volumes about the hospitality you receive from the family of owners.
And if you want to visit Rethymnon the number 20 bendy bus runs every half hour with a stop just a few metres from the hotel.
I certainly recommend a stay at Hotel Axos.

Visited here Aug 2022 with family of four including two teenagers. The hotel itself is lovely, clean and lively in the evening as the front bar is popular. The pool area always had a seat and was well kept. Air conditioning standard in room at no extra cost and the safe was €10 for the week. Cleaning of room was daily. Apart from all the obvious to make your stay comfortable we found the family fantastic. They took the time to get to know us and check in to make sure we were okay and not in need for anything. Siblings run the hotel and credit due they have fantastic customer care. The bar can lead to extended noise (not crazy loud) so if you have small kids request a room further away. We loved the bar and music as our family is older and we could enjoy it on our balcony. Beach is lovely so make sure you get down to see the sun set. Restaurants in this area all serve the same food but the menus are vast and will not disappoint. Water parks are 1h 30min by bus but worth the visit. Overall it was a lovely family holiday.

While this may not be a 5 star hotel, it has all the amenities that I needed for a relaxing holiday. The hotel is very clean The location is great 200m from the sandy beach, the break was always very good with a varied choice . The bar is the best in Platanias..
What sets this hotel apart is the family that own it, nothing is too much trouble, all of the family seem to really care about their guests & treat them as extended family, Yiannis who runs the bar seems to know everybody in town & is always on hand for recommendations & advice.
Thank you all for kindness & 7 star service

Had a lovely weeks stay at this family run hotel. Was made to feel very welcome from start to finish. Breakfast was very nice with options for both meat eaters and vegetarians like me. The room was immaculate and the maid spent a long time in each room and did a very thorough job. Staff always greeted you with a pleasant Hello, said in Greek. The pool was also very clean. There was a band on the night before we left which attracted a lot of people. The family also run a jewellery shop which is attached to the hotel.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and it definitely deserves the 5 stars I gave it.

Just spent 2 weeks and our 3rd year at the Axos Hotel, fab place, great people so so friendly!! Can’t do enough for you so polite and nothing is too much trouble. Room excellent and very clean, towels and bedding changed on a regular basis, bed comfy don’t need anything else.
Bar has a great vibe and Yiannis and Joseph kept us entertained with fab music and raki 👍🏼 and with the COVID-19 situation the hotel remained the same as normal apart from it and everything else around closing at 12.00 midnight.
This is a great place to stay and we will be returning, can’t thank you all enough for our fabulous holiday - maybe 3 weeks next year !

This was our first visit, but it won't be our last! Really enjoyed our stay, great location, near the bus stop, beach, tavernas, supermarket, shops and bars! Quiet but not too quiet! Our flight was delayed so we didn't arrive until about 1am, but the staff met us off the bus, made us feel welcome straight away and to our surprise the bar stayed open so could get something to eat and a drink. Nice pool, always got a sun lounger, nice friendly bar, great staff, lovely Greek breakfast - very clean rooms, would highly recommend this friendly hotel

Arrived at our apartment block we booked and paid for a year ago only to find it in darkness and closed. Axos Hotel took us in and looked after us for the week telling us not to worry and they would sort the billing. They provided us with an apartment for my daughter her partner and our 5 month old grandson and one for me and my wife. Very very nice friendly helpful family run hotel. 110 out of 100 thank you very much.

I was so glad I found this place!! The best bar in the area. It has a great atmosphere, good music but, above all, fantastic staff. Yannis, Michalis, Kriti and Christina are so friendly and welcoming. I had some brilliant evenings here and hope to be back there soon. It's a MUST when you're in Platanias. Don't miss it!!

After reading the very nice reviews of Axos my wife and I booked a two weeks stay at Axos. We stayed in a one bed-room apartment with our daughter. The room itself is very nice, with basis furniture and a kitchen with the most important appliances. The bed was though very hard, and the plastic mattresses not so comfy. For me it was OK, but my wife was very annoyed by it and it disturbed her sleep a lot.
The pool area is nice, and we never experienced that it was too crowded. Sadly the quality in the snack bar is quite low, we ordered pizzas one day and got delivered frozen pizzas from the oven. This corresponded well with the breakfast buffet, which was as well very bad. Nothing in the buffet seemed fresh, and the quality of the products was low for everything. There were only Greek yoghurt, the only fruit was water melon and the salads and warm dishes seemed very greasy for breakfast. We started bringing our own jam, yoghurt and so on to the breakfast – and noticed others doing this too. Then why pay for breakfast?
The worst part of the stay was though that the hotel is very noisy in the nights. In the day the hotel seems to appeal to families, but in the night the bar at the hotel opens. The bar is open air, and is open to the pool scene where most apartments face. From around 20:00 and until late in the night music blasts from the bar, ruining having a relaxed night on the balcony with a book. The “sound proof” windows might be good, but then the walls is indeed not sound proof because even in the room the music is heard quite high. It took a few nights to get use to (before I could get a full night’s sleep) – for me that is no way OK, the most important part of a hotel is to have a good quiet nights rest.
So all in all a nice pool scene and nice rooms, but the food is very bad and the hotel is way too noisy due to the immense music from the hotels own bar.
Next time I am going to Crete, if will stay somewhere else.

Response from Manosd, Owner at Hotel Axos
Responded 14 Oct 2011
Dear Mr ‘’af01’’, My name is Manos Dafermos and I am one of the family members that own and work in Axos. I do thank you for taking 5 minutes of your time to write this review and also to thank you for your good rating that you gave us for the ‘’Rooms’’ (4/5), ‘’cleanliness’’ (4/5) and for the ‘’service’’ (4/5). As far as the location and your 3/5 points that you gave, that’s something that there is nothing we cannot do but this is something that holidaymakers should look into before going for holidays. I mean that if you want to be in the city then you choose a city hotel, if you want to be in the country then you book a traditional house in a village and if you want to be in a holidaymakers village close to the city that you can fine anything you need, then you come to ‘’Platanes Resort’’ & ‘’Axos Hotel’’. Since you have written so many reviews in the past I took you review for Axos very seriously and very carefully. Considering the bed mattresses, this is the most difficult thing for a hotel to choose. When we made the renovation in 2009 we literally lay on more than 30 mattresses before we choose the one we have now and to be honest since this is the first indication this year for our mattresses being uncomfortable, I think we made a good choice. What makes the noise is the thin material that we have on top of the mattresses to protect them from dirt or liquids. If you would ask us we would have removed this material from your bed. As far as the quality of the food that you experienced in the snack bar, I will disagree with you. I don’t think that we mentioned anywhere in our menu that we have fresh pizza. You only get fresh pizza in a restaurant and not in a ‘’snack bar’’. When you go to ‘’Mac Donald’s’’ do you expect to have a fresh burger? Also what surprised me is your indication about the breakfast. You say that: ‘’ There were only Greek yoghurt.......’’ but yet again you say that you brought your own yogurt????? Last but not least, you mention that ‘’ the most important part of a hotel is to have a good quiet nights rest.’’ which I agree with you 100%. The music that comes from the bar, people seem to enjoyed it more when they are in their balcony, rather than been disturbed if they wanted to read a book. Yes we do have a bar that it’s lively but always after 24:00 the music comes down. You know for some people the bar itself is unforgettable memories. For example, this year a couple got engaged in the balcony under the music from the bar, or another couple came back this year to plan their marriage for next year and when we asked them why you want to get married here in Crete, their answer was ‘’because we had a great time with you last year here in the Axos bar’’. The only thing that I would like to ask from guests in the future is that when they experience a bad situation in our hotel, we are there to help them make their stay here more pleasant and not to judge them. For us it would be the easiest thing to change you rooms, if you had indicated the problem with the bar noise. Thanks again in behalf of the Axos family Manos Dafermos
