A few hours here balances the battlefield. It is rare to go somewhere on the Western Front that is still as it was 100 years ago and it feels as though it really hasn't changed a lot. Really friendly staff, a lovely cat occupying the hot seat in the chapel and no, I'll never judge a bloke by his umbrella.

It's probably safe to say that if you know about Toc H you will already have a feel for WW1 events. If not, book here, go and see some of the sights of the area, and then sit in the garden and ponder a while. We stayed at Talbot House in Poperinghe for a night, having always wanted to visit...

Visit Talbot House, but maybe after you've visited some of the many museums, cemeteries, battle sites etc. It provided a sanctuary for the soldiers in World War 1 and I found it to have a similar impact 100 years later. Elsewhere you can see many images of dead soldiers and devasted landscapes. Talbot House really made me think about the...

My Mum & Dad were wardens at Talbot house in the 80s. The house is just as welcoming now as it was then. My Son and I went on a visit to Ypres and surrounding battle field and war graves. We used Talbot house as our base. Bed and breakfast is very reasonable with the town centre of Poperinghe a...

Delightful former British Empire (i.e. including the dominions Australia etc) officers' and later all ranks club in Poperinge, a cute little Flemish town ca 15 mins drive west of Ypres. The building is a four-storey approx 200 year old building In many ways unchanged since the Great War. Basic but rather charming bedrooms - beautiful ancient floorboards in my case...

This is a must. It tells the inspiring story of Tubby Talbot and what he did for the soldiers of WWI. It was poignant and incredible to walk exactly where 100 years ago soldiers walked. the garden is stunning and the guides so helpful

This is not an usual hotel, it is part of history. You stay at the place playing key role in regional WWI history, walk the same stairs, look through the same windows as the soldiers resting here after terror of battles. Talbot House cannot be compared with any other, you get there not for luxury, elevators, fancy restaurant or fitness...

Well worth visiting this refuge for WW1 soldiers which has been preserved largely as it was 100 years ago. There is a film show and a number of sitting rooms to view but it's worth making your way to the very top of the house to see the beautiful chapel in the roof. The garden is very pretty and a...

We first visited the museum here in 2014, where we found out that you could actually stay in the house. With that in mind, we have stayed here in 2015, and also in June this year. Talbot House (also known as Toc H) was opened as a club for soldiers in 1915, and provided peace and quiet for thousands of...

Well restored house and museum with a a super little film about the history, and a quiet garden. This place was a rest house for soliders who were "out of the line" in WW1 trenches nearby. A special palce. You can stay but the facilities are basic. Lovely cup of tea too!
