The Knowes Hotel and Restaurant is a family run business situated in Macduff on the beautiful Moray Firth coast in Aberdeenshire. Rated 3* by Visit Scotland, the hotel and restaurant is contemporary and welcoming. There are seven bedrooms in the hotel, five of which enjoy fabulous views across the Moray Firth coast. Rooms are double or twin and are all en-suite. In room facilities include free wifi, flat screen TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Travel cots are available for younger visitors. Scottish and continental breakfast options are included. The Knowes Hotel chefs use the finest local Scottish produce including seafood, meats, game, poultry, fruit and vegetables to create a mouth-watering array of lunches, afternoon teas and evening meals. The hotel bar stocks an excellent range of local malt whiskies, Scottish gins, fine wines and premium teas and coffees. Guests can enjoy the superb views across the Macduff bay from the hotel, including stunning sunsets and frequent visits by dolphins in the summer months, and a glimpse of Northern Lights in the winter months if lucky too! Lovely relaxing hotel to stay in. I came to visit family in November. The staff were very kind and welcoming, friendly and a joy to talk to. The hotel was immaculate. Everyone was very accommodating. The rooms are clean and Perfectly set out. A lovely area to stay. There are buses to take you from Aberdeen through to Inverness which are very frequent and good for hop on hop of visits to the various beautiful towns around the East Coast. Only thing I wish was my legs were longer. Being short and trying to tackle hill a bit on the difficult side. I would highly recommend The Knowes Hotel.

Visited the restaurant three times during a two week holiday. The menu is extensive yet all the dishes we tried were superb. Each one high quality and served by wonderful staff whom were friendly and helpful. The sea view over Banff Bay is absolutely beautiful.

Stayed at the Knowes midweek for work. Food was absolutely delicious, room was very modern, spacious and comfortable (would recommend a sea view) and staff were very friendly, helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. Would highly recommend!

Phenomenal stay and meal at this hotel. Having stayed in many hotels around this price point in Scotland, this one is the best by far! Really made our stopover in Macduff memorable. Restaurant had quite possibly some of the best I have had in a long while. Highly recommend the haddock kiev! Incredible service and staff as well.

Went here on saturday night with the family and had an excellent meal. Every dish was nicely presented and tasted great. Probably the best food in the area. Good service and never had to wait long between courses.

After hearing so many excellent things about the food at The Knowles we eventually managed to find a reason to visit and we weren’t disappointed. Fortunate enough to have a table at the window, the view over Macduff on a lovely summer evening was spectacular. The Cullen Skink risotto, a twist on the local delicacy, is outstanding and a match for anything served in a Michelin star restaurant. A return visit is most definitely on the cards, the only question is why it took us so long to visit in the first place!

Stayed here for one night as an anniversary treat to ourselves. Check-in process easy and we enjoyed some drinks outside in the sunshine. Our room overlooked the harbour and sea, great views on a nice day. Room a good size, powerful shower and all amenities there. Food at dinner was well presented with imaginative pairings and ingredients. My dairy intolerance was not an issue and there was oat/soya milk available at breakfast time. Good selection of wines and other spirits. Most of the serving staff were young but really pleasant and engaging with diners/hotel residents. After dinner we would have liked an area to unwind and enjoy a few drinks before bed, perhaps a residents bar or lounge area with comfy sofas would be a good addition. We went for the boozy brunch. Firstly the staff were excellent and very welcoming, no complaints there. The drinks menu for the boozy brunch is ok, the only thing I would say is that if I were to go as a couple, it would be nice if there was a pint/beer option. HOWEVER the food was the issue, I had the savoury french toast, I love french toast, BUT this french toast was NOT good! It was more like soggy fried bread, it was so greasy, it had no taste, just grease. It looked and tasted like it had been deep fried. It was very disappointing. I was not the only one at my table to have this and we both felt it was nothing like french toast. It would not put me off going back for a main meal as I have never been disappointed here, but I do think it would put me off having brunch here again. …

We haven’t had any feedback like this before. Was here with friends, the menu choice was extensive and the food did not disappoint. We all had different main courses and each one was excellent. Starters and sweet’s were delicious. Food was beautifully presented. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. Couldn’t fault anything. The view from our table by the window was stunning. Will definitely be back again.
