We arranged to meet friends for lunch at the Knowes Restaurant. It was recommended by other friends who had stumbled on the place given its location. We received a wonderful welcome and invited to sanitise our hands before being shown to our table, where we were asked to provide our details for contact tracing purposes. Our deinks order was taken and food menus provided. We were all spoilt for choice but eventually mamnged to agree . When served the plates were artictic and food was simply wonderful. The friendliness of the staff, excellent food served with wonderful views over the Moray Firth is enough to tempt us to return to The Knowes again.

Fourth visit since the Knowes reopened after lockdown. The social distancing and hygiene practices in place make for a very safe feeling visit.

We both had Cullen Skink followed by battered fish this time as it was a lunchtime visit. Everything cooked perfectly and we were given a wee side plate to give some of our food to the baby.

All the staff are super friendly and accommodating.

Stayed for one night as a single traveller and had a lovely room with a double bed and nice little shower room. The whole hotel was very clean and well decorated and furnished to an excellent standard. Staff were extremely polite and couldn't do enough to help. Amazing views of the rugged coastline from my bedroom window and from the dining room. The dinning room was full of local people which is always a sign of good food. My evening meal was perfectly cooked and presented as was the full Scottish breakfast in the morning. The hotel is excellent value for money and if I am every touring that coastline again I will definitely repeat my stay.

We dined here on Sunday with 4 Filipino guests making it 6 of us in total.
Firstly, food was very good and plentiful for the price. So in my point of view value for money.
I have dined here many times before but it’s the first time we have been seated in the function room. Honestly not keen, no ambiance and seated right at the back of the hall. Feels a bit canteen like. (Sorry , but my honest opinion) A few fairy lights just don’t cut it.
I lowered my score for the experience as one of our guests had a full plate of silverside with all the trimmings (not his meal) and a basket of chips dropped on him while the waiter was serving our table apparently a new server in training who didn’t seem to know you don’t place or take food from the end of a table , stretching over peoples drinks letting the end of his dish cloth trail in our drinks ! Yuck. That was a first !
Other servers came to help him clear the floor and on paying, the girl explained it was his second shift . Ok fair enough we all have to learn but it’s very fair to say basic training seemed to be non existent.
My main concern was that I saw my guest clasp his hand as the hot food seemed to have burned him and he continued to wipe the food off his clothes. I asked him if he was okay to which he said it’s okay but being a very quiet man I believe he wanted no fuss . Poor guy .
I thought the staff should have checked that he was okay and not just ask after they saw my concern.
To me common sense .
I would return but only if seated in restaurant and able to look out for the flying food!! Lol!

This is an excellent hotel both for accommodation and meals
Our bedroom and en-suite were small but compensated by the lovely views over Banff and the North Sea. The decoration was of a high standard and both rooms spotless — well done cleaning staff.
Breakfast was self service for juice, fruit etc but had a menu which provided a range of cooked foods, more than ample. The dinner menu provided a wide range of dishes for all courses. Emphasis for the main course was on seafood which was so fresh and locally sourced. All food was very well cooked and presented.
All staff are a credit to the hotel and were attentive , caring and helpful.
We hope to return in the autumn.

Fluffy pillows, gorgeous sea views, mouthwatering food and friendly service. We had an excellent experience at The Knowes Hotel. If you are visiting the area, or doing the NE250, we highly recommend you stop here for a sea facing room and the milk poached smoked haddock for breakfast.

Having stayed here on two previous occasions we had no hesitation in returning for a two night stay. Once again it ticked all the boxes for us even though these are not ' NORMAL' times with the Covid situation. Very clean, comfortable and delicious food all round. Sea views are terrific both in the restaurant & the room we choose. Warm and inviting Scottish theme throughout which gives it a homely appeal with very friendly & professional staff.
We had evening meals and breakfast on both days and the food and service were all first class. We also attended ' afternoon tea with Santa ' with our Great Grandson and the variety of bakes & cakes were lovely but way more than we could finish. Thanks again to the whole team at The Knowes for your fine hospitality and a wee mention for Stephanie who is an asset to the hotel. We'll be back !!

We visited the Knowes for Sunday lunch and arrived early but had no problem with very helpful staff who organized a table in a really busy restaurant. The service and the food was first class. Haddock is my recommendation 😊

After having eaten here and being impressed with both the food and customer service I returned today to purchase a voucher for afternoon tea for two. After having seen the price online I turned up expecting to pay what had been advertised, unfortunately this isn’t how it works. I was told that the prices had been increased last week but the website hadn’t yet been updated. I asked if this was false advertising and advised that I expected to pay the advertised price, I was informed that I would have to pay the increased price. I would have left without making a purchase but after having travelled for 45mins and wanting my parents to be able to enjoy a treat I went ahead and paid for a voucher. Unlike the food this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I stayed for one night in this friendly and cosy hotel. Staff very polite, friendly and helpful.
Room No.8 on top floor has great views. Bad weather at the time but the waves crashing against the lighthouse gave an authentic feel and could be seen from my room and the restaurant.
The food was exceptional! Local Cullen Skink to start which was warming and tasty. Just what was needed after a long drive.
For main course I had the Surf & Turf. Steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The langostines had a lovely (I assume home-made) crisp coating. Veg was very tasty. Pricey but worth it. I feel the chips did not need the cheese on top as they were seasoned nicely and the main was tasty enough, but just a personal preference.
I ordered a steak sauce but barely touched it as the food was delicious without. Sauce was very nice though and again looked home made. Everything fresh and top quality.
Room was clean and cosy.
A quiet hotel with one 8 rooms but the bar still had cocktails which were very nice if you want a drink on an evening.
Well done all.
