Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent and very friendly welcome after 11pm (as we had travel problems,) nothing was too much trouble when we arrived and were greeted by a lovely lady. A large carpark. Breakfast was hot and fresh, cooked perfectly to our liking - also eaten in a fantastic dining room with amazing views and at least 6 variety’s of birds to watch on the feeder etc. a nut hatch feeding upside down was a treat. A comfy sleep and again fabulous view to wake up to from our window overlooking the garden. Soap shower gel and plenty of toilet roll provided in shower room which was of a good size (I have stayed in son where you could not even turn or move on the loo lol!) We will be recommending a stay here to all our friends - thank you for a wonderful stay.

My sister and I stayed here for one night for a family funeral nearby. Karen and her daughter Claire were so accommodating and welcoming we were really pleased we chose George Borrow to stay. The twin room we stayed in was really clean and has everything we needed, even a hairdryer. The beds were really comfy and we had a beautiful view of the snow topped mountains outside. Thank you Karen and Claire. We hope to see you again. Kaya

Lovely family run hotel, good wholesome food, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very clean, comfortable room with en-suite facilities. Excellent menu choices and lovely breakfast. Couldn’t fault it, we will be back. Excellent location for walking in the Cambrian mountains. Many thanks to Karen and family.

The staff are very friendly and hospitable. The food we had for both eve meal and breakfast was perfectly acceptable indeed. In fact the portions are very generous. The room was comfortable, warm with the aid of an electric radiator, one side of the bed had a low beam which made walking round difficult. The only negative I have is when you arrive the place looks unkempt and on the tatty side, which must put a lot of passers by off. Bit of time spent tidying up would make all the difference. We would stay again as we know what it’s like inside.

This hotel doesn’t try and be something that it isn’t. It’s a 2 star hotel and it does what it says on the tin: Pros: Welcoming staff - we didn’t need anything but the lovely owner certainly gave off a ‘nothing is too much trouble’ vibe Scenery - we had a Mountain View room and waking up that over the weekend was a joy Shower - great water pressure and not too fiddly like you might get in other places Cons: Bed - we had a double room but you’d swear blind that it was the smallest double bed ever. Me and my fiancée were fighting to stay on the bed at times. I was disappointed by the size of it as the night sleep wasn’t great and we only needed this hotel to do just that so the beds aren’t great unless you’re a literal stick figure. Wi-Fi - Wi-Fi is OK but it kept dropping in and out on my phone and laptop only for a few seconds at a time but still was an inconvenience at times I’d also like to point out for future visitors that this hotel is very much out of the way (which is why I booked it). It’s a 12 mile drive to the shops of Aberystwyth so don’t expect to have amenities around the corner Overall, like I pointed out above, it’s a 2 star hotel so I guess you get what you pay for and apart from the bed being rather small, it served it’s purpose.

Check in was ok they had our booking there all ready. We were in one of the very top rooms and although it was a double room it was quiet compact and in one half of the room the ceiling height is VERY low. There were coffee making facilities but no glasses for teeth cleaning. Shower was ok. Our evening meal was very good I had the steak which with all of the accompaniments filled a large plate. My wife had the curry which she could not finish, so the portions are very generous. Breakfast was cooked fresh and it was nice to see fresh mushrooms rather than tinned. The overall look and feel seems like it could do with a bit of updating and the garden pots have seen better days. Only stayed one night which was enough.
