Reviewed yesterday NEW

We had a lovely family weekend here in this quirky old hotel. The building is so old and the decor is certainly fitting of its age. We ate in the restaurant after having a few drinks in the cosy bar, and loved every minute. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and our room was comfortable and quiet. We would definitely go... More

Booked this place for the history. Enjoyed looking around the rooms. The food was excellent and very accommodating. Unfortunately the service was poor and the staff complained a lot about each other. Was thinking of returning but have decided to give it a miss. Shame.

This is a really quirky and very old building full of interesting items. Good food - the soup was delicious, though i was disappointed I couldn't have a brown roll (they only do white) - these days most places give a choice of white or brown bread, it's not difficult to have both. Lovely atmosphere, and the grounds have very... More

Beautiful hotel with an abundance of history! Fabulous rooms with old four-poster beds and although the building is very old, the en-suite and facilities were well integrated. Love the décor - suits of armour, swords and heraldic features and displays everywhere. Fabulous bar with good beers and friendly, helpful staff. We were late for the breakfast window, but the staff... More

It's a lovely hotel. Full of character and little nooks and crannies everywhere. The superior room was generously sized with a huge bathroom. What grated was the cleanliness of the rooms and the overall attention to detail. The rooms were surface cleaned but the bulbs had layers of dust on them, every surface that was above head height or below... More

Went recently on a weekend lunch time just for a drink and a snack. Saw that the crab sandwich was on the menu, always our favourite, for a reasonable £7.95. When it came we realised why it was priced as it was. The presentation was a crab mayonnaise sandwich which was runny and unpleasant. On a blind tasting you would... More

Popped in for a drink on the way back to Torquay. Beautiful place, full of history and a great ambience. Only regret is that we hadn't booked to stay the night! A definite to do place for the future . Well worth a visit
