Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an excellent place to stay. Very clean and the staff are really very welcoming. The food is of great quality and prices are reasonable, Parking is very good too, The room was great with tea/coffee making facilities and a large bathroom with bah and shower over the bath and free toiletries.

We stopped over in Canonbie for a single night and to be honest, even though we laughed a lot, a second night would have probably rocked us over from mirth to annoyance. The welcome was warm enough and the draft ale was good, but then things ran downhill. We waited 20 mins for a menu before finally giving up and calling the passing waitress over and asking for something on the Specials Board. It then took a further 15 minutes for the meal to arrive. We then sat with the empty plates in front of us for a further 20 minutes, watching the waitress walk past us as though we were invisible. Eventually we went from laughing about the ineptitude of the service to being fed up. We gathered the plates up and put them to one side, finally bringing them to the attention of the

We had a meal here the other evening and it was so good I thought I'd write a review which I don't do very often. We had mussels for starter and then the recommended option of fish pie and it was a really good choice. Portion size was good and the meal was delicious. We will definitely be back for another meal soon.

Arrived at 2.10 on a Sunday afternoon expecting only to be able to get a drink but were pleasantly surprised to be offered a choice of lunch even though service had finished. The food was freshly prepared, tasty and of good portion size. The staff were very helpful and polive.

Visited the new bistro section for breakfast before I caught the bus to Carlisle. Service was excellent and the food was delicious and extremely well priced considering the quality! I had the smoked salmon scrambled egg and a pot of tea. I would deffo recommend it if you’re passing through Canonbie!!

We visited on a Wednesday and it was quiet but we were quickly served and had a lovely tasty home cooked tea. Proper pub meal just what we wanted, our 3 labradors were welcomed in too. We will definitely visit again when staying up here.

Used to call here regularly some twenty years ago, so looked forward to seeing how it has changed over the years. Sadly disappointed. We were going to have lunch here but it was like the Marie Celeste. We were directed to the bar by a pleasant young lady and were left with no one looking after it. When someone surfaced we decided we would just have a drink and not bother with food. So sad! Business needs tweaking and by a lot if it is to return how it used to be

Pulled off A7 on a journey south and found this fantastic country pub. Great food and fantastic service. Having read the other reviews I’m glad we visited now that the new regime is in place. Definitely worth a visit and we’ll be back 👍

Called in last night for a bar meal with our Westie dog- didn’t expect the food to be so good! Hubby had fish & chips which were some of the best he’d had(and he’s fussy), I had the sea bass special which was cooked perfectly and served with king prawns and mussels. Will definitely be back.
