We booked through Secret Escapes & stayed in the Saltmarshe Suite on the top floor.
Lovely size room and pleasant views from the two windows. Plenty of space and a newly appointed bathroom. Only thing that I would say is that the carpet needs a bit of a clean. Great nights sleep as the Hall is situated away from any noise, all you hear is the local wildlife.
My Husband & I enjoyed the sunrise coming across the river through the trees - beautiful view from our bedroom window.
The Staff at this Hotel were absolutely fantastic, so friendly, pleasant and would do anything you asked of them. Always attentive and we never had to ask for anything twice, they were such lovely ladies.
All the Covid measures were in place and in all areas masks were worn by Guests and Staff alike.
Even with these measures in place the Hall was a joy to be in.
The Public areas were nicely decorated and well maintained giving a warm glow especially with the cosy fires lit in the evenings.
We had a full breakfast on the morning of our departure and a 3 Course Dinner on the evening we checked in: all the food was lovely and had a very good choice for all tastes.
The Hall has plenty of parking space and has well maintained grounds to venture around. There is a pleasant walk along the river which we can highly recommended which is right next to the Hall.
The Hall's grounds plays host to some fantastic trees which looked even more beautiful in their Autumnal glory.
Overall a most pleasant place to stay and would gladly return.

We stayed in the Yorkshire Suite and ohhh my goodness it was incredible - it has a roll top bath in the bedroom overlooking the amazing views , a huge walk in shower within the large shower room and a lovely, modern and comfy lounge with flat screen TV on the wall . The suite had everything we needed and it was so lovely to have all that space to ourselves !

We spent the evening having dinner outside on the terrace which consisted of 5 courses of incredibly gorgeous food !! The service was great and the girls looked after us very well indeed .

We enjoyed a delicious full english breakfast the following morning before walking round the grounds of Saltmarsh taking in the beautiful views - The small, intimate gardens were so pretty and their outdoor pool makes the stay pretty much perfect given we had 27 degree sunshine!

Overall i cannot fault this place one bit and will be booking in again very soon to see Kate and then rest of the team - think we need 2 night next time for sure .

We had a long weekend break at Saltmarshe Hall now things are starting to return to some normality after the pandemic.
This is a real gem of a hotel located alongside the River Ouse in open sprawling countryside.
The main public rooms and restaurant appear to have been recently decorated and are smart in appearance.
A warm welcome from staff on reception made a good start to our weekend and we were shown to our room located in what used to be the old servants quarters and called Yokefleet. It was a large room again freshly decorated and carpeted, with a large contemporary fitted ensuite with a large walk-in shower.
Further expansion of the hotel is currently underway with building work to convert another area of the hotel to provide greater facilities for events such as weddings.
We dined in the restaurant on two nights with the Saturday night having a special tasting menu for Valentines day, that had been produced and prepared by the hotels new Executive Chef Michael Wilkinson, who has only recently taken up post having previously been Head Chef at the prestigious Star in the City in York which is run by Michelin Star winner Andrew Pern.
The meal was glorious and a credit to Michael, comprising of, House Bread & Yeast Butter, Celeriac Soup 63 Degree Arlington White, Truffle, Hand Dived Scallop Yorkshire Rhubarb Parkin Crumb, Cote de Boeuf For 2, triple cooked chips, Mushroom, Blue Cheese Hollandaise, and finished off with two sweets, Rhubarb & Custard and Assiette of Chocolate.
Fantastic food and extremely friendly, polite and attentive service from the Restaurant Manager and all his staff.
Overall we had a brilliant and relaxing stay and would highly recommend this hotel and its food.

Saltmarshe Hall is set in a lovely remote location with beautiful surroundings. Our stay included a 3-course dinner and breakfast the following day. The food was lovely (presentation amazing) and there were plenty of gluten-free options (dinner and breakfast) which was great to see. The staff was also attentive and friendly.

Our room was average (Yokefleet NW) however, it was cold on arrival and then boiling overnight so we had to open all of the windows. Also, our shower was not hot instead we could only get the water to run at a tepid temperature from both the handheld showerhead and the rainfall shower, which was not enjoyable.

Strangely, there was not a phone in the room so we were unable to report this while we were getting ready for dinner. On arrival for dinner we spoke to a member of staff about the shower who explained that they would look at the boiler ready for the morning however, we had the same issue the following day and so could not shower. Hot water was coming out of the sink.

As a side-note, I think phones in the rooms are necessary as we were a fair distance from the main house and would have struggled to contact anyone during the night if we needed to.

Overall the stay was pleasant but unfortunately I don't think we would return.

We traveled recently for the dinner, bed and breakfast offer and overall had a lovely time. Unfortunately the hall needed some TLC in places and it gave the impression of things being quite dated and a lack of upkeep and maintenance. The paint was flaking off all the windows outside which looked shabby, this was particularly visible when we were sitting under the terrace at dinner and when we were taking a walk round the hall to look at the grounds. There were scuffs and marks on a few of the walls inside which needed touching up, for example going up the stairs to the bedrooms these were visible on the walls which was a shame because its such a lovely feature of the house. In our bedroom there was a dead fly on our windowsill and the bedside table was dusty which was quite alarming in the new Covid world, I would expect everything in the room to be sparkling clean. There was also a smell of drains in the toilet next to the dinner terrace, again under current circumstances you want everything to be smelling fresh and clean. I want to be clear that none of these points completely took away from a nice stay, friendly staff, great food and beautiful grounds but they would make me think twice about visiting again when there is such competition in this industry. Personally I just feel that this place could be brilliant if some money was spent on upkeep and updating.

We went on Saturday 24th April 2021 (two adults and one child), we were seated to our table by Diane who is so amazing and was such a delight to meet. The food was so wonderfully presented with superb flavours and great variety. We had coffee and waters throughout the meal as well. If you have never been to Saltmarshe Hall then it really is a must see place to visit and stay for the weekend. The tables were very well spaced out and fantastic social distancing measures were throughout the hotel and dining areas. The General Manager Kate gave us all such a warm welcome too, and we were made to feel more like friends than visiting guest. Massive shout out to Diane who really provided us with probably the best customer service that we have received in years!

I had heard the chef currently at Saltmarshe hall was something to shout about so with this in mind I booked a meal for 15 people for my mothers birthday earlier this month.

OMG. We all felt like like royalty the way we were served from EVERY member of staff. When we arrived they told us (without us even requesting) that they had seated us in a private dining room to enjoy what I can only call a dining experience! WOW.

Everyone at Saltmarshe exceeded my expecations with their service but the best thing I will say was the food. A party of 15 served in a timely susinct mannor and the taste of the food - even better. I had heard the food was outstanding and thats the exact word I would use. I paid £40 for a 3 course beautiful meal and I would have expected food of that quality to cost at least £90 for the courses and the standard.

I will be back and bring more friends, next time we plan to stay over also. Would highly recomend!

Have just completed running my Wellness Retreat at Saltmarshe. I have to say, James, you are a true Master in your trade! You were nothing short of perfect in every way.
Thank you also to the simply incredible Chef! This food has to be the best food I’ve ever seen and tasted. What an amazing spread! All 13 ladies raved about it.
Also huge credit goes to the two hospitality ladies. Beautiful smiles and treated my guests like VIP’s.
I would be booking you again in a heartbeat was it not for the horrifying experience with Kate the General Manager. I was promised an exclusive venue and then I find out 5 days before that they are running a Mother's and Daughters Afternoon Tea. I was promised 3 rooms, I received one. We had to eat outside on a rainy day as I I couldn't use one room for meditation, yoga, workshops and breakfast & lunch. We had nowhere for anybody to leave all of the bags, yoga mats, coats, blankets etc so had to stack them against the wall in the room we were using. The stress caused by this lady and the anxiety I ended up experiencing through total lack of communication or organisation unfortunately means I cannot book another event. I have unfortunately taken these events to another Hotel. I was also emailed by her and told that I had caused her Manager to go off sick after turning up at the Hotel asking to speak to her. She also told me, in email, never to turn up at her Hotel dictating to speak to a Manager again and it is her Hotel to run and next time make sure I speak to her. This goes on and on and on. It was a disaster!
I wish I could clone James and the rest of Team and hire them for my other events.
Thank you for saving the day James!

We got married at Saltmarshe this August and it was totally perfect. The grounds are so well kept, we got married outside by the pond and used all of the garden space throughout the day; the house itself is beautiful - traditional but modern and the suites/rooms are stunning. The staff are incredible, they personalised the day to us, and kept everything running smoothly on the day itself. Nothing was too much trouble. The food at the wedding breakfast was brilliant and the evening pizza was excellent. If you’re an engaged couple considering Saltmarshe, cannot encourage you enough - get it booked!

This is a real find, and although I want to give a great review, I also want it to stay a secret!!

The hotel only has 14 rooms, and we managed to take a look at quite a few of them, thanks to Tracey (I think that is here name, Head of Housekeeping). They are all excellent, but all quite different, so worth choosing the one that you like when booking.

We were almost the first guests after the lockdown ended in April, and we received a really warm welcome from all the staff, not just from the hotel, but the ground staff as well.

We stayed 5 nights and ate in the restaurant each night. Food was excellent, and the chef went out of his way to change the menu around, so that we had some additional dishes each evening.

Great location for exploring the area, but we wanted a place where we could just grab a book or some music and plonk ourselves down for the day, and just chill out. The library was absolutely perfect for this, very comfortable and peaceful. There were weddings on while we were there, but they do a great job of keeping these separate from the hotel guests.

Fantastic bar area, which most hotels seem to lack. I think they are looking to relocate it, so hopefully they will not lose any of the ambience and style.

Special mention for Levi, who made us feel very special. There were others, but I have left it 3 months to post my review, so names are not coming readily to mind.

We have already booked our return in January, so hope to see the log fires roaring then.

As you can see I think this place is excellent.
