Just recently spent a weekend at Norton Park and Spa Hotel for a weekend festival (Fri to Sun). We booked an extra night on Thursday at £97 per night per room. On arrival reception staff were very pleasant and asked if we would like to set up a charge card to the room, which we agreed. Room was very small especially the bathroom. The shower door wouldn't shut at the bottom once in the shower. Towel rail was behind the toilet system and couldn't be reached if your short in stature, the same with hooks on back of bathroom door. The chairs in the room were very thread bear as well.

Tried to use charge card 3 separate times during the weekend and were told we didn't have a charge card to our room, it didn't become very funny after the 3rd time.

A table was booked in the restaurant for 8pm, which everyone was sat down by. After taken our order it took an hour before we got our starter. Service was very slow the whole evening considering there was only approximately 6 other guest in the restaurant who were coming to the end of their meal.

We could honestly say that we don't think this extra night warranted £97 per night even with breakfast, which was all self service including the full English. Honestly can say couldn't recommend this to hotel to family or friends. Remembering this is only our opinion and everyone has different opinion.

Booked the overnight spa package for 4 of us as a birthday celebration.

Firstly, the hotel is not the lovely Manor House in the photos, it’s a conference centre attached! You can book feature rooms apparently but was not offered as an option when I booked.

I booked 2 interconnected twin rooms. Upon check in I checked they were interconnected and was told “yes, they are opposite each other across the hallway” .... so not interconnected at all then?!

Eventually found the right room but had to be a double and a twin, which was ok by us. We were told our room wasn’t ready (nor were the first ones) so had to wait. This then made us 20 minutes late for our 1 hour pool slot which we could not extend.

The steam room & sauna were not in use, I understand why but would have been helpful to have been told when I phoned in advance to ask if everything was open.

Our rooms were fine. They were however a good 5 minute hike through the warren of corridors from reception, something to bear in mind if mobility is an issue.

The restaurant was in the Norton Suite conference hall for social distancing purposes. The menu was extremely limited. The food was inconsistent, the fish & chip bites starter was enormous, as was the chicken wings but the tzatziki starter was 2 small dips and 3 dry breadsticks. All cost the same?!
The food was pretty average if I’m honest. The wine we had was nasty and overpriced. The staff were friendly although clearly overstretched.
Breakfast buffet was ok, no queues but the nasty tasteless catering sausages were a big let down.

Had a 50 minute Elemis treatment at the spa and this was fabulous! Absolutely the highlight of the stay no question.

The hotel agreed we could keep one of our rooms until 1pm to allow us to shower & change after treatments so that was pretty good, they did try to charge us £20 initially until I pointed out they do not have alternative changing or shower facilities at the spa!

We booked a Hendricks gin afternoon tea in the Scene bar.
Ryan who served us brought up gin with loads of tonic already poured in it, no cucumber garnish or anything. There was no gin in it! He finally put another shot in each when we all told him it was just a glass of tonic!
The cake & sandwiches stand was brought to the table, all very lovely. When we asked for tea, got a very strange look and he then asked “what, you want tea as well?” We said “errr yes, it’s afternoon TEA!” Hilarious.
He then seemed to pluck a figure out of the air when we asked for the bill. We queried it and he came out with a completely different price.
To be fair to them, the bar manager took some money off when we told her about our below par gins.

Overall it was a pleasant stay and they are doing what they can within stringent COVID regulations. Could do with making the reduced menu a bit more obvious on the website, so people can make an informed choice before booking. Also a little warning about how far you might be trekking to your room would be great.

My husband and I stayed at the Norton Park hotel for 2 nights. We were a bit concerned after reading the reviews but were pleasantly surprised and blown away by the amazing service. We had dinner in the restaurant and yes, it is being held in a conference room but we were fully understanding that this is necessary to ensure safe social distancing. Breakfast was a buffet but there were two lovely girls serving us and the self service drinks area was adequately supplied with sanitising wipes in order to keep the touch points safe. We think management are doing a great job during very trying times keeping guests and staff happy and safe.

Oh boy , don’t expect much
We like others, had a 2 day voucher purchased through Travelzoo , believe me it’s not the bargain it seems
The room was average in size with clean sheets but the room smelled of damp and mould which emanated from the dirty shower with thick black slime around the shower base .
But what is really awful about this hotel is the restaurant. We arrived for dinner on the first night at 8pm ( not late) there is an extremely limited set menu of which several items were also not available. I had steak n chips and asked for vegetables but no veg was available, the meat was gristle, it was cold and inedible
Breakfast was a joke, long queues, cold plates , food was poor quality, overcooked and tepid . Seriously recommend people take a short car ride to the nearby Coach and Horses where food is hot nutritious and good value
My advice for Norton Park is to get their act together, doesn’t take much to address the housekeeping issues and to sort out both the service and facilities in the restaurant. Staff are friendly but too few in numbers. BTW I did speak to receptionist about issues raised

We spent two nights here on spa weekend but very low quality establishment with dated, run down decor and low cleanliness levels. There are lots of signs up in the hotel about how guests must adhere to rules for C19 purposes but sadly the hotel cannot achieve even basic cleanliness standards. This applies to not just their everyday cleaning but threadbare furniture, linen and dirty towels, shower curtain and bedding is woefully inadequate even by pre C19 standards.

The website is misleading as it shows the Manor House as a main feature when actually there are only a few rooms in it, mainly meeting rooms and the main hotel is simply a non-descript, soulless conference centre.

Fire doors were propped open for no reason, noise of the busy road can be heard and pool area is dirty and unhygienic with no regular cleaning or maintenance.

Breakfast was unimpressive with paper cups for coffee and tea, limited choice and unclean crockery.

Bath had not been cleaned since previous guests, found previous guest’s driver licence (with personal data on it) and glasses in drawer (also unclean), threadbare sheet on bed and no mattress cover, many of the glasses in the bar and plates at breakfast were unclean and so it goes on.

The staff were all friendly and tried to assist but this hotel is very below standard, needs money spent on it and is best avoided until the management/owners invest in it and make it C19 safe.

The lack of cleaning you describe is something that is simply unacceptable at our hotel and I’ve already discussed your feedback with our housekeeping team, who take pride in the hotel and are making sure that all bedrooms are as clean as possible. Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback. Best wishes, Steve Lawson General Manager

Despite lockdown which forced an earlier cancellation of our trip to Norton Park, once they reopened we were eager to visit with good friends.
We opted to upgrade our rooms which were sited in the Manor House (see picture) and were not disappointed.
Only a short walk from the main hotel the rooms were very distinct and perhaps considered by some an extravagant extra. This being a first chance to break out after lockdown it was worth it and the room sizes allowed us to gather for pre-dinner drinks away from the main bar where social distancing prevailed.
Breakfasts were adequate under the circumstances but dinner was not so good due to limitations on the menu and still being relatively quiet and with restrictions, perhaps understandable - we therefore chose to dine out in Winchester for 2 of our 3 night stay.
The grounds need some TLC although this was again understandable - nevertheless we enjoyed lunches on the terrace and service was good with a fair menu of snacks available, which again and under the circumstances, was acceptable.
The rest of the hotel was modern, nicely laid out and the pool and gym, although we didn’t partake, looked very good.
Staff including housekeeping were very friendly and helpful, and despite daily bed making and general cleaning being limited due to COVID19, we were quite satisfied with the state of our rooms and not affected by the need to make our own bed.
All told, a very satisfying break for the first time in nearly 6 months so no complaints.

We booked four nights for our anniversary and my husband’s birthday. We checked in to a reasonable sized room but it was dark as it faced almost the back of a building and a bramble hedge and smelt un fresh. This room was allocated to us even by requesting a room with a nice view if possible 1 week before our arrival date.
We explained to reception we were not happy with the room and we were given another room in the Manor House part of the hotel which was slightly better but a much smaller room unfortunately. The room was adequate but the light had several dead insects in it.The toilet flush was extremely difficult to flush and almost hurt your fingers to press it.Also the bed was very poor quality with a thin duvet and we had to ask for another duvet to put on the bed as you could feel some of springs from the bed when you lay down. Also the heated towel rail didn’t work and finally when we tried to open the curtain it just collapsed as it appeared very old. When we reported the problems we were told by reception that the maintenance person was busy, and then told that he wasn’t on duty that day. The next day someone came round to our room and took down the curtains and left us only the thin net curtain with little privacy as the windows faced where the front door was and in front of the parking area and woke us up very early with the daylight. The breakfast was very poor with little selection of food and the hot breakfast food was only lukewarm and some items had run out with a long queue with a short sitting time of 1.5 hours as we were told that breakfast was served from 07.30 till 09.00 but it really was until 09.30 but we weren’t informed about that. Overall most of the staff were very friendly and helpful especially the housekeeping team and the breakfast staff. Two members of staff stood out and were very good by the name of Lisa in housekeeping and Shirley who was dealing with the breakfast. The leisure facilities looked okay although we didn’t use them.
Overall a very disappointing experience for a 4 STAR Hotel and we felt the staff were trying their best but not enough of them and a lack of investment in the hotel which is a pity as the hotel is in a lovely country location certainly not utilised to its full potential. Even upon leaving we were not even asked if our stay was okay and the supervisor that changed our room was not very pleasant to us.

Things you should know about the property are most of the rooms are accessed via an outside walkway which is covered but cold, with slippery wet patches on it and a permanent wet floor signs. I slipped and so did a small child on their way to breakfast.

For some reason there are small shards of glass found on the carpet while we were there and I’ll stay in separate occasions.

The bed was dated and uncomfortable. I put two cans of Coke in the fridge and it seemed to be burning out because it couldn’t cope with that, there was a burning smell. the room was incredibly small and in the morning the housekeeping team entered twice (they apologised straight away) but there was no door hanger to say please do not disturb which they mention in the welcome book in the bedroom.

We didn’t have dinner included in our package but we did go down for dinner, it was expensive. We arrived at 7:15 and left at 9:30, service was incredibly slow and I returned my cheeseboard because it was not as advertised and disgusting.

Breakfast was very greasy and there was some confusion over the timings for breakfast I arrived at 10:15 with breakfast stopping at 10:30 and people were being turned away because apparently Breakfast was finished at 9:30. on the front desk it said breakfast was 10.30 in the brochure for that particular day it said 11 but the staff that morning, one woman in particular, said it 9.30 and was quite rude about it. Customers were visibly upset about this and
Other people already sat having breakfast had to back this up so that the couple were allowed to sit for breakfast.

It’s also a very cold hotel there didn’t seem to be any heating in the communal areas . Our bedroom had a radiator which you could turn up and we did and it was fine. All corridors, the restaurant and downstairs bar were very cold. When I asked about this they told me it was because the doors have been left open all the time. The woman on reception told me that the heating had broken. There seems to be some confusion over that but all in all you would not sit in that bar because it was so cold- they are probably losing business because of it!

We paid £85.00 for our stay and £90 for dinner.

Before leaving I asked to speak to the manager. The manager of the spa arrived, she noted my concerns and apologised. She seemed surprised about the mention of how cold it was.

I appreciate that they noted mr concerns and said they would pass it on to the relevant teams.
I don’t think I got what I paid for, I had to ask for a refund and stated that I believe a partial refund is due because it was up to standard. I received a full refund and awkwardness on the managers part.

I don’t know how this is a four star hotel. The previous 5 nights were spent at a holiday inn. No complaints from customers, no issues with service and a lot cheaper! There didn’t seem to be any happy customers in the hotel for the one night we stayed!

The outside looks promising but too many faults. Wrong room allocated, room key only worked for 24 hours in spite of a 3 day stay, meals were overpriced and poor quality, too many items not available on menu, thermos tea and coffee at breakfast which was horrid. Abandoned dinner on final night and had excellent meal in a Stockbridge pub. There were no hand rails on bath so not possible for me to have a bath. I'm not disabled but I need some support to get in and out of a bath. We won't be back.
