Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Arrived at 5pm after a very long drive. Place in darkness, main door shut. Finally got an answer at side door young lad let us in. Our room ( the only one left apparently) was at the top of the building ( no lifts) Room did not resemble any of the pictures on the booking.com website. Stained bedding, filthy bath & shower taps. Bathroom absolutely stinks of stale tobacco & to top it off a rancid radiator/towel rack. Grimy is a understatement. Slept on top of the beds fully clothed & got out first thing. Swerving our paid for breakfast as we did. How this place has any good reviews is mind boggling I can only think they come from the owner’s themselves, AVOID !!!

The windows and bath were covered with black mould and it stank like an ashtray. The bathroom window pane was broken with wind howling in and the room was cold as ice. Literally not fit for human habitation. At least they gave us the refund ASAP. Went elsewhere.

We arrived at the hotel in the summer to a friendly welcome from the helpful and enthusiastic staff but with low expectations for our experience after reading previous reviews on this site. Accessing our room required a steep climb up several floors of stairs, as there was no lift, meaning elderly customers would need to book a room on the ground floor. The room was very clean, comfortable, cosy and more than adequate for our needs, and we all enjoyed a good night's sleep in the comfortable beds. We were very impressed with the standard of the food, which was beautifully cooked by the chef Buddhi, who would have easily qualified to work in a much higher grade restaurant, although there was limited choice for meals and no desserts on the menu, however what was available was thoroughly enjoyable. As we stayed under the half-board, which we found very worthwhile, the quality of the meals we had surpassed our expectations. The front of house staff member, Isuru, was very friendly and knowledgeable, and nothing seemed too much trouble for him; he was always approachable and catered to all our needs. However, we discovered a restaurant menu in our room which was out of date, so don't depend on this for the meals available. Overall, we found our stay very enjoyable, excellent value for money and the staff extremely personable, as well as the wonderful food. If you have realistic expectations and are looking for a comfortable, budget hotel for a family break or business trip, you will not be disappointed. We would definitely recommend. The Wrench family.

Lovely landlord. Not sure about the staff, seemed more like a playground behind the bar, the beer however was disgusting! I think they need to clean the pipes it was fowl! Bottled beer is recommended, but other than that the owners nice and tidy in there not somewhere I’d go for my local very dark lights off no music on but would pop in now and again

This is my 7th time to the Royal and looking forward to returning in a few months. This is a old hotel that has character and a big staircase (so make sure you pack light). The rooms are large and spacious and each one is being done up a bit at a time. The staff are always very friendly and happy to accommodate any needs such as towels or an ironing board. It's central to Sheerness and you can walk everywhere. Room 9 is my favourite, however room 12 is nice as well as 11. Rooms 1 and 2 have been done up and are nice too. 👍

Horrible horrible horrible. Do not stay here if you want to be kept up all night by loud music (I was here 5 nights for work) and less than single glazed windows, with no house keeping (no change of towels, bin, tea), no phone in the room, poor WiFi, and no tv channels working, no heating, electricity was cut off, no main light working, no staff present during my stay and no parking at all in the area.

The location is ideal to visit the high street of sheerness with many shops around and a clean beach minutes away. The hotel room was clean and comfortable with all the basic amentities to meet our needs. We were staying half board and the team went out of their way to provide us with delicious and freshly cooked meals.

The room was very conducive. I slept very well knowing myself as someone that find it difficult to sleep in a new environment. The building is quite old but very clean hotel . I can’t fault anything.

We arrived to the hotel and the main entrance was locked so we proceeded to the bar entrance and was welcomed to many unsociable clientele. We then settled in our rooms and decided to venture downstairs for some food and drinks. It was a Friday evening and it was fairly busy but with lots of very drunk people and we did not feel safe as no security or door staff .But as a hotel should you need it. The rooms are very basic hence the price.

The accommodation was extremely comfortable and clean. Very close to a peaceful beachside. Additionally the food was top class, we were a half board stay and definitely would recommend this hotel for anyone staying in and around Kent.
