A watermill built atop the River Wensum in 1757 is now a beautiful country pub, set in the heart of the glorious Norfolk countryside. We have recently refurbished this historic building to create a haven for pub lovers and foodies. Our relaxing guest bedrooms all have soothing views of the gardens and river, making them the perfect place to relax and unwind. Located near the Georgian market town of Fakenham, Sculthorpe Mill is surrounded by opulent farming land, and next door to the Hawk an Owl Trust – a haven for nature lover and walkers alike. For those looking for the pleasures of the beach, Sculthorpe Mill is just a stone’s throw from the stunning North Norfolk Coast. The stately homes of Sandringham, Houghton and Holkham are all within a 20 minute drive.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We enjoyed the perfect stay over Easter. The setting was gorgeous, room was gorgeous, and it included such a fantastic breakfast. The restaurant was also superb when we ate there in the evening, the pub was so cosy, and the beer garden was bliss! Having our dog with us really was the icing on the cake! (Even if he didn’t get any of the breakfast!)

Came up to the area to collect a purchase I’d made online. Traveled over 4 hours to get up here. I did a quick search for a place to have a quick bite. From the second I walked in I could tell that this place was special. The team were all pleasant without being intrusive, service was excellent, the server sat me down in a quiet corner, looking out the window I could see the river, just stunning. If I lived closer this place would 1000000% become my local! I’m very pleased I popped in, thanks a bunch to the wonderful team, I had a truly wonder time! Oh cant forget to mention the food!! It’s exceptional

The grounds are the main selling point, so visit in good warm weather. The food was reasonable, the service was good. Plenty of parking and a lovely view of the river. Mid-range pricing helps too. One to go back to.

The great thing about the mill is location, at the end of a small country road you come upon this unique setting. Having been taken over not to long ago it has undergone a lot of refurbishment, all to the good. We were greeted on arrival by a nice lady and shown to the room (room 4 ) which was on the 2nd floor with 2 windows giving great views of the river Wensum and surrounding fields. There is a large garden area to sit and have a drink or to eat outside. The evening meal was well prepared and filling and obviously a hit with locals as it was very busy but the staff were very efficient and nobody was keep waiting. Breakfast taken in a lovely decorated room. The choice of cereals was a bit limited but the cooked food excellent. What a place to take an evening stroll by the mill pond and watch the bats. The mill has been recommended in The Times newspaper and deserved the mention.

The setting is beautiful Hoped there would be a gluten free menu but none they don’t seem to cater for people who don’t eat meat and also have food intolerance. Some vegetarian gf dishes would be nice. Ended up with a very small starter and expensive portion of chips as nothing in the main menu appealed or I could eat.apparently they had run out of fish. I think the food is very over rated and highly priced . Experience not that great Wont be returning.

Stopped for food on bank holiday Sunday evening, we were shown a bbq menu and told to sit in the garden and order at the bar when ready. Went to the bar to order and heard other people being offered restaurant or bbq, questioned this and was fobbed off! Went out to wait for food which arrived fairly promptly, we ordered the beef hot dog (which was very cheep quality and not that great) and fries (arrived as chips!) asked for salt and waiter came back with pepper! Had to also ask for some cutlery, never had a check back on the food and didn’t even get given a napkin to wipe our mouthed or hands. Very strange atmosphere not sure I would revisit which is a shame as the garden area was lovely ( music was a bit loud for a peaceful country setting)

My husband and I have just spent an idyllic three days at the hotel, the drive up and the first impression was stunning. From the moment we walked in the door and were greeted by Michael we felt welcomed and comfortable. The staff we all amazing and whilst being busy always took time to answer questions or just stop and chat with us if we so chose, no request was either too large or too small. We were shown to our room and our luggage was carried up for us, the room itself was very pretty, clean and comfortable with amazing views over the garden and countryside, and it was kept clean and tidy for us at all times. Mealtimes were lovely, all the food was delicious and presented well, if we asked for any changes these were handled without fuss. The breakfasts were also very tasty. In fact the whole experience could not be faulted. We were able to get some names, so thank you to Michael, Ian, Rachel, Tiffany, Harry, Tegan, Bianca and Siobhan. But also please give a big shout out to all the staff on shifts during our stay. They made it special, we will definitely be coming back.

I will keep this brief, as we never got to taste the food, since the items we wanted to choose from the bar menu were no longer available. When we first tried the mill a few years ago, the mixed fish fry up and the sweetcorn fritters were the stars of the bar menu and we really loved them; they were still on the website's bar menu today! Having ordered them, we were told shortly afterwards that the fish at least was not available and the fritters weren't even on the printed bar menu we were given , so we finished our drinks and left, with regret. This visit was supposed to be a pre-birthday treat for me, so we were very disappointed, to say the least. I know many businesses in the hospitality sector are struggling these days, but if an establishment can't give customers what they actually want, perhaps it won't be around much longer, despite the PR hype in the regional press.

Came here to celebrate my sisters birthday. As it was a Sunday we all expected a Sunday lunch menu i.e. Sunday roast as well as normal menu. We did not have an option for a Sunday roast so had to choose from the menu we were given. Very disappointed with the choice, not to everyone's taste, portion sizes and prices. I have had much better at other restaurants and for less money. Would not bother coming here again as can get better food elsewhere. Some of the guests were still hungry after. Cannot fault the staff though, they were very helpful and efficient.
