We stayed at the Ibis at Birmingham Airport for one night in June before flying out on an early flight the following day. We booked our stay through Holiday Extras together with a week’s parking with Short Run parking which is 2 or 3 miles away (transport included to and from the car park). This hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from the main departures entrance. We stayed in Room 404 on the 4th floor. It was a clean, compact and comfy room. It was quiet even though the restaurant and bar downstairs were busy and noisy. The bar stays open till quite late and was rather disorganized but we just had a quick drink and then off to bed. Our room had a large double bed, long desk area, phone, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, large TV on the wall and a small wardrobe area. The bathroom was clean with a very spacious shower, nice thick towels and a few toiletries in dispensers. It was only as we were getting into bed that we realized that there was just one set of towels but we just made do as it was quite late and we didn’t fancy phoning down to reception to get a spare set send up. As the room was prepaid, checking out the next morning (at 5am) was easy as you just put the keys into a box on reception. This is a real budget hotel but fine for one night before getting an early flight.
Getting the pick-up bus from the airport to the Short Run car parks on our return was a bit of a shambles and poorly organized but that is not the problem or fault of the hotel – but we won’t be using Short Run again in the future.

basic rooms but perfectly maintained and clean. we stayed 2 nights .left a do not disturb sign out and a bag of fresh towels with toilet roll was left outside the door. The breakfast was good with as much as you wanted, coffee, tea juice full english, continental etc.
I must add that the staff were all very friendly and helpful, I do have a problem when walking along distance ans a member of staff did offer to wheelchair me to the airport. well done to your staff.

Stayed here for 1 night with my mum to attend the NEC. When we first arrived we were a bit put off by the £48 car park charge but then the hotel gives you a ticket that knocks it down to £12 for 24 hours. On checking in, we were told that our room was on the 7th floor but once the lady on reception found out my mum can’t use the lift she managed to move us to a room on the second floor. Unfortunately I didn’t catch her name but she was so helpful and friendly. All the staff were the same, nothing was too much trouble for them.
The room was small and quite basic but very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay.
Access to the NEC was great, we just hopped on the monorail and we were straight there.
We will definitely be booking for next year.
Breakfast was great, served buffet style and plenty to choose from.
The only small negatives we had were that the bathroom was quite plasticky but was clean and the shower was powerful. And there wasn’t a lot of coffee but could always ask at reception if we wanted more.

Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your review with us. It is true that the hotel is located very conveniently to the NEC but also to the airport which is 120 meters from our hotel door. I am also glad that the team looked very after your mum. It is always a pleasure to read such comments. I hope we will have the pleasure to welcoming you very soon at the Ibis Hotel Birmingham Airport.

Check in was fantastic, 2 female members of staff were very friendly and helpful with local knowledge. It's a shame the rest of their colleagues don't have this level of customer service or basic manners because it was all downhill from there. The room "air cooling/heating system" does neither, no matter how many times you read and follow the instructions. So pack ear plugs because if it's hot and the windows open, would you believe being so close to the airport is pretty noisy. The bedsheets don't fit and it took us 10 minutes to figure out how to turn on a lamp. Spoiler alert! The switch is nowhere near where you expect it. The worst part was after the atrocious meal my teenage son and I were served. Firstly I asked for our dirty, sticky table to be wiped and the member of staff used a scarcely wet, fabric cloth (instead of a more hygenic disposable paper towel/blue roll) despite also having a bottle of spray to hand. My cheeseburger bun was rock hard, half of his chicken fillet burger was so rubbery it was inedible, his drink was wrong despite correcting the person twice and I was told if I wanted sweet potato fries instead of regular fries, I had to pay full price to have them as a side and have them WITH regular fries. Chips with a side of chips, yum! I even offered to pay the difference to just have the chips I'd asked for and was told "no". Thankfully my son had gone up to the room and didn't have to witness the 2 members of staff shouting at me and being openly confrontational in the middle of the bar, at one point I was accused of "just wanting a refund". Other customers were staring, especially when the person that took our order leaned over the bar to begin pointing at me just to clarify to everyone who he was shouting at. Eventually one of them said "well I can get our manager and see what they say" but by this point I had been humiliated, intimated and tag team shouted at by 2 men, in front of a room full of strangers so I didnt hold out much hope for their managers input on the situation, so I just walked away. I don't drink alcohol so I know I wasn't being an intoxicated nuisance and sometimes due to my autism I can perhaps come across as a bit blunt. I wasn't looking for a refund but at the very least I was looking for an acceptable level of cleanliness, our order or be correct and edible but when any of these are unattainable for whatever reason, customer service 101 prompts an apology, not accusations and anxiety inducing situations.

I made this 772 mile round trip as a special treat for my son to enjoy an annual gaming festival at the NEC and we had a fantastic day. We planned to return to the hotel after a day of fun activities, eat and get some sleep before catching an early flight home to Scotland but this spoiled an amazing day. I thought staying near to the airport would alleviate some of the stress from my trip, it seems on this occasion I could not have been more wrong. I have never been spoken to like this and I will never return to be treated like that again.

We have used the IBIS previously, and found it to be comfortable and conveniently located.

This however, has changed.

We booked the IBIS to allow us to stay the night before our early morning flight, as the trains are not available at the time we are due to depart.

We paid in advance, and decided to include breakfast, as we have done previously. Breakfast was just under £20 for 2 people.

Upon check-in it was confirmed we had booked the room and breakfast was included. We were then advised that breakfast was served from 6:30am. This was far too late for our early flight.

I advised that our gate closes at 6:30am, so I would need to remove the breakfast from the booking as we would be unable to take it.

This request was refused, stating that as we had already paid, it would not be refunded.

I complained that I had used the breakfast on previous stays and we had not been advised of the change to a later opening time. It is also not stated on the hotel website (which is how I booked).

I received shrugged shoulders and told 'tough'. After I complained again, stating that the hotel is contracted to supply the services purchased, the receptionist said they would supply a cold continental breakfast to the room instead. I think this was partly due to the long line of customers waiting the check-in, plus a number hearing the conversation and leaving.

Needless to say nothing arrived at the time agreed.

One other problem I have with this hotel is the fact that when I decided to add the breakfast to my booking, I had to cancel the original booking and re-book. The original was on a flexible booking, so cancellation no problem. This is now 6 weeks ago and I have still not been refunded, so I have effectively had to pay twice. Luckily I used AMEX who are pursuing this for me.

Other comments about the hotel:

The bar never has enough staff, so you will wait a long time for drinks service and any food ordered to arrive. I heard complaints of over an hour from other guests using the bar area.

The room does not have air conditioning unless the outside temperature is over 20 degrees C, only heating. The rooms do get very hot, and unfortunately the windows have latches to stop them opening more than an inch, so you end up cooking if it's warm outside.

Good points:

It's close to the airport terminal....

Stayed here for 2 nights for the arnold show. I have stayed at a few different Ibis hotels now and this is the WORST hotel i have ever stayed in!
Firstly i tried to call 11 times before our stay to ask about carparking and they didn't answer once. Carparking is very expensive!! 2 night stay cost me £93!

When we arrived the room wasn't cleaned properly, the room was red hot (no air con), no bins in the room and it was very noisy but you are next to the airport.

When we came back from NEC the key card stopped working and i told the lady behind reception and said our room number is 211 and she said Mrs Xxxx (won't say the name) i said no that's not me. She then told me i had the WRONG HOTEL! When she checked me in the night before! I stayed the night before and all my things are in the room and if i find Mrs Xxxx in my room i won't be happy! Luckily there was no random lady in my room...

We nearly went back late the 2nd night because it was bad but we had an issue with deliveroo taking 3 hours for our delivery so at midnight i finally got my food but by then it was too late so we had to stay.

Morning of check out, a lady knocks on my door at 9am saying she wants to clean (even though check out is 12)

There was no one on reception when we checked out to say any of these issues.

We had breakfast because we had a long journey ahead and it was the bare minimum - it was just a cooked breakfast and a few slices of bread for toast and they didn't refill once empty!

Staff are very unhelpful and not friendly!
Do not stay here unless you need the airport!

Booked as part of park and stay for holiday. Usually when we park before we fly, it’s in on-airport carparks so surprised just how far out the linked carpark was and that the buses from the carpark to the airport were so infrequent. As it was Jan when we flew, it was cold and waiting for a bus for nearly 30 mins was not ideal. Paid extra when checking car in so that it was delivered to side of hotel when we came back and this was far more convenient for us and probably saved about an hour waiting for bus and driving away from car park rather than just being able to get on motorway quickly.

Check in at the hotel when we got there was very quick and easy. Rooms excellent for what we needed with tea/coffee, decent shower and comfy beds. Didn’t eat in evening as ate out, but the bar / restaurant was absolutely packed.

Again, due to time of flight, didn’t eat breakfast so cannot comment on food. For convenience, hotel is spot on, although would have preferred more convenient car park location if using again.

I booked this hotel to go to the NEC.
I parked at Birmingham International train station, £12 for 24hrs, then got the free monorail to the airport. The ibis is just outside arrivals. (I was told I could park at NCP Car parks 2 and 3 and the hotel would give me a voucher to bring the price down as an alternate. Car park 3 is opposite the entrance to the hotel)
The rooms were nice and clean with a very large TV.
To get to the NEC you get back on the monorail to Birmingham International train station and there is an inside walkway directly into the NEC. The monorail takes about 90 seconds from airport to station.

We ate at Resorts World which is just outside the NEC. Even if the NEC is closed you can still walk through it to the monorail.

If you're looking to stay somewhere when visiting the NEC I would say this is the perfect location and it is less than the other hotels around but rooms are modern and beds comfortable.

Whether you turn left or right when you leave the Ibis it’s just 1 minute to the airport. Although the price was an eye watering £100 for a night, I did get 10% off that by booking through ebookers, & a bit more by going through TCB. I requested a quiet room & I’m sure we were the only people on the top floor as we never heard a sound up there. Thanks so much for the male staff that booked us in on 20 Nov. We (MrDW & I, not the make staff) went to the restaurant & shared a pizza as we weren’t very hungry, & it was plenty for us. He had a cider, & me a glass of red. The bill was just over £20 so you can’t grumble really. The room was fine & I think it was one of the updated ones. Please give us some extra tea, coffee, & milk next time though if we’re paying top dollar for our room. I love the little bathroom & want one exactly like it for my own at home. Staff’s always lovely here too.

Received a warm welcome at check in.
Within a few minutes we were In our room which we found very clean and cozy.
Bathroom was kitted out with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in the shower area.Wash are has liquid soap supplied.
Sleeping area had good electrical socket availability if needed.
We had a kettle with tea, coffee, milk and sugar/sweetener.
Wardrobes for hanging clothes with extra bedding and a hairdryer if needed.

Restaurant staff like the other staff are extremely friendly and even enjoy banter with the customers.
We had breakfast which is a buffet style.
Food is cooked perfectly and clean with very little grease on the fried items.
Nice atmosphere in the restaurant.
It’s very hard to find fault anyway in the hotel.
