Detailed Reviews
I had organised a walking holiday for a Ramblers group with the Finca. We arrived on the 14th March just before the Spanish Government announced their lockdown of the whole country.
Much has been said about the hotel and it's excellent facilities and the friendliness of the welcome. So this review is to say how well Sue & Gordon, the hotel owners, and the few staff that were allowed to support us, dealt with a rapidly changing and difficult situation. Something that shows the true value of a great hotel, its owners and staff.
As the Sunday was not affected, the most interesting and demanding walk was decided on with Nick, our walking guide who was provided by the Finca. The walk was split into 3 parts so that all of us (20 in total) with different walking abilities were able to take part. The hardiest of us tackled the steep first ascent with the remainder being taken by Sue and Gordon to the start of the middle and easiest section. Hot chocolate was provided by Sue and Gordon at this point, very welcome! We saw some great views despite the clouds. Some of the party were then taken back to the hotel whilst the remainder of us tackled the sometimes tricky and loose path back to the finish. The finish was the Fabrica a local beauty spot, a really nice place to end our only walk.
Sue and Gordon then helped us with ideas and facilities to allow our stay for the rest of the week to be as pleasant as possible. We were restricted to the hotel grounds and only two to be seen out at any one time. Social distancing was also strictly observed. However we did manage distant quizzes, a painting challenge and a photo competition done electronically and remote from each other using the Finca's internet.
Food was provided at an excellent standard by Debbie the chef and the staff still managed to keep our rooms well serviced whilst we were in other parts of the hotel.
It was necessary for some of the party to be certain that they would be back in the UK by the next week, Sue was instrumental in finding out flight availability and assisted with bookings, printing out boarding passes and arranging transport to the airport for those who left early. We were kept informed of the rapidly changing developments, locally in Spain as a whole and in the UK by Sue and Gordon. The rest of the party left as scheduled on the BA Flight on the Saturday (21st).
Our stay was made as pleasant as circumstances permitted. Sue, Gordon and the rest of the staff were put under great strain during our stay due to the constant uncertainty of the situation.
Their professionalism and the way they kept cheerful and took difficult but necessary decisions to keep us safe and yet happy is a testament to the excellence of their management.
Feedback from the rest of the party has been very positive. All enjoyed the time at the Finca, despite not being able to walk as planned. We will be back (all being well) in April next year to do the walks we missed.
Thank you for making a silk purse out of what was a veritable pigs ear of a situation.

Our first foreign trip since before Covid, and well worth the wait. We've visited the Finca several times in the 20 years it's been open, this time with a group of friends for a walking holiday.
We love coming back. Gordon & Sue, the English owners, have created a haven full of peace, wonderful views, great food and delightful staff. The 14 rooms are situated in an extensive former olive mill which they have painstakingly redeveloped, with grounds spilling down the hillside. Rooms are sizeable, some with a balcony or terrace. There's no end of sheltered, shady places to sit and relax (with a drink from the honesty bar!), as well as a pool and an extensive treehouse (built by Gordon, with seating for around a dozen!) created around a very old olive tree.
The small towns of Canillas de Albaida and Competa are a walk or a short taxi ride away, and Gordon & Sue organised those for us, as well as wine tasting at the local bodega, a catamaran trip along the coast and bookings at local restaurants. Nothing was too much trouble for them and their staff.
Another wonderful week - thank you so much to both of you, and see you again soon!

We had seen the reviews and been recommended this place and were a bit concerned that it wouldn't live up to the hype. It did.
We felt that the owners and staff really cared about us and did their best to make us comfortable. If you had forgotten your walking stick or hat, they have a collection.
There are pool towels and blankets if you are chilly in the evening when eating outdoors.
Our room was really quirky and had its own terrace, which was great; the bathroom had a heated floor. There are plenty of shady spots to sit; we played petanque under the trees after our walk, or swam in the unheated pool.
Breakfast was a simple affair of fresh fruit salad and yoghurt, honey, muesli, ham, boiled eggs, cheese and bread and butter. Dinner was 3 courses and beautifully cooked. Our 2 meals in local restaurants were very good.
You can walk into the village, but it's not an easy walk. The hotel arranged taxi transfers for us for restaurant visits and to and from walks if necessary. They also picked us up at the airport and dropped us off at the end of the week either at the airport or the train station.
We had tried several times to book here without success, and we now know why.

A wonderful stay, fabulous room, in lush garden surroundings. Throughout there are places to enjoy the views in solitude or share with friends. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the owners, Sue and Gordon, go out of their way to ensure a special experience for all. Meals are delicious and are communal where the day's experiences can be shared though that part of the holiday we could not enjoy as we were isolating because of covid. But our partial isolation didn't much detract from our stay. And the local walking is lovely though quite demanding. Totally recommended.

We stayed at the Finca as part of a larger group of walkers for a week of organised walks. The Finca is beautiful, full of character and charm and set in beautiful surroundings with breathtaking views.
Sue and Gordon are fantastic hosts, accommodating and helpful and great fun. The organised walks were really enjoyable and of varying levels of difficulty with local guides, taking in local villages, local food (for lunch and dinner) and drink.
The food at the Finca was super, varied breakfasts, great dinners and a well stocked honesty bar.
We will definitely be going back!!

We went for an art / craft week in Jun this year. We had an excellent time, including
2 dinners out and breakfast at a beauty spot, cooked by Gordon to say nothing of the visit to the market at Torre del Mar. Owners Gordon and Sue just can't do enough to help. Going in November for our 5th visit and again in June 2023. It's like going to a friends for a house party. Brilliant!! Excellent for art, walking and the like but less good if you want to go places beyond the Finca though they will arrange taxis for you. Probably not good for a typical family holiday but fabulous if you want to chill.

Our third visit in 15 years and booked again for 2021. This is a holiday where all the effort is done for you. Everything included in our walking holiday except one lunch and extras at the honesty bar. It's not just comfortable hotel rooms, good food, and, on our week, excellent guided walks but the delightfully relaxed and happy atmosphere that Sue and Gordon radiate from the moment you arrive. No wonder they get so many return customers and retain such delightful staff. It all adds up to a very special feel on this holiday, not just a customer but a new friend.

Finca el Cerillo is the most charming and enchanting place I have ever been to. The rooms, gardens and terraces are beautiful and there are quirky corners wherever you look. The food is exceptional and the staff are wonderful. I run painting holidays here and we are never short of inspiration! We are looked after so well from the moment we arrive and when we sadly have to leave we take away a little of the finca magic in our memories.

Suggest you give the Finca a bell and ask them. They may well have them in the studio
We were on holiday here in May and we paid by credit card for our bar bill at the end of our holiday. The hotel also has pool towels at no extra cost.
