We had a beautiful located room with a stunning view on the jungle.

The food was great at any time of the day, a lot of attention to detail and good taste.

The room was equipped with a fan, small sink, shower (refreshing) and western toilet.

Joni is super friendly and accommodating and Putra, who arranged some day trips, was great as well. They made sure we had an unforgettable experience. I can highly recommend choosing to stay in Tangkahan over Bukit Lewang (very touristy, we did a day trip) if you're on the fence about where to go in the area.

I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Tangkahan!

These guys were so so welcoming and lovely, we honestly felt like locals!
When we arrived we sat to take in the beautiful view of the jungle and the river with a cup of tea. After about 10 minutes Nanta (one of the guys) saw something moving in the treetops and told us he thinks it could be an Orang Utang, which is very rare here as they are wild. (Not like bukit lawang!!) So he asked if we'd like to go across the river and see if we could find it!! Our answer was of course YES!!

We quickly got changed and ran down the steps to the river and crossed over with the guys! When we reached the other side, we were in thick jungle and we followed Nanta and Junius up through the elephant trails. Within minutes we saw a male orang Utan sat up above us in the trees eating fruit and building a nest. We watched for a while and Nanta searched the area, he also spotted a mum and it's baby!! It was truly an amazing experience to go and see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat and so lucky to have some amazing guys to want share this with us. They themselves were so enthusiastic as this is also very special for them!

After this we walked back across the river and played swam in the beautiful blue water for hours with the locals! We had so much fun!

We stayed 3 days in total and everyday we were busy seeing something new, we did treks through the jungle, swam and climbed in waterfalls, drank coffee cooked over a fire while getting our hair washed with fruit, tubed down the river, hot water springs. All of these things were unforgettable
1. Because the scenery around here is magical, its something you could only dream of.
2. Because the guys from Mountain View, Nanta, Junius and Andrè were so friendly and fun, by the second day we felt like part of the family and we made some true friends for life!!

In the evenings we had dinner with the family, played cards, laughed and listens to Nantas beautiful music.

I even learnt how to cook some of their local dishes from Vera (Junius wife) who was lovely enough to let me loose in her kitchen!

The rooms are clean and very basic, we had a few ants but they really weren't a problem. (What can you expect, you're in the jungle?!)

The photos on TripAdvisor do not do it justice, the place is not as bare as the photos. Since last year they have started growing all kinds of fruits all around the cabins and there's flowers of all different colours and it's a just like a mini jungle, honestly it's beautiful!

I recommend to stay longer than 3 nights as otherwise your stay will be too short to truly experience this place!

There's so much more I could say about this wonderful place but I hope I've said enough for you to come and make your own memories here!!

Enjoy Mountain View Cottages, it really is a hidden gem!

Me and my friend went to tangkahan for a 2 days jungle trek.we really enjoyed the tour,we had a great time and a really good adventure during the 2 days.If you are lucky you can see the orang utans.but you have to know,it's wildlife and you are not in the zoo.tangkahan is much better than bukit lawang, there are not so many tourists and everything is wild.tangkahan is not such a big town than bukit lawang, there is nothing around.but if you have a choise,go to tangkahan.
our giude Nantan and his friends did a really good job during the tour.He is always very helpful, told us so many interesting things about the jungle and he was always very hard that we feel comfortable and even the food was very delicious.we had a lot of fun.i defenitly can recommend the tour, our giude and the moutain few cottage.thanks for the great time and i / we will defenitly come back.

What a lovely cottages and what an amazing view when eating breakfast. The host was very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the village and nature. We did the elephant washing in the morning and after that we went tubing down the river. After an hour we walked a little bit to a waterfall and we had the best lunch. How the lunch was presented was also so beautiful. The place for lunch, was breathtaking.
We really recommand this place!

My stay in Tangkahan was one of the best in whole Sumatra. The place is very cosy and everything is made with lots of love. The lodges are directly at the Batang River and the rainforest is starting on the opposite side. With some patience, you can see monkeys jumping or see some elephants in the jungle. The rooms are clean and the food is absolutely delicious. The team is taking care of their guests perfectly and try to fulfil all your wishes. If I am coming back to Sumatra, I will definitely go to Tangkahan again.
Thank you for making my stay a gorgeous one!

If you love nature, peace and quiet, authentic Indonesia, hospitality and delicious local food, then this is the place for you.👍😊
The Mountain View Cottage Lodges are located right next to the Gunung Leuser National Park, only separated by a small river in which you can swim very nicely.
For me it was already the second stay in Tangkahan in this lodge
and again it was indescribably beautiful....
Our tour guide Ramlan, who not only speaks perfect German, but is also an extremely friendly and lovable person, organized my 2-week tour of Sumatra again this time.
In Tangkahan you can bathe with elephants, head straight into the jungle, visit waterfalls and hot springs, go tubing and take part in tree planting campaigns to preserve the rainforest.
It was a special experience for me to watch wild elephants in the wild...
Absolutely recommended!!!
