The Good:The interior is beautiful, marble staircase, spacious salon, linen resterant, shaded park with swiming pool. The rooms are large, clean, comfortable. Huge bathroom, balcony, roomservice, A/C. The Bad: The hotel has a drab stucco exterior. It's a 45 minute walk or $4.00 euro cab ride to the Plaza Mayor. The Ugly: Included in that 45 minute walk is about 2 blocks of dirt road.

Arriving on a Friday and finding our first two hotel choices and most of the city hotels booked solid for the weekend, we headed across the river to the edge of town and found the Emperatriz III. A friendly, English speaking receptionist surprised us with availability of a room for two nights at 60 Euro/night including breakfast and free on-site parking, a bargain. Liberal use of marble, a spacious lobby, and a grand stair case to the second floor gave witness to past glory of this hotel, now primarily catering to bus tour groups from neighboring countries. Plaza Mayor is about a two mile taxi or bus ride away (#3 bus stop around the corner at the end of the block).

Our second floor room looked out over the rear hotel garden, pool, and playground, and was shielded from street noise. The room came with twin beds, traditional furniture, terrazzo tile floor, 18"TV, Fridge( not stocked), desk and only one chair. A plus was an in-room A/C system we controlled with a remote, and which stayed on during the night. On the minus side we noted the service directory was in Spanish only, and there were no glasses, except two plastic cups in the bathroom. The well lit, floor to ceiling marble tiled bath room had a tub/shower combo with a sliding glass door enclosure, a granite top counter with his and her sinks, WC and bidet. Grout seams gave away the age of the property, but an absolute disgrace were the towels frayed at the edges and hard as a board. Even though it appears the hotel has recently been refurbishing rooms and baths as is evident in double pane windows, new doors, fixtures, and furniture it nevertheless is not a 4-star hotel.

On the positive side of the hotel was its restaurant fitted out with chair covers and floor length table clothes, and linen napkins as if a wedding was to take place. We chose the price fixe menu at 16 Euro and found the food delicious, the portions gigantic. Breakfast was served in the same room buffet style and offered an adequate selection to get one started. To sum it up, the Emperatriz III is not the best choice for a Salamanca stay for its location and for what is offered.

This hotel has 4 *, but I think that it only should have 2.5 *. The hotel it´s not in Salamanca, it is very far away, it´s in a industrial area, and you must take a taxi to go to the center (more or less 6€ the ride).

The rooms are big, the bathrooms are clean, but all the room has not style at all. A/C and safe in the room, and a small garden in the hotel. There is a free parking in the front of the hotel.

You have better to go to a hotel more in the center in the city, because although it will cost you a little more, you will save a lot in taxis.

Very nice entrance and parking easy. Room was adequate but air conditioning did not work which we reported but was not repaired. Therefore would not recommend this hotel if you stay during the summer months if you need air conditioning. Very difficult to find tho.

This is a mid range hotel with friendly staff, clean rooms & an historical atmosphere. They have some lovely function rooms, a restaurant & bar. We had dinner bed & breakfast at a really good price. There was not a lot of food to choice from but it was good. The waitress didnt speak english, so the receptionist helped us. We were able to sit outside with our dogs. This hotel is a way out of town, popular with locals & dog friendly. They have a on site car park. We would love to say in one of there sister hotels so we could see the town but they dont except dogs but all in all a very nice hotel.

Stopped here en route from Bilbao to the Algarve. Easy to find from the motorway and within walking distance of restaurants and shops.
The room was large, comfortable and clean, the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included in the very reasonable price and was adequate. Overall the hotel was great value for money. Free parking was a big plus.

This hotel is a great option for those interested in clean/comfortable/spacious/quiet accommodations, free parking, and want to be just a few minutes away from the action of downtown Salamanca. The staff is friendly and the breakfast (5 euro per person) was functional, Although the rooms appeared to be newly renovated (fresh paint, small flat screen TV, etc.), the facilities were dated. We appreciated having a small fridge and getting a couple of free bottles of water; also, being right next to a small supermarket (%Dia) made getting snacks for our 4 year old a breeze . If you are able to come to terms on the fact that this is not a four star hotel, and are a budget-conscious traveler looking for good value in close proximity to the main attractions, I highly recommend giving the Emperatriz III a chance!

Beware, this hotel is far away from Salamanca city centre!

This hotel claims to be a four star hotel, and sure, the lobby gives that impression, it's huge and lush - BUT it's only on the surface, if you look closer you see that it's falling apart. I believe that the hotel once derved its four stars, but not any more.

When we arrived the hotel was pretty much empty and deserted. The pool was not functioning (under repair) which was a HUGE disappointment as it was 36*C and we have a child. The homepage did not state anything about this repair, only showing the nice pictures of a pool - and it had been closed for a long time, we could easily tell by looking at the building site. The patio, which could be really nice and cosy, didn't have any shadow and the kids' playground seriously needed some new paint.

We stayed on some sort of discount campain, so for us it was still worth the money, but of course we were disappointed by the false advertisement. I would never have paid a "four star price" for a stay there. The hotel needs to address their problems "underneath the surface" or they will either go bankrupt (no guests) or lose a star.

+
Very spatious room
AC with remote control
Big beds with three different pillows each
Minibar
Very big and lovely bathroom with two sinks
Beautiful (but some would call it tacky) dining room

-
Bed frames felt like they were almost falling apart
Only one electrical socket in the entire room
Wall lamps hanging lose
Bad quality on soaps, they crumbled and were nearly impossible to use
Only one trash can in the whole room (incl bathroom)
Trash can pedal broken
Showerhead was very old and plastic
Pool was not working - no info about this on the homepage
Location
Very late dinner, only serves from 20:30/8:30 PM, and yes I know that they eat late in Spain, but if you're a hotel perhaps you should be more flexible and consider foreign families as well.
Breakfast not very good, two sorts of bread, two sorts of juice from machine, one (!) type of cheese - ELEVEN (!!) pastries and SEVEN kinds of olive oil... The croissants were underbaked.

We stayed there in summer, and we had one double and two individual rooms with the same problems.
The rooms were literally an oven: temperature was more than 35 dregees Celsius, the air conditioner was turn off and everything (the window, the walls, the soil, the beds, etc.) was producing heat. We turn on the air conditioner at the maximum speed and lowest temperature but we need to wait about six hours to have a decent temperature that allowed us for sleep.
In the bathroom we didn’t have cold water. We asked about it to the guy in the reception and he told us that the water pipes are on the roof, so we had to let flow the water until its temperature decreases. Of course, that implies a huge waste of water, although they put a small paper asking the costumers to not waste it.
Once the room was cooler and we could have a not-boiling shower we enjoyed our stay in the hotel.
We had car, so we appreciated the parking and we had no problem to reach the city centre, but the hotel is quite far away from the touristic zone and I have no idea about public transport. From the motorway it's very easy to reach.
At last, we don’t recommend the breakfast: it’s quite seedy. You can find a better breakfast in a bar, with at least natural orange juice and fresher ingredients.
Prices are good for the double room (40€), relatively a bit high for the single one (37€).

Lovely hotel once inside although decor could do with updating. Free parking. Lovely spa area. Restaurant in the evening was extremely good value for money 18 euros for 3 courses wine water and bread. Good home cooked food not gourmet but for the money excellent. Hotel is very clean beds are comfy rooms are large but it's all sort of out of date.
