The property is very beautiful, you are literally staying in the castle - so we found it much better then the airport hotel nearby. We were staying in room 14 which is as the staff mentioned "the favourite room of the owner". It's nicely decorated and overlooks the beautiful front field. The staff was very professional and friendly, in fact,... More

We booked this place as our last night in France as was near the airport .. On arrival the place looks amazing and the welcome was good , reception area and the walk to the room very impressive.. We did only pay i think about £80 for the night but wasn't worth it at all as looked like our room... More

The hotel is an old monastery in a beautiful garden setting. We had a "superior" room in the first floor, which was tastefully set up to match the old building, with antique furniture and "oldschool" fittings. The rooms may not have as many modern "features" as in other places, but were in great condition otherwise. The service was impeccable, both... More

I stayed here in cold and wet february. At reception they told me it would be 20€ each extra per dog ( 2 old clean quiet sleepy pups) I was quite shocked. The carpet in my room had numerous large stains, the curtains were full of dust and the corners of the bathroom ceiling were black. I was made to... More

This beautiful Abbey is unfortunately a little down at heel. The gardens whilst extensive are shabby or at least were at the time of our visit in Autumn. The room was characterful and comfortable with nice view across the garden. We ate in the restaurant which was unrelenting high cuisine (even the menu pour enfants had pate de foie gras... More

If this place closed down for a three or four month proper refurbishment it'd be a beautiful luxury retreat. The reality is that it's like visiting an elderly relative who really should redecorate. We stayed for one night at Abbaye de Villeneuve to break up the journey back to the ferry port. I must confess to not having read the... More

Having read the other reviews, I wonder whether we are reviewing the same hotel. We booked on the basis of the hotel's website and it's promise - and should have paid more attention to the less positive Tripadvisor reviews. I don't mind cost - it's the value that's important and Abbaye de Villeneuve rates very low on that criterion. It's clear that the budget for this hotel is limited - in terms of maintenance... More

Beautiful location and lovely surroundings though we might have preferred the hotel to invest a little more in comfort and mod cons. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Abbey was founded by Constance de Bretagne. Very important at the 15th century, the greater part was demolished Under the Revolution. Neglected since last war it was fully restored in 1977. The actual house dating from 18th century is the old Cistercian guest quarters. Now it offers all the modern tastefully luxuries with an air of nobleness and spell belonging to its past age. A side of the cloister still holds good and is open to the restaurant. Cuisine of exceptional standard on level with surroundings. Bedrooms and apartments with the genuine decoration of the wonderful framing half-timbering. The sitting-rooms have the splendor of the Great Century with their ceilings in the French style and fireplaces in stone. You will feel far from the monastic austerity of the Cistercians but quite near "a little place of the paradise" at the end of the road... ... more   less
