Detailed Reviews
The hotel is situated in the centre of Seljord. It's a classic old hotel with an extensions in the back. Pictures are usually only showing the charming old part. Unfortunately the new is less charmingly. Looks a bit like a communist hotel room in the 80's (I know what I'm talking about) with outdated bathrooms. We had the chance to check rokms 214, 210, 213. Some noise from any aggregate during the evening was rather annoying. There is no difference in the room pricing which is why wr felt been overcharged.
The restaurant was OK, even tough some of the dishes from the menu were not available and the icecream seemed partly thawed and refrozen again. Slightly unpleasant.
Luckily the staff was friendly and trying their best to make it a pleasant stay anyway.
We think there are some routines missing in the hotel when it comes to cleaning and handling the day to day things. Having a more based on facts approach to the room prices would be highly appreciated by all guests as THEY could manage their expectations and decide if it's just an overnight stay or worth the money to spend a night or more.
We see potential in that hotel if management decides for some basic adjustments.

The hotel is very old and has loads of history. It seems that conserving the history is more important than giving guests a good experience, and that is sad.
The up-keep of the rooms is so-so. For a full price hotel there is expectations to what the guests expect. It is possible to conserv the history and accomodate guests. Bed was worn out and the matress was very thin. The chairs were probably from the 1800's and due for a restore job. The bathroom was "modernized" but could have been so much better by spending a bit more.
The room was very hot. Window open and weather turning over the night made it OK though, but I can imagine it being hot and humid in a good summer night.
We passed on the dinner and found a different place to eat. Nothing on the menu was tempting for any of us.
The breakfast had very poor selection for gluten free diet. Come on, there is so much to choose from these days. Even frozen bakery you heat up on request. For regular diet the breakfast had the basics.
Of the good stuff the hotel is very preserved and there is tons of history. If this is your fancy, this is the hotel for you. If you prefer plaster walls and clean design you might steer clear.

The hotel had just reopened after Corona lockdown. No regular breakfast, but they still solved it nicely. The dinner was just superb. Lovely hotel with lots of history (rumor has it that's even haunted). Very friendly staff. Rare to come across such a nice hotel at a small location in Norway. Only minus was the lack of air-conditioning. It was very warm weather when we stayed there.

This is a quaint looking hotel in a small town but was very disappointing. The public areas were very nice, with a small restaurant & a nice library/study area in which to sit. The staff were friendly but disorganized & appeared rather frazzled.
Our room was in the roof space of the building & was small. There was no closet/wardrobe in the room (maybe it was too small for one?) but neither were there any hooks or hangers on which to hang clothes & jackets etc, so we had to drape everything (we were on motorcycles So lots of outerwear) on the two chairs! The bathroom was basic & the shower so small we continually bumped elbows against the glass. The noise from the quiet roads as cars hit the raised school crossing was annoying during the night.
The dinner was unexciting & unoriginal with a choice of three "a la carte" items (some were no longer available) or what looked like frozen pizzas.
What was really weird though was this... we were a group of twelve & the bar was very understocked with the basic options...only 1 bottle of alcohol free beer, 1 bottle of chardonnay & not much beer! One would think when you have a large group booked in you'd make sure the bar was well-stocked with the basic options!
Breakfast was also disappointing. The coffee was undrinkable & that is saying something, given the amount of coffee we drank at gas stations, the selection of food was small & not kept replenished & for the gluten-free option once again the only choice was crackers. There is GF bread available people!
Finally the staff seemed overwhelmed & under prepared. A very disappointing experience.

The following day we continued driving on to Seljord and the Seljord Hotel. Seljord has some great water activities, a water park, and waterfalls. It is a great base for numerous day trips. This sleepy village has a few restaurants including a wonderful bakery across the street from the hotel. The hotel is actually a historic house and the rooms feel like bedrooms more than hotel rooms.

My Mum and I stayed in the Seljord Hotel for one night on our way from Oslo to Odda. We didn't know what to expect from Seljord but it was great. We had a lovely view from our room. I tried Moose for the first time for dinner which waa delicious. The buffet breakfast was awesome with a huge selection! The staff were all friendly and helpful. And Seljord itself was lovely too! Would recommend!

Stayed for 3 nights. Room size ok. Good central location in Seljord. Staff were very helpful. Room very clean. Breakfast great and delicious. Lovely sitting in bed looking out at trees and mountains.
On the negative side and putting this in with hope that the maintenance man will be sent up to do R&M - Stayed in balcony room but I could feel 'Mr Hotel Impossible' throwing his hands up in horror when he ran his hands over the filthy balcony rails, floor, cigarette butts etc and the rusty grubby outdoor furniture up there. Had to ask for room to be serviced (clean towels.) bathroom small but adequate but toilet has a mysterious gremlin that causes it to flush every half hour.

The room is small, but I had the best night's sleep in their beds. The bathroom is small, but it works. There was a fan in the room, which was very welcome. The week we were in Norway, it was in the 70's and a fan was needed. We ate supper at the hotel and the food was very good. The breakfast the following morning, was also very good, with a nice selection of food. We love the Norwegian breakfast buffets and this one didn't disappoint. If you can't get in this hotel, drive a bit further and stay at the Tuddal Hoyfellshotel, in Tuddal, Telemark, Norway. They are both Norway gems and not the chain hotel type of experience. Our only downside, was that a drunk man came in at supper and talked rudely to the waitress and instead of them telling him to leave, they just ignored him, so he sat at a table staring at us and smelling bad. He finally left, but not soon enough.

I needed a hotel for one night due to work in the area and called this hotel. This is an old wooden building in the center of Seljord.
I was met by a friendly staff late in the evening. My room was excellent.
The breakfast was far superior to what I had expected for this "small" hotel.
I would gladly stay here again and can warmly suggest this place to other travellers.

+1
The kitchens air-conditioning fan was beneath our window and was making a loud noice. They were uwilling to change our room. No worries though, they close the kitchen at 9pm... Then we were waken by the same fan at 6am next morning!!
The bathroom was smelly (old pholks home) old and dirty with a old shower cabinet.
The rooms needs a serious upgrade and was overpriced by the double. You would have believed by reading old reviews that they would have made some changes but sadly not the case.
