Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Positives - staff were really helpful, dog friendly, nice breakfast (mushrooms were perfect), clean rooms, complimentary items in room. Negatives - the carpets and furnishings are very tired (hole in carpet, stains on sofa covers (clean but stains remain) and decor is a mishmash. Bedroom walls were thin and a snorer kept us from sleeping. Otherwise it would have been a peaceful night. Not the place for a long stay but sufficient for a night or two. The bar staff and cleaners are doing a super job but you can't polish a turd.

Well what can i say about the “smugglers inn?” Well I'll tell you what I can say - it was absolutely disgusting and the service was shocking and it is probably very accurate in that things are being smuggled or passed around in there! Yes it is true that we had just been to a comic - con in cornwall and had suits on but for who I can only presume was the landlady to say “i thought you were taking the piss” as we walked in wearing clothes that were not that unusual in that it consisted of trousers, a top, boots and a cape (no facial decoration or loud headdress) is offensive and not the sort of salutation i would expect. Now to be fair I don't speak Cornish but I'm pretty sure that foul language is the same all over england and certainly not the way that you would greet guests no matter what their appearance. I would suggest my dear that you find what is called a mirror, have a little look in it and see whether you think your appearance takes the aforementioned form of urine and perhaps at the same time practice your greetings to future guests should you actually receive any. You could use the female who served breakfast (or not as the case was because we left before she even took our order because it was taking so long) and you could take it in turns to greet a customer or take an order. We had an amazing breakfast a little way down the road by the way. Your time zone must be very different from the rest of Cornwall because every person sat in that dining room was waiting, and waiting, waiting some more and then finally when there was a glimmer of home, they waited some more. Coffees were coming out to tables one by one so may I introduce to you a very useful contraption called a tray; which is actually very clever in that it actually allows you to carry several items of food and drink at the same time! I would also like to inform you of a piece of equipment called a clock - a fantastically useful device which allows the user to do things in a timely manner. It's revolutionary and will improve your lives and “running of a business” dramatically. The best part was at breakfast when the fire alarm activated. Now credit where it's due, i was actually surprised that they worked given that not much else did in there and it was reasonable to assume that given the time of day (not that any of the staff knew) that a burnt piece of toast or an over crisped sausage may have been the perpetrator in such an activation. but as no member of staff appeared we were all about to evacuate when low and behold, the chef appeared. but wait, he was dressed as a chef but was unsteady on his feet and slurring the words. That's right it was the absolutely blotted barman from the night before nursing a very considerable hangover with an apron, checkered trousers and a spatula! Who said men could not multi-task?! Thank goodness that there wasn't a fire because the first thing to have combusted would have been him with all that alcohol secreted within his bodily functions. He then sias in a very slurred voice “it's ok, i don't think there's a fire!” Well thank goodness for that, I was so reassured that I took my seat again to take a sip of my still non existent coffee. It was at this point we were gone. Once we’d left, Andy gave us a call to see if everything was ok - I mean of course it was Andrew, everyone leaves accommodation without saying goodbye or checking out properly having been disgusted at the lack of decor, dangerous furniture and stained sheets! He told us that people are raving about the place. What he must have meant was the rave they were having the night before because almost everyone was kept up until the early hours by noise from the bar which did not stop when asked by many. We told him to go into the dining room from where we had just vacated before we were food poisoned (a separate review to come from another unsatisfied customer) , and ask the customers (if there were any left as all were about to leave as we did) what they thought of the place. There's honestly more atmosphere in a librarians toilet! Now if you were looking for a souvenir of your stay, look no further than the car park and rear of the smugglers where you will find an array of smashed televisions, fridges and other white goods together with mattresses and more wood than a paper factory. Amaze your friends and family with some smugglers inn nostalgia! To summarize, do not stay there. It's run down, they are in a different timezone, they are rude and couldn't care less about guests. Do not do it to yourselves. Most smugglers were made to walk the plank - perhaps you should walk around and sort the place out!

We stayed here for a night on our trip to Cornwall and found everything to be satisfactory. We arrived on a busy Sunday afternoon when there had been some live music and the place was busy. Our room had everything you would need and was very clean. The breakfast was great the next morning to see us on our way.

Well, we was traveling to Cornwall with my wife, and stayed here for 3 nights. On the arrival, we find this hotel completely closed) and was waiting more then 1 hour in a car for staff to open it) Paid about 70 per night, and i was overpriced, room it tiny, not comfortable at all, no wardrobe, noisy, and damp smell of old house( Maybe if you stay for 1 night its ok, not longer. Overall good friendly staff, basic breakfast, tasty fish and chips.

Great food, definitely recommend! We went for the football and decided to try some starters! The prawn an chorizo and the Arancini balls were so good, we saw the chicken burgers arrive at a neighbouring table and decided to get that too! Local pub friendly staff! Impressed!

The rooms are nothing like the pictures, cold, damp and out of date. En-suite was awful, mouldy and out of date. We were greeted over the bar, not at all a homely, friendly welcome. We asked for a refund, which to be fair, the owner agreed to without hesitation. However, we have since learnt that because we booked via Booking.com, the only way we will receive our refund is, if the owner consents to it and confirms this to Booking.com.....Booking.com have not received such consent and we are £180 out of pocket. Just saddens me to think an owner/business person can do this to innocent people. It just simply wasn't up to standard, no need to rob us of our hard earned money.
