What a fabulous place to have a respite retreat. Lovely room (5) and dining experiences with drinkies on the terrace. Very informative walks leaflet to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside however it really was the warm welcome and service from the staff which made our stay special.looking forward to returning in winter…

We’ve just checked out of the most wonderful two night stay feeling so spoiled by the whole experience. We had the most beautiful views of the River Hodder and surrounding countryside from our room (Room 5) and from the terrace where we sat and enjoyed pre-dinner drinks on an evening - some of the best views I’ve seen of any hotel in England. The food was delicious, the wine list varied (and reasonably priced) and the service was friendly, genuine and attentive. It was my partner’s 30th birthday trip and he was given a little hamper of coffee, marmalade and a card at checkout which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. We enjoyed some great walks straight out of the hotel using a lovely little Inn at Whitewell walking guide provided by Reception. We can’t recommend this place enough - the trip was perfection from start to finish and we were only sorry that we had to leave!

Great customer service and menu. This place offers short to medium walks through the countryside and farms. A very scenic route across the stones which bridge the river. Can’t complain about this place. The wine store is also full of top wines.

We always love our visits to this beautiful Inn. The menu is first class and everything about this charming establishment just fills me with joy. Is there a better setting in the UK to just sit and watch the day go by whilst having some awesome food and wonderful wine?

The Inn at Whitewell may well be perfectly satisfactory as a pub or hotel. As a restaurant, though, it failed to satisfy us. In fact, in an area where there are a remarkable number of very good pub/restaurants it was notable for just how ordinary the food was. It does, of course, have an excellent location and there can be few finer views; looking out towards the hills across the river as swallows put on acrobatic displays was magnificent and worth the struggles with the parking that others have referred to. But the cooking reminded us of UK pubs in the '70s/'80s and just wasn't very good, with even something as simple as fish and chips failing (fish too wet, hence batter not crispy). A lamb dish that seemed to promise something of North Africa/the Middle East turned out to be neither, with couscous overcooked ad spices lacking. Add to this how unseasonal the menu seemed (hints of winter about some dishes, rather than spring) and we were left very disappointed. Dishes are not cheap; in fact, I would call them expensive for the quality. There's a very good wine list, with plenty of excellent choices at all price ranges. The welcome from staff was mixed: efficient enough, but not very interested, or so it seemed - there were no enquiries about why so much of our meals weren't eaten. Covid precautions were good.
