Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was all we could ask for. We were a family of 4 and had the family suite. Nice spacious room, modern furniture and decor, sitting area, flat screen TV, very comfortable double bed, pull out sofa and rollaway bed. They made the rooms every day and provided new towels. The rooms are equipped with hairdryers, soap/body wash/shampoo, shelving to store your clothes, space for luggage, coat hanging area and shoe rack . The breakfast was excellent, everything from Icelandic yoghurt to fruit, cereal, fruit jam, Nutella, hard boiled eggs, croissants and toast, orange juice, coffee/tea and milk. It was just what we needed to fuel up for the day. The front desk staff is exceptionally helpful and accommodating and even prepared itineraries for us every day. There are also numerous flyers and maps in the entrance area to help with your travel planning. There is a comfortable stylish lounge area if you want to hang out with friends/family and have a drink (not sure whether the hotel sells alcohol but my recommendation is to buy your liquor at the duty free in the airport on arrival, it's much cheaper than purchasing it anywhere on the island). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in a budget friendly conveniently located place. They also provide free parking, which is often not the case in Reykjavik, as many hotels there only provide street parking or charge for parking. I would specially like to mention Jamie at the front desk, he went above and beyond to provide anything we needed and gave us great travel tips, advice and travel itineraries. We will definitely be back soon!

My wife and I have been staying at the first hotel for the past 6 days and have had a great stay. The hotel is very clean, the reception staff are fantastic, very friendly and helpful with taxis, excursions etc. There is free tea always available, breakfast is a selection of cold meat, cheese, eggs, toast, croissants and cereals. There is a coffe machine and small area selling essentials should you forget anything. There is a big shopping mall, ten mins walk away as well as a great pizza place, Chinese and Indian. There was no noise issues while we were staying we had great showers and sleep. We highly recommend this hotel for a great prices stay while in Iceland.

Hotel was exceptionally clean , staff were unbelievably helpful(Cassandra) called tour companies on our behalf helping to rearrange trips that were cancelled due to bad weather. Would def recommend this hotel if visiting Reykjavik. Only a short bus ride to city centre should you need. Shopping mall 5-10 minute walk away.

Had a fantastic holiday in Iceland 10-15th January 2020 and this hotel was the perfect base for our travels. We stayed at the hotel for four nights and the staff were amazing especially Jamie and Victor They made calls to organise trips that had to be changed because of bad weather and were incredibly helpful. The Hotel was clean and the bedrooms spotless, the rooms were cleaned daily and towels were changes and beds made. We did take our own Kettle as they were not provided in the rooms as we liked to fill our flasks each morning as Iceland can be expensive for hot drinks. I highly recommend the Hotel. We did have a good few drinks in the bar, alcohol is expensive in Iceland so bear this in mind if your on a budget.

Very inconsistent, the great thing is the staff are very helpful. Rooms are a very good size but ours was unfortunately dirty. The housekeepers didn’t even bother coming on the 1st day but did on the 2nd and 3rd so hard to say what happened. Tv remote didn’t work etc. Worst thing is the breakfast is absolutely dreadful. I understand everything in Iceland is pricey and this hotel wasn’t expensive but a proper coffee machine and some hot eggs in the morning isn’t too much to ask.

Although it’s a cheaper option, do yourself a favour and pay a little more.

Firstly, ground floor room was awful, very noisy due to the location being in the middle of an industrial estate. One single pillow which was pretty much not existent. The wet room/bathroom floods whenever the shower is turned on, making going back into the bathroom after a shower, somewhat impossible.

The hotel breakfast is perhaps the worst I’ve ever had the misfortune of eating. Coffee sat in a thermal flask for hours, no warm options, just bread, ham and cheese with two separate cereals, hardly a fantastic breakfast, I’d rather eat hospital food.

The staff on reception are like chalk and cheese. In the evening, staff are very friendly and happy to helpX even offered us late check out - (therefore booked an activity on the morning of checking out with the option of heading back to the hotel for a shower). Upon arriving back from said activity, I was met with the rudest woman I’ve ever encountered, stated no late checkout despite the room not being booked for the night after. Also stated that any late checkout meant we’d have to pay extra, even 5 minutes for a shower. She was so disinterested and so unhelpful that it topped off the whole terrible experience.

Please avoid this place like the plague, limited amenities, unfriendly staff (in the day) and prison like food classed as breakfast. Pay a little more and stay in a much nicer place. I’d give this less than 1 star if I could.

I am not easy to please. We landed Monday morning without our luggage. We drove in a blizzard from KEF airport to the 201 Hotel. Evelyn was very helpful, checked us in right away. She put is in the first floor, medium size room. My wife and I, dead tired from our trip, went straight to sleep. Two minutes later, I am awakened by the sound of housekeeping cleaning the room next door. Not happy I go to Evelyn and complain. She promptly changes our room to one on the top floor close to a corner, so as to not be disturbed so much. We move, sleep and wake up much better. I go downstairs to apologize and thank Evelyn. She understands completely. And that sums up my stay at the 201. Everyone was understanding. Jaime and Cassandra were great, food was good. I LOVE LOVE how no plastic is used. Dishes are cleaned daily. Great location, and friendly staff. 100/100. We found our Hotel when we go to Iceland!

Just got back from 3 nights in this hotel.
I was really happy with the hotel, very clean, staff where amazing, so friendly, nothing was to much trouble.
Rooms where good, TV in the room, Beds where ok, just a little small.
But clean and tidy. Towels where changed every day. Cleaner was very friendly too.
The hotel is slightly out the way but there is a hus at the end of the road which cost 8pound return via an app. Was nice to see the areas around Reykjavik on the bus.

Breakfast was basic but absolutely fine. Also got free tea and coffee all day.

I booked excursions with Reykjavik excursions and they picked us up and dropped us back off to the hotel. We even got stuck at the blue lagoon due to the storm. The tour bus got us back the bus station and called us a taxi to get us home quicker because it was 2.30am.

Overall I would stay here again. Mainly down to how welcoming and friendly the staff where.

Really enjoyed our few days here. Staff were incredibly helpful and nothing was too much (including helping us order take out when we got back after a long tour - thanks Cassandra).

Absolutely spotless. I like the simple, minimalist rooms. TV had the standard freeview channels which was a nice surprise.

It is not in the centre of town but we actually liked that about it. All the tours pick you up and take you to the main bus stop so no hassle at all.

Breakfast was standard small continental. Not lots of choice but very filling and a good start to the day.

easy to get into town by bus or cab. Shopping mall within walking distance with lots of restaurants

Would stay again

Stayed here with my SO in Feb 2022. On the plus side, the rooms are big, bathroom large and the breakfast is fine, coffee and tea are free throughout the day and there is plenty of parking.

On the downside, the rooms, though modern, are falling apart, with little attention to broken handrails, missing bulbs and toilet flush buttons. The beds are twin beds with those irritating single duvets: how do Icelanders survive the cold nights without hugging? Attempts to do so will leave at least one of you falling into the crack between the beds and probably with no duvet over you either.

Whilst appreciating some of the staff work really hard (the blonde woman at breakfast was astounding at keeping the tables available and clean), there are a few others who seem detached and disengaged (the main receptionist seemed impervious to havoc around her through simply staring at her computer screen regardless of the pressure on colleagues to sort out guests/breakfasts and housekeeping didn't bother to do our room on one of the days). Location is a mixed bag: you will have to drive into Reykjavik to eat (7kms), but will drive away and avoid it when doing the Golden Ring etc., and there is a large shopping mall very close by that includes a supermarket. It is also fairly cheap by Icelandic standards. This was an average sort of stay for us.

Dear groggery1, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your stay at 201 Hotel. We appreciate your insights, and we're pleased to see that there were several aspects of your experience that you found positive. We're glad to hear that you appreciated the spaciousness of the rooms, the large bathrooms, and the breakfast offerings. Our goal is to ensure a comfortable and satisfying stay for all our guests, and we're glad these aspects contributed positively to your visit. Regarding the bed setup, we'd like to clarify that we do offer multiple room types with different bed configurations, including options that suit those who prefer hugging ;) We truly appreciate your recognition of our hardworking staff, especially the breakfast team. However, we're concerned to hear about the inconsistency you experienced with housekeeping and certain reception interactions. We'll address these points internally to ensure our team maintains a high level of engagement and attentiveness. Our location is indeed strategic, offering the convenience of proximity to shopping and easy access to both Reykjavik and popular attractions. We hope that you will be staying with us again in the future, as we continuously strive to improve our offerings and provide a better experience for all our guests. If you have specific preferences or requirements, please feel free to reach out to me before your next visit, and I will do my best to accommodate them. Thank you once again for your feedback. We value your input and hope to welcome you again. Warm regards, Júlía Björgvinsdóttir General Manager 201 Hotel

The hotel is approximately a 10 minute drive from downtown and 30 minutes to the airport. One day for sightseeing in Reykjavik is enough. Lots of bars and restaurants to choose from in downtown nothing much nearby the hotel, Chinese restaurant is across the street. A Golden Circle day trip is very good. If you have your own car add Kerid Crater it's a good addition. A day trip up the coast to Vik is also very good. You will see a number of waterfalls, black sand beach, interesting rock formations and we saw a number of puffins at Dyrholaey 2 weeks ago.
