#1 of 5 Speciality lodging in Grotte di Castro
Located at the borders of Lazio, Umbria & Tuscany, one and a half hours from Rome, half way between Orvieto and Siena, the breathtakingly splendid 17th century castle, Castello di Santa Cristina, (complete with fairytale turret) has been the property of the noble Caterini family for generations. Over the past ten years, the castle' s nearby 18th Century ivy-covered farmhouse and out-buildings have been carefully restored to retain their authenticity and separated into 8 self-catering cottages and 14 bedrooms with Bed & Breakfast for guests, furnished with original pieces, can offer you unique country holidays. A perfect location if you are looking at farmhouse holidays where you can explore the various neighboring historic towns including Orvieto, Sorano, Acquapendente and Grotte Di Castro. We offer sensational Tuscan cuisine, fantastic cooking courses and unique weddings in the castle grounds. The Castello di Santa Cristina is also an ideal place for a horse riding holiday. On our exciting trail excursions, we travel as far as Proceno, Lake Bolsena and to the beautiful nature reserve Selva Del Lamone. Riding lessons are something you should not miss when on a holiday with children. Always on the spot you find our swimming pool, the tennis court, a mini football pitch & the possibility to rent bikes.

My friend and I had an amazing week at this beautiful place! Such a welcoming and friendly team, scenery like nowhere else (including a stunning historical castle), the most delicious Italian food (thank you Morena!:) and horse riding on the best horses you could wish for (bomb proof, easy to handle, surefooted on the sometimes challenging terrain, friendly and always willing to go (thrilling canters!) Our guides (Gin and Edyta ) were superb, thank you for showing us the area and for always being cheerful and willing to help! Also a special thank you to Cristina and Antonio for welcoming us in their lovely home like family (and showing us the castle and beautiful places in the surrounding area like Pitigliano). We have found a new home away from home :) Highly recommend this place to anyone that likes horse riding, nature and/or cycling but also to anybody that is looking for a unique place to stay with a family-like atmosphere whilst exploring this beautiful region of Italy. Be prepared to eat a lot of delicious food too ;)

We were a group of four friends who had a wonderful 8 days staying at Santa Cristina with the most amazing horse back rides, hikes, food and relaxing by the pool. All the food is farm fresh and the breakfasts and dinners were more than enough food! Dinners in the dining room are served family style and our wonderful riding guides Sarah and Bohzi were wonderful hosts each evening. The owners, Antonello and Christina were also very welcoming and visited with all of the guests to ensure that they were enjoying therirstay. Thank you to Antonello for taking a small group of us on a morning hack. It was a pleasure to ride with him and learn about his family's castle and farm. The lovely hacks on very good horses were a treat and the teaching I had from Bozhi helped to improve my riding. I can’t recommend this enough especially if you love horses! I hope to return someday.

From the moment we arrived we felt at ease, our hosts Christina and Antonello and all the wonderful staff were so friendly and welcoming. The accomodation was spotless and comfortable, the food, authentic home cooked Italian, was delicious and plentiful. Christina was amazing at introducing all the guests,if you came here alone , you'd soon be chatting, drinking and laughing at the family dinner table, enjoying the company of an eclectic mix of people. The grounds were beautiful, and pool area never busy. As a family of horse lovers, the riding was an important part of the experience for us and we were not disappointed. The horses are well looked after andhad lovley temperaments, the riding suitable for all levels of ability. We enjoyed rides through the gorgeous countryside and depending on how comfortable we felt, dictated how fast the ride went.Bojhi the instructor was brilliant with us all, my husband grew in confidence, enough to do some long canters with us and our daughter had some great jumping lessons with her. Both Bojhi and Sarah the guides were very competant and knowledgeable and had a lovely friendly manner. Sarah even offered us Yoga sessions as a bonus. This is a truely magical place, we had the best holiday and cant wait to return.

We had a wonderful 10 days staying at St Cristina with the most amazing company, cycling, horses and food. All the food is fresh and all the vegetables grown locally. My husband and son did some 40-60 mile bike rides and the use of an electronic bike for the 15 year old made it possible for him to go as far and as fast as his dad! For my 12 year old daughter and I the riding was perfect. The lovely hacks on very good horses was a privilege and the teaching I had from Bozhi really improved my riding. My daughter hugely improved her ability and we’re looking forward to going again next year. The Count and Countess and the entire team made this a really restful and fun week. I can’t recommend this enough especially if you love horses or cycling!
