Visited on December 18th to 21st arrived to a very warm welcome from Will & Sarah when we got into the lodge it was amazing. There was a hamper of food in the kitchen the fridge had bacon sausages eggs milk & orange juice in it a loaf of bread on the side, everything you needed for breakfast for our stay. Unlike some lodges I have stayed in it was lovely and warm & you controlled the heating yourself. They have thought of everything when you are in the hot tub nobody over looks you & the lodges are well situated away from each other over looking the lake. This is the first time we have been here but definitely not the last.

Hi there, we're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. It's great fun just relaxing in the hot tub isn't it. We have only five lodges in 5 acres of grounds and that gives a lovely sense of space and seclusion. Hope to see you soon! Sarah and Will

Along with everyone else our normal plans for holidays have very much changed this year, hubby has wanted a fishing holiday for years so we started doing some research & we were lucky enough to find a vacancy here.
As this was our first visit, we had had conversations & E mails with both Will & Sarah prior to our arrival & found them very helpful & accommodating. They were both at the gate to welcome us & were very Covid safe, friendly & professional, we later found out they have only been owners since June.
We were in Woodpecker Lodge, which was clean & comfortable. A party of 4, our men were there for the fishing & the ladies to enjoy a welcome rest, the hot tub, lots of chatter, the scenery and a few gins. We self catered for the duration of our stay & found the facilities more than adequate, even a dishwasher. Any problems we had were quickly dealt with & our welcome pack plus many extras a real treat. Unfortunately we were unable to make use of the pamper packages normally offered (due to the current situation) & liked the look of the fire pit area & sauna.
The weather wasn’t the best, it was very wet & the fishing not great, lots of small perch but nothing of any size, even though we saw larger fish jumping out of the water. Despite this we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
I am sure Will & Sarah have plans for their future & that of Badwell Ash, already a successful business. Just a couple of things we would have found useful. The internet was poor & phone signal random which some would welcome, however with more of us using our mobile phones for home security apps etc & contact in emergencies, we would have preferred the choice of using such an option. Had the phone signal been better (4g)this may not have been an issue. We also felt that the swims for fishing would benefit from digging out & filing with some form of gravel/ pebbles,/type 1 so the rain could drain away. During our stay they were very muddy & slippery.
I am sure the cleaners would appreciate this too, it was difficult to keep the entrances to the lodge mud free.
All in all our experience was lovely and peaceful & one we would like to do again, hopefully when all the facilities are available.
Thanks to you both for making our stay so welcoming & we wish you great success in your new venture.

We were pleased to meet you and so delighted to hear you thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for taking the time to review us and for your kind wishes. As you know we took over in July and we are continually looking for ways to make improvements here, so we appreciate your constructive and thoughtful comments. Our WiFi is fine for most guests' needs however we are a rural location in the heart of Suffolk so we'd be the first to admit it isn't the fastest; nevertheless we are researching ways in which we can boost the signal. The same is true of the mobile coverage in this area which is good on some networks and patchier on others, and can be a little weather dependent. Regarding the fishing swims, yes, we are seeing during our first Autumn here that the site gets muddy in places, and your comments are very much in keeping with our plans to install more wooden fishing platforms and tidy up the other areas. Just on the fishing itself, it is getting colder now so the carp are slowing down; we do plan to net the lakes in the Winter to see exactly what fish they contain, and we will review our stocking plans accordingly. Please check the 'News' section of the website for updates! We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and very much hope we will see you again soon. Warm wishes Sarah and Will

Just come home from a wonderful holiday to Badwell Ash.
Will and Sarah are warm welcoming and thoughtful.
Accommodation is fantastic. Everything you need is provided, its a home away from home.
Hot tub was spotlessly clean and well maintained.
Didn't use bbq, but would do should we visit when hotter.
The welcome basket was filled with goodies and essentials. You even get a few washing machine tabs, along with dishwasher tabs.
Bedrooms are immaculate, our 4 poster bed was incredibly comfortable and my dad's bed was just as good.
Bathroom was a nice size once again spotless, only thing I would suggest would be that a little rubber mat for inside the shower, it was slippy when wet so just worried about my dad slipping over.
We all caught fish, would have liked more but they were still spauning and it was a little chilly.
I couldn't recommend this place enough, can't wait to go back.

Having just returned from our 5th stay at this lovely, tranquil, countryside hide away, we felt compelled to finally leave a review.
It was our first stay in Woodpecker lodge and we were as highly impressed with this one, as we had been with Heron Lodge, on our previous stays.
The lodges are meticulously cleaned before your arrival, (just watch the cleaners in action, on a change over day) and the attention to detail with everything provided within the lodges, truly makes for an enjoyable stay. A nice extra this year, was the addition of Netflix and Amazon on the TV. Not that the TV got much use, as evenings were always spent watching the sunset, from the large hot tub.
I fished for carp everyday and it has to be said that its not an easy venue but the fish are hard fighting and in immaculate condition. The bigger fish certainly eluded me, in the heatwave conditions that we experienced during our stay but I did manage 7 common carp in the 9 to 10lb bracket.
Will and Sarah are lovely hosts and certainly go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and are very approachable and friendly.
Will we be back? You bet, we booked for next year before we left!

We came across these holiday lodges when we visited the area for the first time last September and thought we must try and stay there. It looked so idyllic. We booked a weeks stay at the end of last month and enjoyed a wonderful time there. The owners Will & Sarah are very welcoming and have put a lot of effort into making your stay as comfortable as possible. They even arrange a welcome hamper for when you arrive. . It is a very tranquil and quiet location and each lodge overlooks a lake. We particularly enjoyed the hot tub - each lodge has its own large hot tub. The lodges are nice and spacious with every convenience provided. 10/10 to Will & Sarah for managing the business so well. We definitely intend to return one day.

My fantastic wife sorted the trip as a treat (very, very much appreciated) and what an amazing trip it was. Accommodation was exactly as advertised, as was the fishing. Accommodation was excellent (we stayed in the Shepherd's Hut (Damsel)), it was clean and modern and came with a hot tub and steam room for some post fishing chill out time. The welcome hamper was amazing and very much appreciated and enjoyed.
The fishing (the important part for me) was amazing. Changing bait throughout the week resulted a fantastic trip. Some very nice common carp, tench, bream, rudd and perch.
Our hosts, Will and Sarah, were both friendly and helpful. We will definitely be staying here again and we had an amazing time.

This place is absolutely stunning! The grounds are very well kept along with the beautiful lodges. We were welcomed at the gate by Sarah who kindly let us leave a vehicle there whilst we went out for lunch as we were too early to check in. From start to finish the hosts couldn’t be more helpful with advice on fishing to local walks and local pubs. Beautiful welcome hamper which includes champagne fresh orange juice and local butcher sausages and bacon! Perfect little personal touch. Fishing was tough but that’s the way it goes! Would highly recommend a visit to this lovely place! Will and Sarah will make your stay as best as possible. We will definitely be returning .

We chose to stay at Badwell Ash Lodges as the site appeared to have everything we were looking for - nice lodge, hot tub, fishing. We weren’t disappointed. The lodge was very comfortable and had absolutely everything we needed. The welcome hamper was very gratefully received, and we enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast on our first morning.

We went out and about every day and fished later in the day. The main lake was well stocked and between my husband and myself we landed roach, rudd, bream, perch, tench and carp, including some of good size. Some of the swims are quite tight and have overhanging branches but it just required us to take our time and we managed fine.

The hot tub was lovely and we used this several times during our stay. Plastic glasses are provided to safely enjoy a fizzy drink while in the tub!

We only met Sarah during her stay, on check-in and as we left. She was very welcoming and we knew we could ask her about anything if we needed.

I wouldn’t hesitate to re-book if we returned to the area.

Thank you x

Just back from our weekend away. From the first hello to the last goodbye everything was lovely. The lodge {woodpecker} was spotless and everything was thought of, even down to a box of matches for the tea lights. The welcome hamper was amazing and made a very tasty breakfast, champagne was chilling in the fridge and chocolates were on the beds, it was 1st class. The men really enjoyed the fishing while the women enjoyed the hot tub. Anyone who wants to get away, wether you are fishing or not, we cannot recommend this place enough. It was beautiful, it was quiet, it was perfect.

Thank you Will and Sarah we will definitely see you again {The Normans}

Oh ! And if you happen to stay in Woodpecker lodge, look out for the blue tits at the kitchen window 😊

Stunning, amazing, highly recommend.
The lodge is beautiful, furnished to a high standard with all the mod cons, Wi-Fi, dish washer even a funky shower that jets out the walls whilst music playing. The lodges all have hot tubs that are incredible clean with decking to the front overlooking the lake a great place to have breakfast from the complimentary hamper
We have stayed at many lodges on lakes and this is by far the best.

For those who like to fish there is plenty, carp up to 22lb ( I didn’t catch him ) but caught loads of commons and mirrors all over 10lb who put up a great fight, if it’s match fishing you like plenty of bream, tench and silver fish.

If fishing isn’t your thing there is plenty of wildlife about, the family of ducks who sat, slept and hand fed by us every day were so friendly, the resident king fisher said hello each day or you can just feed the fish with some bread.

The village ( 2 min drive away ) has a small shop, a chip shop and a pub that’s serves good food, or you can go to Bury town and cathedral grounds for a day out that has a decent street market on Saturdays.

Lastly how can I forgot Will and Sarah, they have done a fabulous job in making Badwell ash fishing lodges top draw, I would recommend this to anyone so thank you to them and look forward to booking again in the near future.

Sandra B asked a question Jan 2018
Hi , are you allowed pets?
Answer from Penelope T
Hi Sandra, I'm so sorry - I missed seeing your message so I apologise for this late response. I'm terribly sorry to disappoint you but I am afraid we are not able to accept guests' pets here on site. The reason for this is that we provide private fishing in our lakes here to our guests and we also have many wild and domestic waterfowl and other visiting or resident wild animals on the grounds. We are also conscious that other guests who stay in the lodges afterwards may have allergies. I'm sorry about that, but I hope we will still be able to welcome you to Badwell Ash some time. Kind regards, Penny
