Detailed Reviews
We have stayed at the Fairhaven many times over the years but this was our first stay with Pete and Sarah. From the beginning they were friendly and welcoming. We arrived an hour early but this wasn’t a problem even though they were relaxing in the garden with family. After showing us to our room which was spotlessly clean we were offered tea and homemade cake which was delicious. Both Pete and Sarah took the time to talk to us and were interested in the walks we had planned. Breakfast was amazing with plenty of choice and ‘daily specials’. We had a wonderful 4 night break and will definitely be back. Thank you so much Pete and Sarah.

We stayed at the Fairhaven in Goathland early September 2021 after being recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint. After parking in the large car park at the rear of the property we were welcomed by Peter to this beautiful guest house and we were instantly made to feel at home. Our bedroom for the first few nights was ensuite and was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated (my wife said most of the decor looked like it was Laura Ashley). The toilet / shower room was also finished to an extremely high standard and included a top quality MIRA shower. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water and biscuits were supplied in the room and were all good quality. Our last night we had to move rooms due to us booking late and availability. We were now in one of the Fairhavens superior rooms and again it didn't disappoint. This room was huge and like the other room was extremely clean and well maintained, but what made this room so wonderful was the amazing view we had from our window (see photo). Each morning we were treated to a lovely breakfast in one of the two lovely dining / sitting rooms. Breakfast consisted of the usual full English which was delicious but there was also a specials board which changed daily and had things like kippers and Ham & Eggs.
All in all thanks to Peter and Sarah we had a lovely stay at the Fairhaven and would highly recommend it to anyone. It really did feel like a home from home and we honestly can't wait to return.

We stayed in room number 4 which was clean, comfortable, spacious, bright and had a lovely view of the moors. The proprietors, Peter and Sarah, made us feel extremely welcome and had gone to a lot of trouble to make the guest house Covid compliant. Breakfast was delicious, standard full English made from local produce supplemented by a choice of two daily specials.

Wonderful to return to Fairhaven after Lockdown ! The welcome was, as ever, wonderful and the ‘Covid modifications that had been implemented gave confidence without detracting from the usual lovely experience. Cleanliness, quality food and thoughtfulness are the hallmark of a stay at Fairhaven, and both Pete and Sarah are always available to assist or make suggestions about places to visit in the area. A ‘home from home’ but with the added benefit of being waited on !

This is the second time we have stayed at Fairhaven, the first being before covid.
First of all, you’re always blown away by the beautiful and unspoiled views. Fairhaven has an amazing view from both the rooms we have stayed in, the lounge and the dining room. The rooms are spotless, the bed is unbelievably comfortable allowing for a great nights sleep. I’ve absolutely loved breakfast both times we’ve stayed here, always so fresh and tasty. The hosts cannot do enough for you and are always wanting to help and provide a great service. We saw Pete mostly on this visit and just as he was the first time we visited he was incredibly inviting and lovely to chat to. We will be returning soon!

What can I say... words cannot simply explain the outstanding stay we had at this place. It was surprise stay for my mums 50th. The hosts helped keep the whole thing a secret whilst accommodating all our requests and needs.
Throughout the trip and prior the hosts went above and beyond for us, helping with early check ins, putting decorations up, arranging and providing us with the most beautiful 3 course meal, adapting it to both my needs as a celiac and nut allergy sufferer and vegetarians. Getting special requests of alcohol in the list goes on.
I honestly do not have a bad word to say. If your looking for a homely trip away from home this is the place to go. Beautiful setting, accommodation, food and host. Oh and not to mention the gorgeous dog they have !!

Many thanks for this fantastic review Sam. It was a pleasure to help you and your family celebrate your mum's special birthday and we are so glad you all enjoyed it so much. We do enjoy these whole house bookings and the guesthouse does really lend itself to big social gatherings. Hopefully we'll see some of you again at Fairhaven in the future.

We just returned from another enjoyable trip to the North York Moors, using the Fairhaven Country Guest House as our base.
Goathland must be one of the quietest villages in the North York Moors, providing an excellent place to relax and unwind. Fairhaven itself is a large Edwardian house with a decent sized dining room and enormous guest lounge (which owners Pete and Sarah use well in the morning to socially distance diners).
The rooms themselves are very clean, with comfy beds, chairs, suitcase stands, well-equipped bathrooms (all en-suite except for one which has a personal bathroom a few steps away) and well-stocked hospitality tray.
Breakfasts are very tasty, being a good combination of flavours and textures, made using great local produce. The premises are licensed, so you can get a nice cold drink as you relax in their guest lounge after a day of exploring.
The proximity to a lot that the North York Moors offer makes the Fairhaven one of our two favourite place in the area. We'll certainly be back next year all being well.

Check in was the late time of 4pm, but thankfully we were told we could park around the back ahead of time to explore the village. Shoes off notice at the door, but nowhere to sit to do so. We were told to come down into the sitting room after we had settled in. When we came down another couple were there waiting. I can’t even remember what it was about, something about breakfast being only between 8.30-9, although they could accommodate different times if you asked. This “debriefing” really wasn’t necessary, everything you needed to know was in your room, and in the foyer, like pre ordering breakfast. We walked up to the Malayan Spout hotel the two nights we stayed here for evening meals. The shower was in a bath, so a potential tripping hazard when getting out, nothing to grab, also felt uneasy underfoot with creaking. The heating in the Fairhaven turned off around midnight and we woke up freezing and didn’t come back on until 7am. There was a heater, but it was useless and stopped working anyway. Letting rooms get cold is not acceptable for high price rooms, it also means the boiler has to work overtime to get the cold property back up to temperature, using more power/gas. Just leave it on a bit lower constantly, same difference. Curiously, the two open fires downstairs weren’t being used. Breakfast was good, the view magnificent. We would go back, but in summer, but there’s no chance you’d get into this village then!

Sarah and Peter made us very welcome from the minute we arrived.
The room was lovely and looked over on to the village with the North Yorkshire moors in the distance. Ideal location.
The guesthouse is spotless so you felt very comfortable and safe under the circumstances due to covid .
The breakfast is of high quality and lots to choose from.
Definitely recommend to all.
Hope to be back soon

Two aged bikers touring the Yorkshire Moors found this ‘biker friendly’ B&B advertised. Very reasonable rates (2 x single rooms) so we stayed here for two nights……could have been longer.
Goathland is home to ‘Heartbeat’ the tv series & the garage & pub are still there, very pretty part of the country. Steam railway stops at Goathland enroute to Whitby & Pickering, expensive but we’ll worth going on.
Greeted by Pete (think I called him Paul several times, sorry chap!) who showed us around. Stunning house, gorgeous views from the guests lounge & breakfast room.
Michelin star breakfast in the morning, daily breakfast ‘specials’ available as well, service impeccable, quality impeccable, everything absolutely top notch!
Pete is the perfect ‘mine host’ nothing is too much trouble. Would recommend Fairhaven to anyone who wishes to visit this part of Yorkshire.

We don't allow dogs in the guesthouse I'm afraid. Mill Croft House and the Inn on the Moor, both in the village, do however.
