Just come back from 3 nights stay here with my family and boyfriend. Owner was very friendly and helpful. Campsite had Toilets, showers, rubbish bins, fire pits, pizza stove and washing up area. Also had a shop on the campsite not sure what the official opening times for it were but would of been handy to be open in the mornings for little bits that you had ran out of/forgotten. Bikes needed if staying here as there isn’t much within walking distance but if you have a bike/car pubs/shops are easy to get to. Thank you for our stay!

The campsite is in a hidden away location, but with lots of facilities and walks nearby. We stayed in one of the bell tents in the woodland area a little away from the main area. Its lovely and secluded in the woods, further away from the facilities but not miles away. The tent is roomy and easily slept 2 adults and 2 tween children. The fire pit was great fun. if you have a dutch oven or iron cooking pot, take it. We made chilli and curries with it on the firepit which worked as a handy extra cooking facility. There is also a pizza oven onsite which is also great fun! The site is just on the edge of the Thornham Estate and there are great walking and cycling tracks on the doorstep as well as a nice little cafe on the estate. Diss and Eye are a short drive away. There is a great vegetarian pub ( The Walnut Tree) a few minutes drive away. The owners are very helpful and there is a small shop onsite for basic supplies. There are male and female shower blocks with fairly clean facilities cleaned twice a day. The kitchen area is closed off due to COVID and you book into the showers. Our main problem was at night, but we were, I think, very unlucky! There is a railway track very near the site, which others have mentioned, but the last train is at 11.00 which isnt too bad! However, they have been doing engineering works on the track for years. We had, for one horrendous night and a couple of hours subsequent nights, engineering works going on from about 2-4 am. There have been constant complaints according to the campsite owner, and they are not meant to be working more than one night every couple of months but have ignored this recently. Obviously there is nothing the campsite can do about this but the noise was horrific! We also had combine harvesting for a couple of nights until about midnight! I dont think the people on the main site heard this (although the whole of Norfolk must have heard the railway works!) Overall, I think we were just very unlucky. We had a great time and slept in when we had been kept up in the night!

Have been here twice this September, once with a group of friends and then again two weeks later with our children too. I would describe this as a “no frills” campsite so if you are used to immaculate facilities and permanently available staff, then bear in mind that it has a more relaxed feel. A quick phone call got hold of the owner when we wanted to buy more wood. Toilets and showers are clean and functional, and there’s a covered area for washing up. There is a communal kitchen area but we didn’t use this so can’t comment on it specifically.
There are drinking water points at convenient spots around the site and fire points too.
You can camp in the main field alongside the bell tents and glamping pods, or venture further into the site to camp in a smaller field or even right in the woods. Cars can be taken onto the main field for setting up but then you move the car to the adjoining car park.
You can borrow a cart or bring your own to help with moving your gear as the small field/woods are not accessible to cars.
There are sheep and chickens, owls, ducks, moorhens, muntjac deer and simply beautiful dark night skies.
Apart from the occasional train, this is quite a peaceful site but due to the trains and the wildlife I slept better with ear plugs in.
There are rope swings and good climbing trees which kept our young ones busy.
A half hour walk (from the gate on the far side of the main field) through fields and woods takes you to the tea rooms and play area at Thornham Walks which is highly recommended. Lunch at the Four Horseshoes was excellent.

The owners Jess and Phil are friendly and helpful hosts and make you feel really welcome at this stunningly beautiful and peaceful campsite. We were able to walk through the fields and woods to the wonderfully atmospheric Four Horseshoes for an unmissable meal. Great local walking opportunities. The local village is within walking distance. We really enjoyed that there was plenty of room between tents and we were encouraged to have a campfire. There was a well stocked campsite shop. Bathroom facilities were basic but adequate.

This place is idyllic! We were met on arrival by Jess who gave us all of the info we needed about the site and local area and showed us round. The toilets and showers were amazingly clean and there were excellent social distancing / covid strategies in place.

We were in a pixie hut which was spotless and roomier than you think. You’re provided with a sturdy picnic bench out the front as well as a couple of individual chairs, a fire pit and a cooking tripod. The fire pit was wonderful and we spent hours sat under the stars gently warmed by the glow of the fire. We could actually see the Milky Way with our naked eyes from the front of the hut.

As an added bonus the site had erected an open fronted marquee to the side of the pixie hut to still enjoy time outside even if it was raining, which we did as it did rain a fair bit!
There is a wonderful woodland at the back of the campsite you can wander, as well as a beautiful woodland walk to the Thornham café just 15 minutes away.

This was our first visit here, but certainly won’t be out last. There’s literally nothing I can suggest for an improvement!

My Husband and I have just arrived home from a long weekend camping in our own tent at Swattesfield. We had a really lovely time. It's a picturesque spot, right on the beautiful Thornton Walks, with a chilled and friendly vibe. having the freedom to pitch where we chose was a nice bonus- we very much enjoyed camping by the pond with the woodland as our backdrop, hanging out with the resident ducks and chickens and watching bats circle above us in the evening to the peaceful glow of our fire. Hot, powerful showers and clean facilities too. And even though the campsite was full on the Saturday night, it still felt lovely and spacious. When we ran out of the wood we had pre-ordered, we just asked the owners and they sold us more. Although the shop was not open, it was always easy to track down the owners. I saw someone else was buying gas canisters in the main field. Nearest Supermarkets were only 15 minutes drive away. I cannot recommend Swattesfield enough, undoubtedly, we will be back.

Cannot recommend this place enough. Loved it here. Peaceful and relaxed even during these COVID times. We were in the field by the pond in an empty bell tent that was already assembled on arrival so no having to put up or take down our own tent. Toilets and showers were in the neighbouring main field. The woodland area is beautiful and the kids enjoyed playing on the tire swing. It’s a short walk to Thornham Walks with a kids playground and lovely cafe. The Nearest pub is the lovely Four Horseshoes, again reachable through the fields (45 minute walk or short drive). Would definitely go back.

A beautiful campsite if you want to go back to real camping , No electric hook ups to have you placed in regimented camping spots. If you have your own tent you are free to camp in either of the fields or in the trees if you want to be really out of the way. For extra you can have a raised campfire and tripod to cook over the fire which we did every night, there are communal covered cooking and a wood fired pizza oven if you want to use as well.
All in all this was a great place to relax , unwind and enjoy getting back to nature .
you could hire bikes to go off and there is an estate close by to wander around or even bike.

Wonderful and friendly laid back reception. Pull your car up to the pixie hut to unload and then park up. By that time Jess had bought our firewood over and greeted us as old friends.
The hut is kooky and immaculately clean, the bed is comfy and is a beautiful place to sleep. There's also some nice undercover shelter structures to cook under or just site if the weather's bad.

The setting is just beautiful and well kept. You can hear owls as you sleep and if you're lucky a goats bleet in the morning.

There is a shop on site with everything you could ever need. The facilities block is immaculatly clean, the showers are hot and there is always a good supply of toilet roll and hand soap.

There's drinking water points around the site and a covered games area for the kids. (I say kids, I got obsessed with the table football).
Just a perfect stay, just what we needed.

Nice, spacious, clean site. Owner was incredibly helpful. Lots of local walks/parks and things to do. Toilets/showers we clean with a booking system In place to minimise the COVID risk.
A couple of people were moaning about the noise from the local train track work that happened one night however as far as I am concerned that is out of the owners hands. We had a great couple of nights definitely would come back.
