A nicely located ibis right next to a Toby Carvery. It looks like it has been recently newly renovated. The staff were relatively friendly but it was hard to catch anyone at reception to speak to. There was never any staff at the bar and we were put off ordering food as it looked like it was all completely shut down. The room itself looked very clean at a far away glance but the floor was absolutely vile. It had not been hoovered or mopped for a while as there were dust clumps, hair, tobacco and plastic bits all over the floor. The radiator had dried blood on it and the desk had a smear of blood on it with the last visitors room card left there. The desk chair had suspicious white marks on it so stayed clear away from that. The bathroom was a really good size and the shower was clean and roomy. I know that were trying to save the planet but the fact that the last visitors half used toilet roll was left for us to use during covid times was disgusting and it went straight in the bin. There were hairs on the seat and what id say was dried vomit on the outside of the bowl. I always take cleaning products with me to hotels and anywhere i stay because of things like this as i am a germaphobe and had to wipe/disinfect the floor and clean the surfaces myself to feel safe on our stay. Other than the dirty floor and surfaces it was a pleasant stay, the beds were extremely comfortable and the pillows were lovely too. The blackout curtains were so good and the rooms were very cool throughout the heatwave. We were kept up until early hours because of 2-3 groups of friends/families staying at the Ibis who sat out the front of the hotel drinking being very loud and rowdy aswell as people and kids running about at all hours slamming the heavy doors. When asked to be a little quieter by another guest they laughed and told them to mind their business and go to bed. The Ibis staff did not do anything about the loudness of those groups which they should have seeing as other people are paying to SLEEP there. If you’re not bothered about germs or are a deep sleeper this is the place for you. Take cash with you as the local cabs only take cash not card and its near impossible to get an Uber there. Definitely recommend giving the market a look around in town too, some lovely stalls&food there.

The good points are it was clean and tidy and easily accessible from the M1 . But unfortunately there was more negative things to say .
1. There was no do not disturb signs available for your door, so if your working nights and sleeping here through the day you can expect to be woken by the maids every morning knocking on your door to see if you want your room cleaned.
2. The fried breakfast was not very good , however they’ll probably say that’s the best they could manage due to covid 19 restrictions.
3. They offer a burger with a free pint at a cost of £13, the burger is no better than a £1 microwave cheese burger I’ve bought from Aldi and the pint was actually a bottle of beer.

Additionally we do have signage at reception in respect of requests. Several of our guests were Night Workers and our team members were duly advised. Stayed here just as they where closed due to COVID. The hotel was open for front line workers then closed a week for a clean.
Staff where very friendly cannot complain about them.
The rooms weren’t very clean specially under the bed there was bits of white plastic and dust.
We had a very bad leak on our sink. Told them they said sorry no one is allowed in your room until 24 hrs after we leave. So had to put a bin there and towels down.
We had no cups tea and coffee and mineral water as stated,we had to ask at the reception.
We was only allowed one of each Even tho there was two of us and staying 4 nights. (Budgens supermarket on the roundabout) was handy.
Rooms weren’t cleaned or bins emptied at all on our stay and if we wanted cleaned towels or toilet roll we had to go to reception.
Breakfast was croissant. yogurt. Tiny muffin and a juice. Some mornings we had a jam to go with the croissant. All in a paper bag which we had to collect ourselves from the reception.
The handiest thing is a Toby carvary in the same carpark

If I had written this review on the first night of my stay they may have received a 3* review but after my experience this morning that has well and truly changed. The reasons are listed below:

1. The first room I was assigned was dirty and had clearly not been turned over. I have noted that their COVID policy states rooms are left empty for 72hrs between guests but I highly doubt this is the case as one member of staff said ‘The system isn’t updating which rooms have been cleaned today’

2. The replacement room that I was given has multiple problems. The door guard is broken and the actually lock on the door is so stiff it is unusable. 4 out of 5 of the wall sockets do not work and the room is so hot it is insufferable. I also do not have a do not disturb sign so no doubt I will get interrupted today whilst trying to work.

3. The free mineral water advertised on their website does not exist so you are forced to use the bar to get a drink - of course the prices are extortionate!

4. Everywhere I have looked, including this site advertise that breakfast is included in the price of the room. I would not have booked the room if this was not the case. However this morning whilst waiting to be seated I was told I must pay £5 for breakfast! Needless to say I was disgusted at this.

The staff themselves have been friendly enough but when it comes to complaints they are useless and just say there is nothing they can do.

Stayed here a few times and I have a future booking too.
Waited over 30 minutes to order food and another 30 minutes for it to arrive. Not short staffed, they just didn't except it to be so busy??!!
My room was clean and tidy but more of an inconvenience that 3 plug sockets I tried didn't work 2 either side of the bed and opposite, neither did the 2 hairdryers that were provided.
Breakfast I arrived at 6:40am the orange juice machine wasn't switched on, and when i mentioned it to staff it seemed more of an inconvenience me letting her know this. The sausages were that over cooked it had nothing inside, normally a decent breakfast for the price.

I'm really sorry that you had so many issues during your stay with us this time. Our staff are available 24 hours to address any issues that you may have during your stay. In respect of the electrical issues with your room you don't say if this was attended by a Team Member at the time to possibly reset the trip mechanism, if indeed that was the issue. I also apologise that breakfast wasn't to our normal standard. Thank you for making a future booking and look forward to welcomimg you back again. Kind regards Diane

On arrival we were greeted by a gentleman who was rather brash in his manner. Told me breakfast would be £7.50 for each, but if we waited until the morning to decide it would be £9.50, I questioned seeing at £5 pp but he just said no. We declined as breakfast can be purchased much cheaper.

We entered our ‘family’ room, no room to move, we have stayed previously so are aware the family rooms are usually more spacious. We were lead to believe this was a double room due to the fact there were no spare pillows, only 2 bath towels and only two cups for 4 of us! Reception ignored this comment when we questioned the following morning and just told us they would put more pillows and towels in our room whilst out. On our return this had not happened and we then also noticed the window latch was broken. Reception again informed us maintenance would be round to fix, did not see them before we checked out.

Sadly no one was available when we were leaving to even speak to.
Very disappointed, previous trips have been okay prior to covid.

Myself and family stayed in room 235 which is a twin room. The room is situated at the front of the hotel above the smoking area. We could not sleep because the room was too warm but every time we opened the window you could hear people gathered in the smoking area talking very loudly so we promptly have to close it again. Only a single pillow was supplied in the rooms where I am used to to at least 2. There is a TV and tea and coffee making facilities
My main area of complaint was the food. We had booked this hotel through a national holiday trip and expected good food as always. We were ushered to tables after waiting 10 minutes at a sign which said wait to be seated one of the reception staff was just telling everyone else to sit down so we followed.
We were sat for about half an hour before any service arrived and the food was absolutely abysmal. For starters i had a single vegetable samosa type thing which was delicious but Gone in Sixty Seconds. The main meal I had chicken and rice where was advertised with with poppadoms. I had one small small poppadom which was smaller than a crisp however I was looking forward to the pudding which was jam roly-poly and custard. The custard tasted burnt and everyone in our group sent theirs back.
My daughter send her pudding back and asked for a second serving which was exactly the same so just left it.We all wish we had gone to the Toby Carvery across the road which would have been far nicer
The staff did apologise that they were short staffed with several coach parties attending and I'm sure they they did their best because when the food did arrive plates were promptly taken away as expected.
However the quality of the food and the cooking let the meal down. It's unlikely I will return unless I go on another national holiday but will definitely attend the Toby Carvery instead

Stayed with my partner and 4 year old for one night. Room contained a double bed and a sofa bed, though bed may be stretching this definition somewhat as it's sheer discomfort made any sleep an impossible task. Given this was supposed to be a family friendly room there were a few issues; the height of the toilet and sink in the bathroom made it potentially hazardous. Neither could be accessed independently by my child as both were too high and having to lift him each time to the edge of a glass sink wasn't the safest. A simple step being provided in a family room might have resolved this? The fluctuation in water temperature and pressure when trying to shower my child was also potentially dangerous as it would go from acceptable to boiling in an instant.
The level of cleanliness was not what I would normally expect ( a former resident had kindly left a Wotsit or two under the sofa bed... something that would have been easily seen by whoever was setting up and making the bed and therefore, I can only assume, ignored.) one other aspect that may have been appreciated would have been a simple teaspoon or wooden stirrer, just so we would have a way to remove a teabag from our cup with our having to scald our fingers or wait for a lukewarm beverage.
The breakfast was pretty standard, a small comfort following a sleepless night though again the level of cleanliness was not great; having to go through a crate of cups to find a clean one shouldn't be necessary.
So sorry Ibis, you are somewhat 'Styles' over substance; it's more important to get the basics right. I would think twice about choosing an Ibis again.

After a number of day trips to Barnsley we decided to start staying over for weekends while we. were working on a project. The hotel is perfectly placed just off J37 of M1 and also less than 15 mins from property we were working at!
The staff we came across during our many stay overs became more like friends than staff, especially the two Holly's and Mable on front desk but also the Kitchen staff when bringing out the 'must have' cooked breakfast which really set us up for the mornings physical work!!
They even took the trouble to put in a chair in our room when asked for to enable easier working instead of the usual stool, very grateful :-) thanks
We would certainly recommend a stay there and will be booking in again when we come back for our next project!!
Very kind Regards
Andy & Rebecca

When i was in the restaurant downstairs there was no staff anywhere and then when staff did arrive they didnt serve me. I had to seek our someone to take my order. Then the food come which was over priced i paid £2.75 for a portion of chips and had 7 chips. The pannin i ordered wasnt melted and looked like it was under for 30 seconds. Then in the evning at 11pm i tried to get a glass of cola and they said the bar was closed. They serve food 24/7 but not a glass of pop which makes no sence. I wont be staying here again. Not only for these reasons but the bed was very hard and i couldnt sleep. Very underwhelming stay one of the worst expwriances in a hotel for me.
